Hand Bridge is awesome. Of course I see the inspiration from the Drum Hopper, and I think that's the best way to take this obstacle on (hopping as opposed to walking). I would almost even add a sloped portion but if they chose it they might modify it. Great job! For the Swirl Unwind, do you have any clue how that will be built (materials, etc)? Is it going to be a bunch of bar segments jointed together or like a flat stiff tape-like material. It seems like it would be super tricky to build and super hard to reset. But regarding the idea, I really really like it. I think you have a better shot with Hand Bridge. I'll be rooting for you! Thanks for the quick feedback! I actually thought of the Hand Bridge obstacle years before the Drum Hopper debuted. I was also considering a sloped portion on it, but felt like they could always modify it that way if they thought it would work better. In any case, I'll definitely make sure to submit the Hand Bridge this year. As for the Swirl Unwind, I was thinking it would be made with metal bars being connected using some sort of plastic tubes at the joints, with it being held up at several parts by wires and a metal frame (not 100% sure how it would be done, but I did my best to illustrate it). I feel it would be similar to reset in comparison to the Rumbling Dice, which is where I got the inspiration for the obstacle in the first place. I honestly think it's still one of the more creative yet feasible obstacle ideas I'm come up with, and I figure there's nothing for me to lose in making it my other submission for this year. By the way, I do like the name "Chameleon Tail" a lot more than Swirl Unwind---would you and @donalm be okay with me using that name instead?

Ummm...how in the world would this not be broken. We've discussed before that a rolling escargot with a drop wouldn't work and this seems very similar designwise

Should we make a new thread for the 2017 Obstacle Design Challenge?

Should we make a new thread for the 2017 Obstacle Design Challenge? I was just about to suggest that.

I think the wingnuts from daytona (I think that's where they were put) were the official winner but they did use some other ideas. Hey, Kevin Carbone here, I actually did not "win" with the Wingnuts. The obstacle that won, and got the flights and hotel was Crank it Up in Kanas City. I got nothing. I say, if they use an obstacle from the contest than that person should get to fly out and see their design. But the One winner thing, seems to be a pretty common theme for ninja.. cough cough issac caldiero geoff britten..

Thanks for the clarification (even though the series did that, I posted before airing began). There was a small bit of confusion at the time since you were present and competed in that region, wasn't really common knowledge at the time you walked on, appreciated that you came to SMF and clarified though.

This thread is very dead, but just thought I'd ask; what were all the winners of the contest?

This thread is very dead, but just thought I'd ask; what were all the winners of the contest? Only official one mentioned on the episodes so far was Ciaran Gault for Slippery Summit.

or, you know, they haven't.

Ok but imagine the Wingnuts attached to a longer pole that swings, making gaps shorter but momentum harder to gain. I call it "The Swingnuts" and nobody can steal it from me.
