The only real thing I'm iffy on this tournament is how the edit is going to turn out. The last 2 tournaments were really badly edited (hell, 29's was so bad I stopped watching after Stage 2). Crossing fingers that Yuuji and Shingo don't get digested again (and in that case Kongu, Takeda and Shun).

Sal, you have to consider that ONE GUY edits the entire 4-hour broadcast. In fact I think 29 was a 3-hour broadcast and they had 21 first stage clears.

That sounds like a personal problem then, someone can't edit something to appease to everyone specifically, everyone has different favorites so they can't make time for everyone, I agree some notable names should have been shown and not FF'd but they can't edit things specifically for everyone, if someone wanted that wait for all the runs to show up on youtube

I really hope we hear some of the classic competitor themes. I miss that aspect of the presentation.

I'd mark out like Ziggler winning the WHC if I heard this all of a sudden

The winner of this match, and moving on to the Second Stage... BARRY HOROWITZ!!!
I blame myself for letting wrestling leak into SMF, but I don't care. It's fun.
I hope SASUKE 31 is tough, like 21-22 tough. I hope we see some new stars emerge though.

I don't mind a couple references here and there for the fun of it but I don't want this thread getting 40 pages long and only 1 page of discussion about actual news. I really hope we hear some of the classic competitor themes. I miss that aspect of the presentation. That is a problem ever since M9 lost a music copyright lawsuit. The bigger issue is that if we want these to be on DVD/Bluray the music can't be on it and will require a full reedit of the show. So while I Loooooooooove the old themes.. they can't keep using it since they got in trouble for using it without paying for it.

I hope that they change the drum hopper to an ascending drum hopper and with a bigger gap at the end so people don't just skip the last drum like in 30. Also if they bring back the Body Prop I would be pretty happy too Basically make some more obstacles that don't require pure grip strength (looks at cliffhanger and VL) so that heavier competitors have more of a chance next time.

We are within the 10 day window so we can check the estimated forecast for Tokyo (Midoriyama is about an hour to the West but that should give you a rough idea). I'm happy that so far the weather is expected to be dry! Yay! The Typhoon near Guam right now is expected to not severely impact Japan at this time so I'm keeping fingers crossed.

Does anyone have any idea about the mysterious Stage 2b from last year and whether that could make a return in SASUKE 31?

I'm pretty sure this is correct, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. It was a second stage 2 they had built at Sasuke 30 that they called Stage 2b, and we don't know much about it except they decided not to use it. It could have been like Kunoichi 8's Stage 3 with the Flying Roll, or anything we don't really know. Basically it was constructed, we never saw it, and it wasn't used.

Does anyone have any idea about the mysterious Stage 2b from last year and whether that could make a return in SASUKE 31? What the hell are you talking about? Clarify please. Originally, the 2nd Stage was split up into two sections: Stage 2A, which was the traditional 2nd Stage, and Stage 2B, which was scrapped. The premise was that if enough people cleared Stage 2A, they would then move on to Stage 2B, which consisted solely of the Gallon Throw from Pro Sportsman No.1 and the Tackle Machine from SASUKE 5. The fastest times through that would then advance to the 3rd Stage. No specifics were given beyond that. Stages 1 and 2A were to be taped on the first day and Stages 2B and 3 (and the final, if necessary) were to be taped on the second day. Instead, when the competitors returned for the second day of filming, Stage 2B had been torn down and Stage 2A was consolidated into the 2nd Stage, with those that cleared the night prior automatically moving on to the 3rd Stage just as they had always done. EDIT: I think it was cross-promotion for SASUKE ASEAN Cup which obviously bombed out. It won't be back.

Okie dokie. What happened was 2 things. a) Inui is a bastard and wanted to give everyone a heart attack (yes.. he's totally into shock value. The man is nuts and loves to punk/troll people as entertainment for himself) and b) he was going to use it if there were more than 9 clears on Stage 2. Originally it was an idea to show Vietnam how to build obstacles (since the organizing committee was there and they were supposed to have done their version a few months after. That's when Vietnam decided to eff it and hire TBS to do it. LOL). However, since less than 9 cleared Stage 2 they never did it. It was questionable if it was going to be used (Inui swears he wanted to use it) but we'll never know if he was going to be overruled by TBS. Ultimately it did what he wanted which was scare the crap out of everyone by having that. He's tired of people being "used to" the course and lackidasily showing up to the course without respecting it. That way it instills in the competitors to expect the unexpected.

So, let me get this straight. Inui was trying to scare everybody by making a head-to-head Second Stage that cut the field down if too many people beat Stage 2 (like that god awful Brain Ship Stage in VIKING between the First and Second Stages) and ultimately it ended up supposedly getting rejected?
EDIT: I obviously don't approve of this, dumb idea if you ask me.

If more than 9 people cleared Stage 2, they would make the ones that cleared go through Stage 2b (to whittle the amount going into stage 3). Inui didn't build VIKING. He already split with Higuchi by that point and left Sasuke. It was built and ready to go so it wasn't "rejected". The qualifier for it was more than 9 and we already know Stage 2 (normal) decimated the 27 Stage 1 clears.

Thanks for putting it into perspective. For the record i don't hate VIKING, I just hated the Brain Ship Stage just to clear that up.

I only mentioned that because people confuse when Inui was part of Sasuke. He was gone by the time Viking was around. While some of his staff has been there for the years during M9's reign (and would know and use VIKING obstacles) Inui is not one of them. He's kinda sensitive about being tied to that show. I for one loved the show for it's quirkiness and Lord knows enough obstacles from THAT show ended up on Sasuke. Amazing when you think that it wasn't even a TBS show. LOL
