That Music Box was different than what I thought it would be :S The dismount looks dodgy though, I could definitely see someone like Shingo derping there I saw that and immediately that's what I thought too! O.O Shingo you better not derp anything... the backstream is your main rival right now! O.O

I honestly feel like anyone semi-athletic could beat that course if they have any WW experience. Too easy once again. I'll be shocked if there's less than 20 clears. Isn't that the point of Stage 1? I've always thought that Stage 1 was meant so most semi athletic people should be able to beat it, and then Stage 2, 3 and 4 was where you needed to train a lot for and separated the wrestlers and comedians like Tomohiro Matsunaga and Wakky from the stars and veterans like Yuuji Urushihara and Kenji Takahashi.

But we don't know the time limit, and even for someone fairly athletic, the Tackle obstacle will be a decent time sink. There's also the awkward Music Box dismount, and the first obstacle's not one to sneer at either. I'm not saying there won't be several clears, or even quite a few clears. But I think it's a bit rash to say that the only obstacle that will give anyone athletic any trouble is the WW. Jump hang kai and WW excuse me.... Joke stage 1. If the finalists from ANW this year ran that, 75/90 would clear.

And an easier way to make sure Ryo, Yuuji or Kishimoto beat stage 3. Might as well start the competition on stage 2.

If something like 25's Circle Slider was put in after the Wall I'd be very happy with the First Stage. I agree with Robby that Sasuke's Stage 1 is clearly easier than ANW's, but that's not what matters. Sasuke and ANW are two shows using the same concept in different formats. Sasuke takes pride in its celebrity and "joke" competitors along with top contendors and average joes making a name for themselves. Although ANW does that to some extent, it's more of a competition utilizing trials to get only the best competitors from across the nation. So ANW's first stage being tougher makes sense. Additionally, I think both Sasuke's and ANW's 4 stage courses even out in the end. If you put all 90 ANW finalists on the Crazy Cliffhanger or Vertical Limit, I'd venture to say maybe 3 would clear them. Maybe. Which nation cleared ANW's 3rd Stage the most in USA vs. The World? Japan. So with this reasoning I think Sasuke having an easier Stage 1 is justified, but more so now with the addition of Inui's new ideas of Roller Hill and the Music Box. Both are very deceptive obstacles that could trip up Yuuji or Ryo. Furthermore, I think the Tackle Boxes into the Soritatase Kabe is not something to scoff at. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wall did some surprising damage this year.

If they want it to be easier for celebrities they can lower the wall or something for them, don't make the course so easy that Yamada can complete it. I bet even Inui can beat this stage 1. Mr. Octupus could make the jump hang on this one....

The course is not easier than last year's. That's all I'll say about it.

I still think the tackle machines will kill some of the smallers guy like Yuuji and make them struggle time wise, although they should still pass I think. Also they may have changed the rotation speed of the music box before the tournament began, but yea overall this is looking an easy stage 1, but no easier than last year.

I don't even consider this First Stage to be easy. This First Stage looks pretty tricky and tiring. If people gauge a course's difficulty on whether or not Ryo can pass it, then they're underestimating his skill level. To be able to scale the Warped Wall at his height impresses me immensely. I say this because I'm someone who is 6'1" and can barely grab one hand over the damn thing and then use all my might to get myself over it. He's obviously not the only one, and other obstacles on the course show this too. The only reason ANW's 1st Stage is so hard for the Japanese is because it's not scaled and tailored to their size. Yeah, I wish there was a one size fits all course, but we don't live in a perfect world. However, while the Americans dominate in Stage 1, the Japanese excell in Stage 3. And some competitors from both sides own both. The courses average out in the end.

Let's not pretend that ANW's Vegas Stage 1 is the prime example of difficulty when the lowest amount of clears on it have been 18 and I'd argue the reason there hasn't been a winner is that there's always happens to be an obstacle on each stage that is fishy in terms of design/function (or just outright horrid). Regardless, there's no way this course doesn't trip up SOMEONE.

If Inui is convinced getting some entertainers or stars to clear stage 1 is the key to big ratings, I understand that. But then, where are the stars? In the end, I want there to be many more Sasukes so I'm not going to write a hate letter to anyone or anything because who would care? But there should be some sort of significant challenge for someone who has trained for this for years and it's missing. Maybe more people failed this year. Maybe the competitors this year are weaker. I don't know what the case is for this to be a harder course, but it sure doesn't look like it, unless the barrel climb did some crazy damage.

We'd get like 5 clears. Put the Americans on the Japanese course and we'd get 50.

Both sides of this argument have their points, and comprimise is probably optimal in my opinion. Like I said, the Circle Slider from 25 challenged the Japanese and the 2 Americans who attempted it alike. I think that put in after the Wall and having Inui put in more celebrities like that NAOTO guy would do a lot of good.
Regardless, I'm really excited to see the numbers 87-100 run this course.

ANW's course would be tough for them because, like MattyRox said, most of the obstacle aren't scaled to them. That matters if TBS and NBC had a deal to make sure the course was fairly scaled which NBC ended up reneging on. I also out a field of 90 or so wouldn't say 75 of ANW's choices are top notches either. Like said earlier, difference in formats get different subsets of people, it's one thing to connect via accomplishments that blend the canon of the shows sometimes (which apparently is scandalous now if this place is asked), but you can't reasonably compare two groups of completely different people when the process of how they're chosen is different, and keeping in mind while the Superfans of Sasuke who regularly train are the exceptions to the rule on their end (and only recently considered the major stars of the show), the Superfans of ANW are the norm to the point anyone whose second job (or only) isn't training on the obstacles is considered this surprise success story.

Ok let me put it this way, if that was an ANW qualifier course, 60 people would clear it. Time limit and all.

Which is an easy claim to state when the overwhelming majority are people whose second jobs (or first) are training on obstacles, as opposed to Sasuke whose superfans have become the stars only recently. Those people are expected to clear Stage 1, them failing should be a shock, a result of their own hubris; not the goal of the stage when a show is a perennial bubble show because its network can't get it in its head to promote a show in limited areas outside a two week window.

I re-watched Sasuke 17 because I had nothing significant to do the other day and Paul Terek, peak shape that he was in, got to the Cliffhanger in spite of his large frame. It should be easy pickings for you when you're the largest thing with a heartbeat there that day. Everyone believes if his hands weren't slippery, David Campbell would have been the first American Ninja Warrior during 27. David's not as tall as Paul, but he'd be the tallest champion by nearly 20 centimeters. He's not even gotten to Stage 2 in Vegas yet, and we all know that's not because of lack of skill.
