I know we are tired of this being said. But it a TV show. They probably hit the point where they feel they've done every story they could on him and needed him off TV so they could put a new spin on him next time. Think if it like 90s wrestling. They are modifying the gimmick taking him off of TV to make him fresh again when they bring him back

Hey for absurdity.. they have a champion having to requalify... so nothing surprises me anymore.. nothing. More episodes with a champ = more chances for a surprise either good or bad = more ratings. Also I don't think anyone should get a jump straight to vegas even if they're going in as champion since applying is going to qualifying and city finals (I know those are glorified trials). Also say hypothetically you run a game show, someone wins, this person gets to skip ahead a few rounds in the show, what producer would want to make it easier for someone who already proved they could do it to get a million bucks? Different formats, not entirely comparable. Besides, reality shows are game shows and they're structured in a way where winning one thing automatically grants you immunity to proceed to a later part of the game. If you have a traditional game show and someone wins a big prize and that person is brought back as part of some champion's special or similar theme, those people don't go through the audition process to get back on the show. They contact them to see if they're willing to return. See: Jeopardy, Millionaire in the US has brought back big winners before (including their first millionaire). Big Brother series 15 in the UK literally had a twist where a houseguest on Day 2 was automatically given a pass to the final. The winner of the Eurovision Song Contest has their host country automatically qualify for the final. The winners of the World Cup used to automatically qualify for the next one as defending champions. Germany, the winners of the last World Cup automatically qualified for the Confederations Cup. So these things can happen. The only valid argument really is the potential for more ratings the more appearances they have. But the opposite is also a possibility, if the champion fails to qualify, sure, it bumps up the reputation of the course but there will be people who tune out. So you have to hope no shenanigans happen or put them in an easier region. Of course...technically speaking, the champion isn't appearing this season. NBC finally has to acknowledge him as one officially and I don't think Geoff would accept such an offer if it was available, to his credit, but considering how they paved the road for the bus they put him under with his perfect run, I think it's a small concession that he deserves.

I haven't heard anything. Hopefully we'll get some stray tweets tomorrow night during taping time. It looks like we're going to be kept in the dark similar to last year in Orlando since it's on private property.

They are modifying the gimmick taking him off of TV to make him fresh again when they bring him back If this were the case, they would probably communicate their plans to him, in which case I doubt he would do the WOL. He would simply stay quiet and train and get ready for the next time they want him (be it in 3 seasons, 4, 5, ...). Plus he is an older competitor. If they were to do this to anyone, I imagine they would do it with a mid-20-year-old, and have them come back in their upper 20s when they're still at or almost at their physical peak (and make up a "coming out of retirement" story or something). So I doubt they would be doing something like this. Although lets hope they are...

Has anyone asked him in line? I assume since it's taping today we'd find out if he ran or not?

Is it at all possible David was bumped to a different region for some reason?
I know it seems unlikely but so is him not getting a call at all.

Makes me wonder really. There'll still be a fair amount of people who won't beat the first obstacle as always, but people like David are missing out for the sake of fresh blood. Andrew Karsen missing out last season was harsh and unwarranted IMO, and this is even worse. Ah well. Note to competitors: Sob stories help. Jamie Rahn, now I think of it, has a pretty decent thing going on with his green wig. Same with Lance Pekus' cowboy hat. It makes them memorable to the casual viewers and greatly reduces their chances of missing out on a callback because let's face it, NBC are making a show here, not a sporting event, and memorable is what they want. Thanks for remembering me! But yes this has been a pain for the past two years, ( I am 99% sure I am not getting a call again this year which makes me feel like I wont again ever) But everyone here is right it's a tv show not sporting event all that jazz. But I think that one point people are missing is the social media aspect. Like noted here with Jamie and Lance, and others is how much free social networking they can get out of a person. This new age is also about how many social interactions they can get out of a person. I watched last year Venice finals with Kevin Bull, Joe, and others, and they where on there phones the whole time, just like Matt does with live tweeting. And if you recently saw Kevin "took over" esquires snapchat for a day to start what I only assume will be a new campaign of the ninjas to do a "day in the life" of people that will be featured on the show. So I think ANW wants above being a good athlete, having a good story, but also a good online presence so that the can use you in future social networking interactions. This is no longer about just TV anymore now people, I think its about the show being a starting point for all the future social interactions to dive views and page hits to drive online traffic. ok lunch break is over thanks for letting me vent ha. Bonus IG stuff I saw: http://instagr.am/p/BD2YWPFsoW3 http://instagr.am/p/BD2VUeKldIu http://instagram.com/p/BD2dijxK5zO

Well the "good online presence" is translation for "we don't have to hire someone since they will do it for us for free". So I take that part from NBC as meaning that. NBC is looking for a specific mold of person. Someone that will support it with no questions asked and for little or no money. They demand loyalty to the show and only to the show. They have many willing subjects.

Yeah NBC would hate me lol. I would never market myself or anything. I've been considering not even sending in an application. I don't like how the show is becoming an overmarketed hype machine, even bigger than before. NBC milks the crap out of any of their properties.
One day the gaijin rules will be lax for Sasuke.... I don't care about any second rate spinoffs. I want Sasuke.

I don't care about any second rate spinoffs. I want Sasuke. Its truly becoming more of a reality tv show, kinda like what Phillip just said with a "hype machine". They want people who are super memorable and can market. That's why even though she's been lost in the fray with everything with Isaac, we gotta realize that any fan that watches this show knows exactly who she is...which means of course she'll be on every year. She has thousands of followers on social media (which NBC loves now) and sells merchandise for herself online...she's the ANW John Cena where you love or hate her...but nothing in between but my point is that like all the Survivors or Big Brothers, etc...they want personality that is memorable or larger than life. In recent years that's what we have most definitely seen over the past few years, and for Campbell and Karsen to not be included shows this. Also, I feel like the producers decided that you can't keep all the people we like every year, and there's gonna be someone left out. With all the applications they're getting, it's becoming more and more difficult to make it on the show, which is why this has happened. That's my take

They aren't really actively pushing the social media presence, most of the competitors actually want the social media attention and relative fame. This semi-celeb status is what NBC are capitalising on.
