Yea, I just really, really, really don't get this one from NBC. David is an OG, brings a LOT of ratings, has a fantastic track record (yes, he's failed in Vegas but he's dominated everything else), has inspired the next generation of ninjas, has a nickname, and they even used him in their season 8 promo for crying out loud!! As much as I disagree with how NBC handles things, this is a new low. Watch him get to walk on in OKC, crush the course, crush Vegas, then NBC will play it all off like he wasn't even in the walk on line because they don't want to make it look like they made a mistake (and because he's still a friggin FAN FAVORITE THAT BRINGS RATINGS!). Does he really bring in the ratings, though? That's the thing. Don't get me wrong, what happened to David is a shame, and he definitely deserved better. HOWEVER, from the point of view of an executive, they probably just saw him as a guy that had failed in Vegas Stage 1 four years in a row. They probably thought he had been played out, and was in danger of going into Orosco territory, since the idea of a "season of redemption" happened...2 to 3 years before ANW7. Now, again, I completely disagree with the executives, and think they probably put too much focus on results and not enough on fan following, especially after a (should have been) double victory. A mistake? Yes. By Jove, was it a big mistake. However, I can see how the mistake happened, and am (naively) hopeful that the mistake will be avoided in the future. I'm not the ratings expert, but I really think he gets WAY more ratings than the Joe-Nobody's they're taking instead of him. Just look at how fast he raised $1500 to fund his walk-on efforts. You're telling me he doesn't have fans?? I just don't understand I guess. I mean, yeah, all NBC cares about is ratings.. period. I get that. But he does bring ratings. At least I thought he did. So ya, I don't understand. The ONLY explanation I have is that most ANW viewers have only a 1-2 season memory. I.e. 90% of them don't care, or even know, what people accomplished in ANW5 or earlier. And god forbid NBC gives the viewers any sort of history lesson. Do they even mention what season it is these days? (Compared to Sasuke, which stamps the tournament number on pretty much every promo, graphic, etc.) How do casual viewers know any context of what they're watching, or how the current episode (on whatever outlet) fits in to the grand scheme of things? Do they even care? Idk. Like, why doesn't NBC show stock footage of David's home courses? Or how he was the first American (the first person?) to clear the UCH ever. These things would help viewers build emotional attachments to him, which would increase ratings. I don't get it. I'm ranting now. Sorry. God I hate NBC.

He's lost the first stage 4 times in a row, which is almost as many times as he's competed. Time for some fresh faces. I don't know what he means by godfather, but he's not and should stop calling himself that, whatever he means by that. He is named the GODFATHER for his dedication and he is one of the most determined competitors in the pool. That title will never fade away from him win or lose.

David is one of the nicest guys in the ANW community and has really helped to elevate training to what it is today - buildings obstacles especially - and you have some serious balls to talk so much s*** about David when he is on this forum and will read this at some point

Listen we all know the qualifications about not being an expert in all these things. But I do know about the sting of being dropped from the show while being one of the original competitors from all the way back to the very first ANC. I know that they are done with my story and want to move onto other things even though I am still training and winning events. The biggest problem is that now for every thing a person does there is a dozen more out there doing the same. We have all seen the clips of the back woods Cali course, but that's just it we have all seen it. There are also just tons of people out building things, things that are now also being used on the show (e.g. the skywaker). There is tons of people with new fresh footage they got to make room. Two years ago there was about 7 or 8 people that have been on every season. I never thought it would that crazy to just let the 7-8 spots be filled forever by those that have always wanted it. But here we are... Also as a little addendum I think they also want to have new winners, while giving new people a shot is nice if the same top veterans keep winning also those other people will never get featured and that is what I think the show wants. (I may be a little full of my self for this, but....) If I finish top 15 then I knock someone out every year, they may be sick of putting my face up without anything new to talk about in my personal life.
OK, but to my point, the idea that David is as popular as Joe seems crazy, I am talking about nothing more than just popularity. Joe may not have the history or any of the qualifications this thread seems worthy but again this is not anything but a tv show. Joe will go to every tv event, post endlessly about the show and he has over 10,000 twitter 23,100 Instagram followers to send them to, all while David has 1,300 in both. Going back to the time that they both were featured City final finishers ANW6 those videos on you tube Joe=296k views, David=82k views. So while this forum may have more love for David than Joe I think it may be easy to say from a TV producer standpoint Joe is more popular and better for ratings/ webviews/ social media buzz.

That is not at all the definition of a godfather. You should look it up in a dictionary. According to Google, the dictionary definition of a godfather (after the obvious one of "a male godparent") is "a man who is influential or pioneering in a movement or organization", which most certainly applies to David Campbell. Personally, I don't care whether David goes out on stage 1 ten seasons in a row (and he won't), I'd take him over Messrs Caldiero and Moravsky any day.

He failed to qualify for Mt. Midoriyama in season 1 and has failed the first stage 4 times in a row. Godfather my a**. I would pwn him if I were to compete as many times as him.

Wrong. 1. a man who serves as sponsor for a child at baptism. 2. any male sponsor or guardian. 3. (often initial capital letter) a powerful leader, especially of the Mafia. 4. a person who is regarded as the originator or principal shaper of a movement, school of thought, art form, industry, or the like: www.dictionary.com/browse/godfather?s=t

Interesting perspective. I know NBC has done a huge shake up this year on invites just about purging a lot of the vets. David just happened to be one of them this year. With each year increasing in entries it's impossible to keep everyone. Casting is hard. If they allow someone with a long history on there some will b****. If they take them out some will b****. Frankly it's a no win situation. Ultimately if David competes (now that the fundraiser was successful) and he does well I'm sure NBC will bring it to everyone's attention and he will stay on for years to come. He along with others from the vets side had to go back to the drawing board since the popularity has waned of late. Hardcores know who he is it's the casuals that NBC is going after. NBC controls all of those images. For the record, NBC named him the Godfather. Doesn't matter what the definition is. Personally why you named David and Shingo the same name never made sense to me but half of what NBC does doesn't make sense to me. Arguing definitions is pointless. NBC named him that and no one named has ever lost it. Even Yamada being Mr. Sasuke even though he's banned from competing in Sasuke. He's Mr. Sasuke forever so David is the Godfather forever.. so is Shingo Yamamoto.

David Campell fits definition 4 How is he an originator and principal shaper? Definition 4 is only used in informal occasions, it usually defines someone who serves as a sponsor for a child at baptism or a powerful leader, especially of the Mafia. In terms of American originators, that title would either go to Kane Kosugi, Travis Schroeder, Levi Meuwenberg or Brian Orosco.

There is a simple solution of what to do about posts by Fathead/Achiereot Report if necessary, he's obviously a troll trying to bait people, and technically his posts can be seen as flaming another member since he is talking s*** about davidcampbell so definitely shouldn't be taken seriously, let the staff handle it, don't respond since I'm sure attention is what he wants. So overall... (BTW don't let the use of memes fool you, this is a 100% serious post)
