Hitoshi Kanno made what is perhaps the greatest debut in Sasuke history. What do you think? Does it beat Jordan Jovtchev's epic recovery in the first stage of Sasuke 8 to go all the way to the final?

Just to add a bit more information about Kanno:
He goes to the same university as Shunsuke Nagasaki - he's a few years older than Shunsuke. No information on whether they know each other well or not. (And for what it's worth, Shunsuke expresses a desire to compete in SASUKE again.)
And for a debut...I think it's more memorable than Jovtchev's mainly because he was going somewhere only one other person had gotten to before him.

I think if Nagasaki comes back, you will see TBS promoting a new group of all-stars. I hope it doesn't happen though.

i think Kanno's is better, he got to a point that only 2 people reached(aside from him) so far.

Jovtchev got to a point only one person (Shingo) had reached before, although Kane reached it just after him. I can't really decide. On the one hand, the old course was much easier and the third stage was due for a renovation anyway; it was upgraded the very next tournament. On the other hand, I doubt Jovtchev had really trained for Sasuke. He got to the final stage on his natural ability.

You also have to remember that when Jovtchev ran the course for the first time, it was raining. Everything was wet and he still made it to the final stage.

I vote for Kanno considering that first timers clearing the First and Second Stages was a lot more common back in the earlier years than it is nowadays. Jovtchev did have to deal with a tough course (thanks to the rain) but he never had to deal with the Salmon Ladder or the Shin-Cliff Hanger in his debut. And I think Kanno could have made a real go at the Spider Flip and Gliding Ring if he had known that the Ring wasn't going to take nearly as much effort as Nagano had to do it.

Also interesting that they're both gymnasts.

I did Kanno as well only because without having the credentials like Olympics (at least that I know of) what he did was a lot more incredible and a harder course (IMO). BOTH were spectacular and I like Jordan too but for this I tip my vote to Kanno.

I'm also saying Kanno. I mean compare the two courses, He not only made it to the Third Stage and beat the Shin Cliffhanger on his first try, He's taken down some of what are considered to be the most evil obstacles in history flawlessly, Hell, the only reason it failed seemed to be he tried to give up. Hell, If Yuuji was numbered before him he might have seen how easy it is from there on and he would have went to the Final Stage too.

Actually, I would think the most impressive debut was Akira Oomori. Think about it, nobody knew the very first obstacle, yet he made it to the final stage.

Gotta go with Kanno, not taking anything away from Jovtchev, but the course is a lot harder now than it was then...Cliff Hanger is harder, Propellar Bars are a joke now, arm bike should be in stage 2, i mean, Kanno just beats Jovtchev

I voted for Kanno. IMO, Jovtchev had a more exciting debut. However, Kanno had to deal with harder and more intimidating obstacles than Jovtchev had to deal with.

Shouldn't Koji Yamada and Shinji Kobayashi be on this list? They both made good first impressions to.
Koji coming in at #1 and making it to stage 3.
Shinji coming in, flying past the first stage without using hands on the fist obstacle, kicking the buzzer, and making it further than anyone else.
But out of those I'd say Jotchev, if only for the fact it was raining, he made the final stage and not stage 3, and he was the first foreigner to get to and attempt the final stage.

Both of these guys made it further into the third stage. Levi got to the same obstacle on a much harder course. Also you're thinking of 14 for Shinji. His debut was in 11.

I went for Koji Yamada. For all the things the others have done, they never went first.

Also, the biggest problem I had with Kanno's run is that he quit. Plain and simple, he quit. If I was in his position, I would want to know for sure that I was done by falling into the water and taking it with honor. In my opinion, the fact he quit ruined his entire run for me. Also, Jovtchev didn't quit when he had six seconds to climb the rope climb. And he didn't quit when the spider climb walls were separating away from each other. He held on until he couldn't hold on anymore.
