I can see both sides of the argument and why the EXACT same thing is happening in Japan. Some are saying "it was meh.. let's wait for Morimoto to return" while others are "where is Sasuke and what have you done with my show?". This topic was a HUGE one among the vets at the Midoriyama parking lot. Mika, Shingo, Nagano, Akiyama and Bunpei. We all said the same thing. This show is not the same one. Nagano in particular we had a lot of conversation with on the subject. He doesn't hate the show but he says it's not the same. I've been agreeing with it and even posted it when 28 came back. The shift to reboot the franchise after lagging ratings has not been smooth. This hard shift after this particular renewal has been stark especially since the results and happenings of the tournament were not adequately shown. I honestly have no idea what I saw on TV. It certainly wasn't the show I saw in person.

I honestly have no idea what I saw on TV. It certainly wasn't the show I saw in person. Partway through the broadcast I felt like I was watching a celebrity episode of Total Wipeout...not SASUKE... because you've got Darvish and that ABC-Z guy among other shenanigans...it was a total shambles.

I really have nothing valuable to add except echoing what has been said; the fact that SASUKE has lasted this long is impressive and everything that has been around as long as this show will have its bad (or less good, I really didn't think 32 could be called bad) days. I totally understand why some people didn't like 32. My question is, why are you certain it won't get better?
To me the biggest appeal of SASUKE is the competitors. If there was a tournament where all of the competitors were first-timers I don't know if I'd enjoy it so much. But if the show gets cancelled a lot of these people are losing a huge part of their lives and a big passion.
If it were me deciding, I definitely wouldn't cancel SASUKE yet. It will never be a massive, million-dollar phenomenon but it has heart. If it can hang in there, who's to say the show won't be back to its 'best' (whatever you think it's best was) in a few years?
However, I know nothing about the financial side so that may be a deciding factor.

I don't know did marsllama point the question to me but i'll still answer it.
I didn't say it won't never ever get better, but i have multiple reasons to be pessimistic on this case and so have some others too. The fact that it's been downhill since 27th tournament tells it all. Five SASUKE's and only handful moments to be positive about, yet 27th tournament had itself even more moments that i still watch sometimes. Was it because 27th was a good tournament? No, all of them (1-27) were better than last 5 SASUKE's. My point is that now, when SASUKE is (once again) on thin ice, first time ever i do wish that it would get canceled. It's just my personal opinion and i have already told multiple reasons why. There is no need to be rude, if someone thinks otherwise.

I wonder if people realize that this is a reaction thread to the domestic response, if we were sharing our own opinions as international viewers, there's already a thread on that

I am not taking calls in Japan to cancel the show too seriously. In SASUKE's golden days there are a lot more calls to stop the show. There was even some angry post like "This (SSK 8-10) is not SASUKE anymore... wtf is this show about? This should've been called YAMADA. Cancel it now!!" If anything I hate having too many all cuts. I guess having someone like Hatsuda (announcer), who used to be like a standup comedian in his prime, made a lot of random auditioned competitors memorable (I still remember the regular Superman guy, Superman push-up guy in 27, white socks guy, sunburn guy, flamenco guy, Bruce Lee guy, a salaryman who competed wearing a suit, transgenders, footbag priest, Indian "Ganga on the face" student, etc, etc). Since somewhere in M9 era Sasuke has been struggling to find a new blood of humorous announcers. This (announcers aren't so good) has actually been criticized among casual watchers. I love the decision and the production's passion to invite people to watch the game since 31 though, as it is making up the announcers being ok but not so awesome - audience reaction makes the show really energetic and lively, especially in latter stages.
