Not my fault stage 3 was a cake walk after the UCH in 27.... Ladders in between obstacles was a joke. The course is "easier" for taller competitors but they also have to hold more body weight. If any good competitor goes out on this 31st course, they'll have no excuse.

Flukes happen. Nothing you can do about those (that are the result of hubris and not poor obstacle quality/design).

Sure but 30 clears wouldn't be a fluke..... Too bad this course is "harder" than last time.

Well, There goes my theory that the top of the roller hill spins as well... yeah im confused by this aswell! Do all of the rollers spin but at different tensions? By the looks of the video it looked liked towards the top some didnt spin at all. That kinda sucks.

The speed in which you move on them, including the weight of the competitor and the angle they hit the obstacle matters in whether they spin. This was the case for the the original as well. All of the grey rollers spin. The top part, the wooden logs, don't seem to spin. Never meant to.

Jump hang kai and WW excuse me.... Joke stage 1. If the finalists from ANW this year ran that, 75/90 would clear. Even though we've justified the fact that this could NEVER happen?

I think we've established that there are two opposing views that won't relent. And that's fine. However, we are on the 5th page and we haven't discussed the actual obstacles but had an ANW vs. Sasuke thread again. Could we possibly go back to that? I'd like to hear more about people's thoughts on the actual obstacles of this competition. The debate of ANW vs. Sasuke has been rehashed a few times in the ANW boards and even there we've (hardcore Sasuke) had to step out of the fray. Please don't bring it here and attempt to keep the thread on track. It's obvious we have opposing views and won't agree no matter how each side poses their arguments.

The obstacles on stage 1 are too easy. That was my point from the beginning. Can't wait to find out what else is on stage 2.

The obstacles on stage 1 are too easy. That was my point from the beginning. Can't wait to find out what else is on stage 2. Understood. I just noticed that both sides kept going on that track. I happen to disagree but I'm spoiled so that is a huge part of that and why I didn't jump in earlier. Stage 2 had 1 change and we already saw stage 3's change. Stage 4 they already showed is unchanged. I don't remember if they fudged the times on both. Honestly, I don't remember as I don't look into those things. I just remember I didn't rage so there was a nice mix of wtf and yeeeeeeeeees and OMG NOOOO.. making it a top 3 tournament for me. I've always mentioned that regardless of which show it is, obstacles should never be taken in isolation. If the sum of their parts do their job, then the course as a whole is balanced. It's when one obstacle takes precedence or all of them are weak is when we see most of the rage on the boards. The combo of the tackle + wall is what made the competitors gasp before the taping even started. Shock value alone of those who consider the tackle box as part of the 2nd stage being moved to the first was something that was palatable. It's like seeing the walls moved to the first. I think people would freak out if that happened. I thought Inui was crazy for doing it, but he's on the same mission he has always been. Break the top 3-5 from the previous year. By seeing the tackle there, it was obvious who he was gunning for.

the young stars... I haven't seen them training so much in weights. Ryo and Yuuji may be in trouble. Also yeah stage 2 and the salmon ladder. Wonder what change was put on it... and the TIME LIMIT!

I don't mind the Tackle being moved to stage 1, It gives that same shock when the Jumping Spider got introduced. "THey put a Stage 2 obstacle in stage 1? And made it harder!?"

I think I mentioned in the podcast that the timer was flipped away from us. Just how they put the one clock was to benefit the competitors who had to see it. So there was no way I could see what it was and it wasn't reflected on the jumbo screen. Only if a competitor or TBS mentions it will we know if it's the same time limit. Stage 1's clock was also away from us (next to the buzzer at the end) and was too far for me to see.

I didn't catch that. I only assumed the time stayed the same or they shaved a little bit of time off. My guess.

I notice they've added a black pad next to the lumberjack climb, I'm guessing that will make the swing to the landing pad a little easier. All in all though I like the look of the obstacles, I think its going to be tougher then it looks

I think Morimoto Yūsuke is going to be in some serious trouble too. The last 2 years he has failed to lift the walls over his head. Strength-based obstacles are definitely his weakness.
