Three new champions in the UFC! First, Joanna Jędrzejczyk, who had held the belt for 966 days (which was the second-longest active reign), lost her first career fight to Rose Namajunas in the first round; Namajunas became just the third Women's Strawweight Champion. Then, TJ Dillashaw made good on his Bantamweight Championship rematch, defeating former teammate Cody Garbrandt by KO in the second round and handing Garbrandt his first career loss in the process. Finally, Georges St. Pierre came back from a four-year retirement to defeat Michael Bisping by submission in the third round, becoming the Middleweight Champion. St. Pierre becomes the fourth UFC fighter to hold titles in two divisions.

Shohei Otani decided he didn't want to come to New York and join the Yankees, as well as a myriad of other teams. I think when all is said and done, he will join the Mariners in Seattle due to their Japanese ties. I also believe that means the Mariners bring in Ichiro once more. He could also go to LA or the Rangers, but I do believe it'll be Seattle. It's a shame, he could have won a title in New York and now he definitely wont.

Will be seriously excited if he comes to Seattle.

I'm not sure if anybody follows college football around here, but if you do, there has been plenty of controversy about it's playoff system four years in. For those following, what do you think about it? I've seen a lot of discussion around the web about moving from 4->8 teams, as well as the issue with the G5 schools.

Stupid question... Why is this in spam and not The sports thread. Really that's all I had to say since I don't follow College Football... In the event this ends up getting merged with the Sports thread... damn... now I have to say something on topic...

8.
5 P5 champions + 1 G5 champion + 2 at large.
No arguments. No deserving teams left out.

Bama sucks. We shouldve clobbered Iowa obviously but Ohio St beat Wisconsin, Penn St, and Michigan St who were all ranked in the top 12 at the time and in the top 15 still IIRC...Bama’s best win was a LSU team THAT LOST TO F**KIN TROY.
The fact of the matter is that there’s such a Bama bias with the committee it’s ridiculous. If Arkansas puts up that same season, no way in hell they get in. But because of their name they get in. And I know the same thing happened with us last yr where Penn St people hated ohio st getting in, but this is so different it’s ridiculous.
Fact of the matter is that Clemson has really surprised me in the last 3 weeks. They’re hands down the best team in football, and I quite honestly see Clemson beating Bama by at least 3 touchdowns...Oklahoma has no defense (Ohio St scored 16 on them when JT Barrett was basically drunk and they didn’t run the ball at all) and hasn’t played a quality defense since that game over 3 months ago. Clemson will win the national championship.
As for the format, 8 teams is the way to go. You set up 4 of the New Years Six Games as Quarterfinals, the other 2 as semifinals, and championship game. Boom. It’s so simple and I’m so on board with 8 teams.
Also, on the flip side, I don’t have to be in total agony watch JT Barrett play QB against Clemson again...so tbh I’m not as bitter as I sound, I think we’ll easily beat USC, have a quality 12-2 season, and go on next year with Haskins and Dobbyns (who honestly will win the heisman before he’s out of here) and win the natty...at least that’s what I hope and pray for lol

To play devil's advocate, what are y'all's thoughts when these points are raised against an 8 team playoff?
1] Expanding the playoffs lessens the emphasis on the regular season (and in some cases conference championship games). 2] Teams that win their conference and receive an auto-bid, yet have an 8-5 or 9-4 record don't belong. 3] Some years there isn't really a "deserving" fourth team (example this year is Bama & Ohio State) so how do you justify expansion to 8?
Also ftr, I have a pretty unconventional opinion about this, but I have been reading a lot of debate about 4 v 8, and the status of the G5 so I'm chiefly interested in hearing opinions for and against both sides.

The Leafs first ever game happened 100 years ago, December 19th, 1917, as the Torontos. 100 years later, the Leafs played a game at 2pm, and destroyed the Hurricanes 8-1!

If there's one thing I learned about the Golden Knights entire season, it just made the entire las vegas community becomes golden knights fans. No matter where I am, I will always see a jersey or a cap, and before that, there were Kings caps.
You got the entire Las Vegas community saying their going to the Stanley Cup, I know I probably made a post that the golden knights are probably going/winning the stanley cup, but either i'm somewhat stupid right, or i'm stupid crazy, either way, their first season is impressive, and i can't wait to see where their heading.
