I'll address the cheering thing. I believe Levi was genuinely disappointed when I timed out, but it WAS clear by the time I was swinging that I was going to time out. Also Levi and I did get along quite well and he even invited my to the TKPK jam the day after Sasuke (which I attended). I think that Levi and Brian were a bit closer, simply because Levi had been sent to Japan 2x with Brian and Brian was very much into parkour so they could probably relate to each other easily.
And of course there is the fact that Brian was just on the edge of the time limit, which is exciting. So of course Levi's going to be a little more animated in Brian's run, but I did not feel any lack of support from him.

Poor Olivia looked like she was going to cry when I timed out!

Poor Olivia looked like she was going to cry then I timed out! During the circle hammer, I disliked how Olivia told you to take your time, which seemed to be how you were DQ'd. Did her words stick with you at all, or maybe it was just your doing to rest a lot. I thought you were going fast through your run though, it was just the pause before the slider jump that really made me bite my nails.

Yeah, I was noticing two fatal errors, The trampoline test and then resting (its either and/or, not both) and the long rest before the Slider Jump. Those two things were what set in stone you were going to time up.

Well don't forget to notice that David didn't fail any of the stage 1 obstacles, a good sense of caution.

Heh, no Olivia saying "take your time" didn't affect my run. There were a few factors that did.
Of course the 2 big pauses, the trampoline and the Slider Jump. After watching the footage I estimate that I used about 6 seconds testing the tramp(and I was only 5 seconds short of passing stage 1 arrrg!). I felt it was necessary because I needed to get a feel for how fast the trampoline would rebound after I hit it. But it did help me land the Spider Jump, so I can't say that I regret it. I found out later that there was a trampoline set up in the parking lot that I could have been practicing on! Probably would have helped Luci too! But nobody told us about it, so too late now, oh well!
Before I address the pause before the Slider Jump, let me talk about the other factors.
There are a lot of terrain changes like 4 foot steps you have to jump up to, and general distance you must traverse between the obstacles. It is a bit shocking how fast that kind of activity drives you to exhaustion compared to simply running for 2 minutes!
Also as I have previously mentioned, the air in Tokyo is horrible and they were having dust storms in the area (many times when I was outdoors in Tokyo I could taste dirt in my mouth).
Combine those 2 things with the fact that I stupidly forgot to warm-up, and the result was that by the time I got to the top of the Slider Jump I was having difficulty breathing. I felt that in the state I was in, there was no way I would be able to exert the energy needed to kip off the bar and grab the net. I knew I was running out of time but I really needed to take a couple breaths. And it did help of course, I was able to hang on to the net!
So there were a few things that seemed to be working against me as far as time goes. But I'm happy with my run. Heck, I did better than 95% of the competitors including all the all stars, so I can't really complain!
I'm working hard on my cardio and my speed though, so if I go back I'll fly through the s***!
I have to say something though about the changes to stage 1 and the time limit. Watch Lee En Chi's run from Sasuke 21. Check his time at the top of the warped wall and then check my time from 22 in the same location. I'm actually 1/2 second ahead of his time! If all I had to do was a simple Chute to rope grab and tarzan I totally would have passed stage 1! (also I wouldn't have needed to pause so much before the Chute as I did the Slider Jump).
The Slider Jump is much more time consuming than the Chute was, but they did not alter the time limit to reflect this. This is evident by the drastic differences in time remaining at the end of stage 1 from Sasuke 21 to 22.
I'd also like to mention how the last time they added new obstacles to stage 1 (Sasuke 18), they raised the time limit to 130 seconds. They lowered it to 120 in Sasuke 19 after people got used to the new course. But then for 22 made the course slightly longer and significantly harder without changing the time. I personally feel this was a mistake, but I can't say it wasn't fair, so I accept it and just train that much harder!
Oh by the way, I was scoping out a local elementary school jungle gym today, and I found a place to preactice the Slider Jump until I build my replica! (it's basically some inclined monkey bars that I can lay I pipe across and slide down)

Just a minor Note David the time limit in 19 was 115 seconds they moved it to 120 from sasuke 20 onwards.

In that same vein, it wouldn't be unthinkable that the time limit be raised to 125 seconds next tournament to ease up on the time-outs juuuust a little.

Personally, I like the time as it is. Yes it is challenging, but at least now people aren't walking through the First Stage just to finish with a few seconds left (see Sasuke 21). Plus, how many time outs were there on the Rope Ladder, 5? Same number of clears. The First Stage now is a lot more exciting and requires a lot more speed than the previous First Stages.
