It's been a few weeks since someone posted an update for this thread so I will give a brief overview of what's been going on. All summer ANW and the Bachelorette have been battling for viewers during the same time slot. And as the Bachelorette got closer to final episode the viewership for it had gone up while the viewership for ANW has gone down over the same time peiord. However the season finally was a few weeks ago and the time slot is now filled with Bachelor in Paradise which still attracts millions of viewers but not to sacle of the Bachelorette. So because of this the Orlando and Pittsburgh finals ratings increase with Pittsburgh episode having over 7 million viewers in total without accounting for DVR views. I might do a more detailed overview after the season conculdes.

Yeah that's actually pretty normal. Vegas doesn't normally have high ratings by comparison to the other weeks and because the season is too long it suffers against the Fall debuts. I see they haven't announced USA vs. World so they might try to save that for another time when it won't get slaughtered in the ratings.

I would think, from a psychology standpoint, that a winner reinforces that ANW isn't an impossible challenge which would give viewers more incentive to watch. (Case in point: my mom skipped ANW this season because "nobody's going to win anyway".) They've really showed their ability to make stars so ANW8 will determine how they can capitalize from a viewership standpoint. That said, I think they have to quicken up the next season or else get mauled in the ratings by Dancing with the Stars and Monday Night Football on finale night. The fundamental flaw is that people who are tuning in to see, say, Kacy only see her once in six weeks, then if she qualifies they see her again six weeks later. By getting to Vegas quicker they ensure that the season isn't being dragged out and that people get to see their favorite stars more often.

That's going to be a hard case to win against NBC to shorten the season when they have been in 1st for the overwhelming majority of the season. The only thing that MIGHT change their minds was 2n d place on that Fall debut week. This time last year it was the USA vs. World event and this time was the Finale. Hopefully next year they just dial it back at least a week to finish up when all the other Summer finales are.

The Olympics will end up pre-empting ANW8 for 2 weeks, if it goes through September again.
ANW4 didn't have that problem because of the G4/NBC season split that ran from 5/20/12 to 7/23/12.

According to the Daily News, the finale did 6.1 million viewers, a record high for an ANW finale.

According to the Daily News, the finale did 6.1 million viewers, a record high for an ANW finale. Yeah that was the high point in viewers all season. Solid second behind the DWTS juggernaut and an about face from the last three years ratings. ANW4 - 4th place (network) (10th place in viewers) - Million Viewers: 3.99 Rating 1.4 / Share 4 ANW5 - 4th place (network) (6th in demo - 10th in viewers) - Million viewers: 4.04 / Rating: 1.5 / Share: 4 ANW6 - 3rd place (network) night ranking - 2nd place (network) 9 pm hour - Million viewers: 5.29 / Rating: 1.8 / Share: 5 ANW 7 - 4th place (network) (10th place in viewers) - Million Viewers: 6.06 Rating 2.1 / Share 7

The hockey playoffs really screwed it over. Should have had the final the week before, and ratings would have been amazing.

I don't understand why they felt the need to do a recap episode in between the regionals and Vegas. Could just have put the Vegas preview at the end of the Military finals.

Didn't they gain a week as well with the whole Miss Universe? I thought they moved it up a week. I didn't realize it was a recap episode? or am I confusing the weeks?

Btw for those who are always interested in comparison.. This is THIS week's ratings. I'm reaaaaaally happy now that they didn't put vs. World against the premiere of Big Bang Theory..

Going against Big Bang would've been ratings suicide.
