Now that we are officially counting down until taping day and will have a month and a half wait until it's officially aired.. I figured this would be a good place to start a new thread where we can discuss and share photos, articles, twitter feeds, Facebooks on Sasuke 31. As such, especially after taping day, there may be inadvertent spoilers. Lost in Ube and I cannot post anything as we will be there so it will have to come from you guys if you find it. Please use spoiler tags in that case anyway. As reported by TBS, the taping days for Sasuke 31 are May 23 and 24. If you do NOT want to know anything about spoilers it is best that you avoid this thread until the official airing. Once we have an official airing announcement there will be a separate post to alert those who are trying not to be spoiled to know when it is. Everyone please be courteous to each other when sharing information and please keep any spoilers or even potential spoilers in THIS thread only. For those only wishing to know about obstacles, once Inui or TBS start posting them I'm sure someone will start a thread just for it.

So far they are having marathon training sessions. I think just in the last week alone there were 5 separate ones.

Has there been any news from Bunpei and if he is competing? I know it is unlikely, but he seemed to be having fun and during his interview he said something along the lines of maybe he'll compete again.

To keep the discussion out of the news thread... Here's hoping Ryo is #100

Giggles. Apparently they came up with the list yesterday so the numbers are locked down. I'm sure for the next couple of week people's speculation is going to run rampant! I'm sure the competitors are just as curious! LOL

You hate him that much that you are blinded by the fact that he fits the current Rising precedent? Would Kawaguchi make a better fit? Or are you suggesting to put someone who hasn't been to the final in it's stead?

I'm full of crap, I'll watch no matter what, but Nagano will be 99 again with Ryo at 100, meanwhile the 2 time champ will end up with 93 again. I think that the best competitor should be 100 and if stage 1 is even a bit difficult, I wouldn't be surprised when Ryo fails it. But they'll cake walk him into the final again. Enjoy the show while you're there though.

The thing is though Yuuji has requested not to be a high number in the past, he doesn't like the pressure. IIRC Nagano didn't care for being #100 either.

LOL Nagano and the All-stars are trying to pull back their profile to allow the show to grow to the next generation and with Yuuji balking at the spotlight TBS is kinda in a predicament. I understand people's feelings against Ryo as he's really becoming stuck up but there's only so much they can do when their previous winner is aging and scaling back and their current champion is going through a confidence crisis. And thanks I hope to share as much of that journey with everyone while I'm there. I'm taking my new phone to help and I'm being allowed to borrow someone's laptop (so I won't have to pack mine) so I can blog/share what I can while I'm there.

Just want to add that Ryo doesn't adapt well to new obstacles as well. If he hasn't trained on it, he's shaky. That's my analysis on him. Hd did get screwed on the swimming and is the best on stage 3 though. But I wouldn't be surprised if Ryo is more popular than Yuuji to the casual viewer. I over exaggerated but you're right, I don't care for Ryo but I'll respect him if he wins. Would prefer to see Morimoto or Kawaguchi win over Ryo or Kishimoto or even Yuuji.

I'm curious if they are going to flip it and put Kawaguchi as #100. LOL Or Inui could light the fire under Ryo's butt and see how he does with the number since Yuuji couldn't handle it. Or TBS could just say "grow a pair" to Yuuji and just make him 100 and make him deal with it. Hard to tell. I know Inui likes to create stages to break the previous guys (so in this case would be all the Stage 3 post-cliffhanger clears) but since they argued for 4 hours over the numbers who knows what it will turn out. We'll find out shortly though. I'd love it if it was Kawaguchi or Morimoto though I doubt they will do Morimoto given he didn't get out of stage 2 the last time.

I will laugh so hard if #100 is a name you guys haven't mentioned yet *cough cough Shingo*. Also Glad you have a way to blog while you're in Japan. Have you found out when the list will be posted with the numbers?

Have you found out when the list will be posted with the numbers? That list won't be public until sometime after the taping. Online on their website they like to put the number with the mugshot photos taken during the taping. It was usually a couple weeks after taping (with last year being the exception since they had to decide wtf to do with Yamada). At worst it's a month after but still a couple weeks before airing. I'm sure the competitors will leak some photos but I'll be skewered if it originates from me.

To keep the discussion out of the news thread... Here's hoping Ryo is #100 I'll boycott if Ryo is 100. Nah, Ryo's probably my favourite out of the New-Stars, either him, Kanno or Asa anyway . For some reason I could never get behind Yuuji as much as these 3. Anyway I'd like to see the All-Stars continue to get 90's numbers, just lower 90's like maybe 90 for Takeda, 91 for Shingo and 92 for Nagano, it's only fair for them to get decent numbers after all they have done for the show over the years. I'm more interested to see which big name stars get demoted down the order to lower numbers, and I'd also love to see the Black Tigers do well and see a sort of New Stars vs Black Tigers vs All Stars friendly rivalry go on, although I think Yamada might need to recruit some lions to join his tigers if he wants them to do well this tournament Overall super hyped for this tournament, it's probably the first one where I'm not thinking that the All Stars should all reach Stage 3 every time and I've come to accept that just seeing them there is the main thing and if they make it to Stage 2/3/4 then it's a nice bonus I think this tournament will be very significant in that the new stars will all be shining this tournament as the all stars twinkle in the distance, and hopefully this will help bring a more modern feel to the tournament and hopefully good ratings

Also Hoo boy yeah the whole thing with #2934 last year was a bit of a doozy. I hope for good placings for everyone.
