There are these guys on Facebook, don't know who they are, but they are making a high brow documentary called Finding Midoriyama. Search that name on Facebook and their page will appear. They already have interviews with Shingo, Morimoto, Akiyama and Inui by the look of things, and i'm honestly quite excited.

If Inui sees the documentary and sues for copyright I lose all the respect I have left for him and boycott everything related to SASUKE and leave SMF forever!

I think they also just interviewed Kanno Hitoshi too. Could be wrong but I think he posted pictures with these 2 with Jin so... Actually... Yeah definitely remember that.

Didn't know you were related, so I made the forum post, buy still had a hunch Are you actively planning the doc? The doc is being produced by those two guys. I just helped open the door to the interviews, sharing contacts, etc. and help with any questions on past history they didn't know so they can plan out where they were going next. They started during the ANW era (and one of them during the G4 era) so a lot of the Sasuke history just wasn't there. There's more people involved in the background and I'm in the center of it but obviously but the production itself is not me. I think they also just interviewed Kanno Hitoshi too. Could be wrong but I think he posted pictures with these 2 with Jin so... Actually... Yeah definitely remember that. Yeah usually where Jin is so are they. It's between their trips to Asia that they try to schedule these interviews between their other work that takes them to that side of the globe. They plan to go where Ninja Events are so they have been around here in the USA as well interviewing the ANW portion of the story. This still has a year to go but by this point the cat has been out of the bag for a while. By being open though they get access to more people and help share the word long before the full project goes live.

From what I gather it's everything from Sasuke to American Ninja Warrior. Both of the doco guys are American (one is half Japanese) but have firm roots here in the USA. They are interviewing anyone that was in either of the shows and even in the Spin offs so you'll get perspectives of what "Midoriyama" means from the Americans, Europeans, English, Dutch, Japanese, Tahitians, etc. It will be episodes from what I understand. The actual format is not quite organized yet. Right now they are getting all the interviews taken care of. They initially want to do 100 people (like in Ninja Warrior) but not sure how many will be done. Hopefully they'll do updates as time goes on and they do more. I would say they are about hmmm.. 1/3 of the way through?

As controversial as it is, I hope they include Yamada--wouldn't be a complete documentary without him. Good dramatic story to be fleshed out for the public to know better.

They aren't only interviewing competitors. They've done interviews with people connected to the show in different ways. The range of people interviewed will be pretty wide in the end, spanning nations and SASUKE-eras. Also, doing a more behind the scenes kind of thing is limited because there is a lot of red tape; sometimes they'll have access, sometimes they won't.
Plus, this is, right now, not some giant production. It is two guys who are, as arsenette says in her blog post, weaving their documentary filming between their regular jobs. To follow one person around all the time would take time and resources that they don't have. Besides, all the versions of the show already do that to some extent. This would be more like those interviews that Inui posted on youtube a couple years ago.
Without knowing the exact details, some people - probably those with agents and legit celebs - might not be accessible for free. I would include Yamada in that group.

They will ask everyone they can (and I know they have) and some people are available and some not. They won't pay a fee to talk to anyone though.. Yamada is one of many that have agents. All attempts though will be made to get everyone (including him). Even when I did my own history stuff I talked about Yamada in a positive light. Regardless of what I think of him he is still Mr. Sasuke and saved Sasuke once from cancellation. He is integral to the history of the show, but we just have to see what happens during the times they are in town. They've been in Japan 3 times since the project got greenlit and it's been a strict timeline having to be at several places for work. They've been down south only once the times they were there. They are doing this on their own dime as well. They are giving this about a year more and we'll see what they can come up with.

Just getting interviews with Inui, Akiyama, Kanno, Morimoto and Shingo is already great, and i'm sure people this passionate will be able to make a good documentary no matter the restraints. I for one am hyped!

I for one am hyped! Yeah I know not everyone will be happy. There won't be "conflict" because that's not their personality (the documentary guys). And yeah, this is a huge undertaking that's coming out of their pocket. So far it's a phenomenal feat what they have been able to do so far. I like how they are adding from different countries. Personally I would have stuck to Japan but that's a particular demographic I'm interested in. They are doing a worldwide thing by including even hopefuls who have never been on the show. I would have been a bit more discerning but it's not my project. Still, it's better than nothing right now and anything to get the spotlight back on Japan on a world stage is a huge win.

The makers confirmed today that "if we can get him (Yamada), we'll interview him. They're looking to make him a part of the doc, and want to get as many All-Stars as possible.
