When Nagano grabbed the net, it broke, according to some people around here. David says it didn't; Nagano's grip just slipped. Since the videos and pictures are very hard to make out, I'm going to believe David. He was there, after all.

The screenshot being used as evidence is from a camera angle that had bad lighting. If you watch 4 seconds earlier, it's pretty clear that no rope broke.

I saw the picture used as evidence and according to that picture, half of rope snapped at once... Nagano simply didn't make it.

I have a slowed down video that shows yes in deed the rope snapped.

All angles have pretty poor lighting, making it difficult to see even during the replays.
I'm going to say that it didn't snap, Nagano didn't have proper form anyway to beat the obstacle. It's like trying to do the Jump Hang with one arm, it just doesn't happen.

I have a slowed down video that shows yes in deed the rope snapped. I was skeptical but this video is actually fairly convincing. You can see two halves of rope fall down to the sides. It's not like he would have held on with one or two fingers anyway.

Guys. How much do you think Nagano weighs? Can you ever remember a net from the jump hang ever breaking in any previous tournament?

Can you ever remember a net from the jump hang ever breaking in any previous tournament? Seriously. You'd think Sasuke would master how to construct a net after a million tournaments with them. I'm going with the actual people that were there...

Guys. How much do you think Nagano weighs? Can you ever remember a net from the jump hang ever breaking in any previous tournament? His site says 62㎏ . No clue how much that is because I don't know metric. And I think it might have happened once in a fast forward but I may be wrong.

kg to pound conversion: 62kg = 137lbs (rounded up)

I can't believe I'm getting into this debate.
You can't come to a conclusion from the replays, the way the camera angle+compression white-washes the whole rope makes it impossible to see.
Honestly, the first time you see it (e.g. the aired version of the actual run), if you look at where he grabs, then slips, the rope is still there fully intact, after he's slipped.

I can also support that. Notice after he lets go, it's not just the rope he was holding onto that kind of disappears, it's all of them from a combination of the sun and moving camera. There was nothing in Nagano's hand during the fall.

Yea, bottom line, it doesn't matter if the net broke or not, why? Because Nagano had poor form on the obstacle much like he did on the Flying Chute in 19. You are not going to pass the Slider Jump like that.

The second slow-motion replay is clearer - the rope didn't break.

I was able to slow it down frame by frame. I can say with 100% certainly it did not break.

Hopefully this is the last time I'll have to address this heh! I was standing about 10 feet from the water that Nagano fell into after falling from the Slider Jump. I have seen the video that some of you mention where it looks like the rope broke, but it is simply an optical illusion. The moment that Nagano slips off the rope his downward speed increases and as the camera pans faster to keep up with him it blurs all the horizontal ropes to the point they become invisible. When Nagano is holding onto the rope, the rope is bent into a slightly verticle angle making it more visable. The moment it slips from his hand and bounces back to horizintal it becomes obcures by the motion blur and this is why it disappears at the exact moment it slips from his hand. As I said before I was standing right there and saw him simply slip off the rope. If the rope had broken it would have been obvious due to hanging pieces of broken rope, there would have been a big fuss, and he would have done his run over I assume. After Nagano's run the crew went right over to stage 2, they did not reset or repair any part of stage 1 (because Nagano was the last competitor). After everyone cleared stage 1 I went over and took photos of several obstacles including the Slider Jump for informational purposes as it regards to building replicas. Here are two photos I took of the net, notice there are no broken ropes.
