Morimoto and Akiyama are the only two champions never to fail any variation of the Cliffhanger.

So he's not the first. I mean the winner of that particular tournament. In sasuke 17 nagano had 12.5 seconds in stage 1. In sasuke 27 yuuji had 15.8 seconds in stage 1. Sorry if I didn't make that clear

SASUKE 27 remains the only tournament (with a kanzenseiha) where more than one champion beat Stage 1.

Unless you count soon to be champions like in SASUKE 29. Morimoto and Yuuji cleared. If not then you're right.

I was more focused on any tourney at that point. BTW hey Shingo didn't fail the backstream so he isn't 3 in a row there. Oh and for Takeda's case he never saw the rapid decent so if that had any reason for his fail well there ya go.

Kawaguchi has had a 7 in his start number 6 of the 7 times he has competed in Sasuke (he's also worn #47 and #67 twice)

This is the first time in Makoto Nagano's career that he's failed to make it to the Third Stage in four consecutive tournaments. All six All-Stars now have such a streak.
In addition, this may come as a surprise to many: that was Nagano's fifth time failing the Soritatsu Kabe in some form. He's tied for second among All-Stars with Kazuhiko Akiyama. Yamada leads (shocker) with seven. Takeda and Yamamoto have never failed the Soritatsu Kabe.

Just realized something. Ryo Matachi is the only Shin Sedai (So this does NOT include Morimoto) that has never failed any variation of the cliffhanger

Yuuji Urushihara, Hitoshi Kanno, Kazuma Asa, Ryo Matachi.

Not others (or the shin sedai of then I guess you'd say... not sure)
