It's perfectly legal. They are guests to a show and once they are on the lot everything is in lockdown. It is technically a closed set and NBC rules over that. As far as they are concerned, Japan was flown over to compete in the event, not for a fan meet and greet. Soooo technically NBC aren't doing it to spite Japan, just because they have a quite a large event to put on, a schedule to follow etc...? Was that what you were saying? It's complicated.. Japan is dealt with very differently in Vegas. Competitors and even the production crew treat them nicely.. it's NBC corporate that does stupid things to them. This has been happening for 3 years and I don't expect it will ever change. That is a problem within NBC and the Japanese competitors pay the price. Fans at least have found a way to get close to them away from the set but it's not like it is with anyone else. The worst was the first year (USA vs. JAPAN) where they were removed from the set when people wanted to take pics with them.. The last couple of times they just had them busy around town and away from the strip to keep them from seeing fans instead of the first year where they were relegated to the hotel room for 4 days.. It's still bad but they've learned to work around the restrictions. Look, they aren't happy either, but they are only there at the behest of NBC so whether we like it or not, they are beholden to their hosts.

Probably to prove American dominance, but why continue it? I mean why is Japan still involved? 90% of viewers don't know Japan invented Sasuke, and 90% of viewers won't care if they don't appear on ANW again. NBC could easily have just made it US vs Europe in USAvWorld 3, but they still brought Japan. For NBC it brings all the risk of fan interest in sasuke and competitor friction and fear of Morimoto kicking a** vs Dory. What does NBC have to gain at this point from Japan competing?

Many times NBC has tied their history to Sasuke to the point of taking the name of most of their obstacles, the name of course and even their own history on certain obstacles from Sasuke. No one else knows of the divisive politics between them like us maniacs. So to ignore them would be to signal that not all is good in ANW land and TBS. Maintaining status quo keeps everyone thinking everything is fine when it can't be further from the truth.

In the meantime, Drew's Instagram page is full of stuff like this (really hope tapatalk doesn't make these pics full screen...)

Good job arsenette! I will pray for the lightning to strike twice for ya. A second trip would be amazing for ya. Also yeah one of these days I hope Team Japan gets a chance to interact with fans a bit more outside their own country. Reminds me of cross country friends... but seriously I can't wait!

Whilst I agree with everything you said there, and ANW still has a laundry list of issues, ANW still seems to be going strong. Do you at least agree that it has improved slightly. For example, the international specials seem to become less of a travesty every year, course design and construction has definitely improved, and by building up its own pool of contestants, ANW had developed its own legitimate personalities and "All-Star". In terms of the main show, I think the latest season was actually the greatest yet, just with a bitter end.

I do, but since you don't blog ANW like you do Sasuke, you rarely talk about course construction except in the context of the Japanese competitors (e.g. butterfly wall etc...). I'm asking about the main finals

I'm asking about the main finals I hate the production of ANW with an extreme passion. I have boycotted it since ANW3 when NBC took over. Unless they change their format, fire the announcers, cut 90% of the filler and return Sasuke to American television Airwaves that will not change. Why the hell would I blog about a show I despise?

What do you mean by boycott though? If you dislike the show, fine, don't watch it, but you make it seem like you want to drag the whole thing down despite other people enjoying it and training year-round for it. Just what I got from that post, don't shoot me.
What was wrong with NBC taking over way back in ANW3? ANW 3 was probably the best of the first three, and the courses of practically every Vegas/City course since ANW 4 has been better than those first three Venice beaches.
What you say seems kind of selfish, as in just wanting Sasuke. Why can't ANW & Sasuke co-exist on US television? Removing ANW would make the years of work from thousands of competitors pointless, competitors that more than any, deserve the show that they are passionate about. I agree about the filler, but Matt Iseman seems like a good guy and has been nice to you specifically before. I guess my point is, these days, especially in regards to the Vegas finals (which have been refined to the point that I and others can enjoy them as almost as much as Sasuke), there really doesn't seem much to "passionately hate".

First of all you really enjoy derailing threads into ANW arguments. You really are insecure when it comes to people disagreeing with your life view.
I gave you my stance and I hate it. Since I hate it I no longer watch it unless it is tied to Sasuke. I boycott it because no one needs to hear me rant about a show I hate. I hate it therefore I don't watch it. I get a migraine listening to Matt rant and I rage when he rewrites Sasuke history in order to elevate ANW above Sasuke. NBC has made it their mission to rewrite Sasuke from existence to the point that they have erased the accomplishments of Americans that competed in Sasuke before NBC even touched the license. I don't go into every thread to spew my hatred for the show. So I don't appreciate you accusing me of "not talking about ANW" when you know I hate it. Stop trying to change my opinion. I have a right to my opinion just as you do yours. I've said it many many times. I don't watch it and I don't blog about it. I don't comment on the show on the threads unless it is something specific that has been brought to my attention with regards with competitors that I like. I love ANW competitors and I feel bad that they have been the victims of politics over the years with the war between NBC and TBS over the license. Many competitors are Sasuke fans and former vets of Sasuke and members of SMF the community I've spent 8 years with.
Kind of selfish? ANW and Sasuke can't peacefully coexist the way they used to when G4 was around. NBC removed Sasuke from the United States 5 years ago. We now have to resort to PIRACY to even enjoy the show. How the hell am I selfish? NBC caused this problem. I have never ever advocated for the removal of ANW. Period. Get your facts right before accusing me of things I have never said nor done. And stop projecting your insecurities on me. Drag me into the ANW argument and I will be violent about it. THAT is why I don't write about ANW and THAT is why I get defensive whenever you drag me into it again because YOU like it and I don't. Enjoy ANW on your own time. Stop trying to convert someone who already has a negative opinion of the show.

Stop trying to convert someone who already has a negative opinion of the show. Look Arsenette, I don't understand why you need to get so worked up over my post. I wasn't accusing you of anything. Hell, I realised too late after saying you advocate for the removal of ANW, that you never did. That is my mistake and I fully take responsibility.
You seem to confuse me though for some kind of ANW fanboy. You told me why you hated ANW, so this is my turn to defend myself. I don't love ANW. I don't even like it that much. 7 was the first season I watched, and even then it was just the Vegas finals. I also don't enjoy devolving threads into arguments. On these same forums I have had civil, relatively friendly conversations with you on other topics before. I just enjoy hearing the viewpoints of someone who consistently claims to despise ANW, but still seems to follow all news on the show and is active in most forums involving it here. Look closely at this thread. I HAPPILY asked you (with a smiley face and all!) about your opinions on the normal Vegas course, and you launched into a long, unrelated on how much you hated ANW.
I don't know what else to say. I hate the removal of Sasuke from America just as much you do. Don't you think it irks me too when they mention a competitor's entire post ANW 3 career, but fail to mention they appeared in Sasuke before even ANW 4? I WISH the history quoted by Matt all the time was correct, but on the other side of things, you have to understand that he doesn't have Sasukepedia open constantly on set. I wish that the commentators were quieter, but on the other hand I find: "Sa! Crazy CliffhangAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" annoying as well. I understand your opinion, and hell, can even relate. So please, don't build an incorrect image of me as someone that is out to get you. I'm not. The only time I ask you something, is when I'm interested to hear the answer. You aren't even obligated to reply.

This is a thread for USA vs. World. I wrote a blog. Feel free to disagree with the blog. The second you come to accuse me of things, litigate my viewing habits and antagonize me on other threads then backpedal and shift it on me as if I was the one that brought it up.. you bet I will be indignant. No amount of sugar coating changes the fact that you do this to me at least once a month because you feel it is your personal duty to convert people to ANW because you feel somehow if someone says anything negative about ANW somehow they are attacking YOUR viewing habits, likes and dislikes. I'm tired of it. This is not the only time you've done it so I acted accordingly. Each time you apologize and mention that you've been ridiculed for your opinions by people you used to call friends. Enjoy ANW and leave me alone. Stick to the subject and stop asking me about ANW. I hate it. Move on.

I'm gonna end by saying, even though you accuse me of "attacking" you over ANW at least once a month, you pretty much bring the heat to ANW without provocation, even more often than that. I'm putting this to bed now, and it's late. Good night to you and this ridiculous discussion.

Listen, let's not make a major case of this. If you like ANW? OK good for you enjoy it. Don't like ANW? That's fine too, people have different tastes and reasons. Have things improved as far as all the on-site operations (constructions, dealing with issues, dealing with competitors) improved over the years? Definitely, that's not to say there aren't serious flaws with things like that *cough*Snake Crossing*cough*Vegas time limits*cough* but things have improved from the G4 days and even the early NBC days. But there are still major issues especially the fact NBC/Comcast feels that since they have ANW they don't have to show Sasuke and the fact things have gone underground, back in the day someone could be like "Oh hey I like ANW, where can I see the Japanese show?" (Ignoring the fact that never happened since ANW and Sasuke coexisted on the same channel back in those days but let's go with the hypothetical here) you could be like "Oh yeah it comes on channel whatever pretty often" and now it's like "*looks both ways* OK you join such and such website, you have to secretly message one of 4 people, they'll give you the secret password and you can't speak about any of this" just to be able to see it.. It should be shown side by side and not some secret underground piracy.
And that's just the big elephant in the room, there's also the issue of how they pick and choose when Sasuke is relevant with no indication of when they are and when they're not counting it and just jumble it all together to make like things never happened in Sasuke and happened for the first time in ANW (I.E. like a female competitor clearing the Jumping Spider, Meagan may have been first in ANW but if we're going to mix up all Jumping Spider history she's more like the what, 6th? 7th?. Or how Geoff was the first American to clear Stage 3 in regular competition when Kane Kosugi did it in Sasuke 8 back in 2001). It's one thing if they adopt the history since it's a spinoff (which would be find if they actually admitted they're a spinoff but they don't...) or if they decided to go with their own continuity (and we all know the backlash that happened in the G4 days) but the fact they try to mix the history completely and unless you're a hardcore fan (Or if we want to put things in wrestling terms, the NW equivalent of being a Smark) you'll never know the difference so millions of people watching on primetime will get bad information and not even know Sasuke exists aside from one special a year which shoots holes in the continuity of both shows even more.
So has ANW improved over the years? Yes. Are they still major political issues causing a struggle between Tokyo Broadcasting System and Comcast? Oh definitely, and those issues hurt everyone involved.
EDIT: Also btw, Matt Iseman seems like a pretty nice guy based on my experiences, but that doesn't mean Arsenette doesn't have a right to dislike his commentary because of the notes the people who write his notes and put things on the big telepromter for him that he has no control over

As for the other, you brought it up several times before as defense for attacking me. You kicked a hornets nest then bitched that you got stung. You KNOW I get hostile with ANW but you still ask. Stop asking me and I won't bite back. Geez. I have a right to hate ANW. Get.. over.. it..

I know everyone loves Team Japan but can we just be real for a minute? What is going on with them? I understand nerves, i understand travel, i understand a lack-of-experience in international competitions, i understand the obstacles are bigger, i understand they didn't get a chance to train on the obstacles like the other teams. I get it! But please, they didn't choke this year! Choking is falling on the last hurdle, missing the last shot, dropping the last catch. Consistently performing terribly 3 years running means performing poorly is the norm. What do they need to do to steady the ship? I think this year they had the best team/chance to do well. I would kinda like to see Yuuji back but i dont know. Say if you were coaching Team Japan, what would be your next move to try and improve the performance next year?
