Sorry for yet another consecutive post as well as a bump but I'm sure this is actually in the rules as there is new information (even if I'm late finding it but evidently it flew under all of our radars). BattleBots has been renewed for a season 3 of the reboot however it's no longer on ABC, It's on Science Channel as well as Discovery apparently, they're Aiming for May as far as airing, as far as taping it's supposed to take place over 2 weeks in early April and is apparently underway. Evidently 20 episodes this season.

Season 3 trailer!
Chris, Kenny, and Faruq are returning. Jessica Chobot is now sideline reporter.
Airing on Discovery means they should be getting more viewers since Science Channel tends to be separated or missing entirely in some TV packages.

The Discovery premiere was last week and the Science Channel premiere was this week. He said there will be 55 bots with a chance to fight up to 4 times each to determine Top 16. The graphic shows 56. Not going to look any closer. Attachment DeletedOn Discovery, there were 5 battles, with 1 of them being a rumble with three bots. Science aired a bonus 2nd rumble! They got into the first fight pretty quickly. They also saved some time by airing pre-interview bits from competitors overlayed in the corner as teams got ready in the arena. I liked the post-fight interview split-screen with the slow motion highlight. Going into commercial after each fight, they would have short pieces of interviews and previous highlights to hype up the night's final match. "The Main Event" of the night featured Tombstone against Minotaur. Last year, Minotaur went out in Semi Finals, and Tombstone would became champion. The fight was what last year's Championship could have been, and it was a great way to end the night's season premiere. I was totally rooting for the forklift bot. Mainly for the novelty of seeing a mini forklift trying to set everything on fire. What annoys me about the Discovery broadcast are the promos popping up during matches that take up nearly a quarter of the screen for 10 seconds at a time. Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedOverall, better than ABC, and everyone should watch!

I'll agree things are better than with ABC but one thing I'll give ABC credit for, uploading the matches, would have been nice if there was an official high quality upload of Tombstone vs Minotaur. Almost feels weird making that an opening round match but at the same time I guess they wanted to guarantee that fight to viewers. I'm not sure how many people know there is robot combat outside of Battlebots so they probably haven't seen any Last Rites vs Touro Maximus fights, and even then this managed to top those (I'm assuming something to do with the extra 30lbs in the weight limit giving more potential)

The new season has been going on for over a month now and it's similar to the last one, which was good.
Last season, they switched to 2-hour episodes with more teams. They also brought on Jenny Taft. The show gets more time for behind the scenes segments where they can show demonstrations, or talk about strategy, or go into technical details, or follow up on an aspect of a previous match.
This season, we still get to have spectators, not with a crowd of random people, but with the teams getting their own little sections in the stands to watch the fights.
Discovery+ is also airing a side tournament that was taped after the main season called BattleBots: Bounty Hunters. There are 6 elite bots, and one tournament for each of them. Each tournament features 8 regular bots, and the winner of each tournament gets to take on that tournament's elite bot.

Discovery is now airing Bounty Hunters for the next 6 weeks. The whole 12 episode season already finished on Discovery+. Each mini tournament is spread across 2 episodes, but Discovery is airing each tournament as single 2 hour episode which works a lot better.

BattleBots Championship premieres August 4. It's a 6-part special similar to last year's BattleBots: Bounty Hunters but with a few differences. In Bounty Hunters, each of the 6 episodes features a mini tournament to become the bounty hunter, and get the chance to fight that episode's bounty bot. They would receive $25,000 if they won. The bounty hunter beat the bounty bot in 4 out of 6 episodes. In Championship, 5 episodes feature a bounty tournament. The winner of the bounty fight would get a spot in the finale episode. The 5 bounty bots are 5 of the 6 episode winners from last year's Bounty Hunters. 3 of the spots in the finale will already be taken up by 3 champions from the ABC and Discovery reboot. www.discovery.com/shows/battlebots/articles/battlebots-champions-golden-bolt-trophy-tournament-slugfest-new-watch

Season 7 premiered last week.
A couple of changes to the qualifiers. The season features fewer bots - 50, which is still a lot. Each bot will have 4 matches that have all been predetermined, so we know the entire fight schedule from the beginning.
They're also referring to it as World Championship VII, rather than the year. This really helps avoid confusion when watching and talking about it. You're watching the season that airs in 2023 for the tournament that took place in 2022, not to be confused with the previous season that aired in 2022 for the tournament that taped in 2021, or the 2020 season that both taped and aired in 2020 but finished in 2021, etc.

Season 7 / Championship VII finished back in May. --- They addressed the two biggest problems with the rules from Season 6. First, is fixing the movement rule. Before, if your bot was crab-walking, you would get counted out, and it was inconsistent when it was applied. Now, if you're able to move at all, the match continues. In addition to that, if the other bot is fully functional, then they need to move in to attack, or else they'll be counted out. If both bots are messed up, and not able to make any meaningful progress toward each other, then both will be counted out. Second, is that every team is able to appeal a decision, but with the condition that if you lose your appeal, then you lose your ability to appeal any future matches for the rest of the season. --- All the fights were pre-determined so we knew the whole schedule from the beginning. Every bot had 4 fights, instead of 3 or 2. They showed every fight! There were some fights where barely anything was happening, so they split-screened it with a promo for an upcoming fight which was funny. Teams who didn't do well this season are also at greater risk of not returning for the next. There were also exhibition matches we briefly got to see. These are generally for bots who didn't get chosen for the show, and allows them to build up a resume for consideration in future seasons. --- Each of the final four episodes also had an after show where the hosts talk with some of the builders, and it was a lot of fun. It also gave us "HUGE POON" Recap of the after shows - battlebots.fandom.com/wiki/Road_to_the_Giant_Nut--- A couple threads praising the format changes... https://www.reddit.com/r/battlebots/comments/13moef5/can_i_just_shoutout_the_new_amazing_format_changes/https://www.reddit.com/r/battlebots/comments/13ovcfc/dear_show_producers_almost_all_of_the_changes/
