Over the past 24 hours, major news has come out that have been in the works for at least a couple of years (possibly longer). TBS President went ahead and announced their plans to create a Sasuke World Cup. He didn't mention timeline or format, however he did confirm that it will be held at Midoriyama and run by TBS. As more information comes out I'll post whatever is publicly posted. There's a LOT going on in the background with this and the format has changed a few times but I'm excited. This will be an international event held and hosted by TBS at the same site that Sasuke normally records. They've learned the lessons from the previous failed attempts (we are looking at you ASEAN Open Cup) and after seeing the USA do a much smaller version on American soil, they are now confident that people will be interested in their version in Japan shifting the focus back to the original show which is still very much in existence. I'm excited because they are tying more things to Sasuke Japan giving it more relevance and importance. Should this work, Sasuke Japan (the numbered series) will continue for many years to come. This also will give an outlet to the foreigners that up to now have been either locked out or severely cut from the original show. Hopefully their plans will come to fruition and we see a different take on the Sasuke international front. Plans for this have changed a lot so it will be interesting to see what will become of this. My HOPE is that it will be within a year. First up is Sasuke 31 airing this summer and by now you all know the taping date for it since they announced that too in the past 24 hours. LOL Edit: Added blog.

Will the Americans get a 45 second handicap on the Third Stage again? Kidding...
In all seriousness, glad to hear that this is going forward. I'm very excited to see USA and Japan go toe-to-toe in a fair, unbiased competition that isn't thrown together at the last minute. Also, with Sweden and UK getting successful versions of the show, I'm hoping that we'll get some representatives from Europe (you know, that actually live in Europe).

Just waiting for NBC to try to puff their chest and lock out American competitors, even though a good portion of them would 'jump ship' at a moment's notice.

Just waiting for NBC to try to puff their chest and lock out American competitors, even though a good portion of them would 'jump ship' at a moment's notice. Yeah, I thought about this. It'll go down like this. NBC: "If you go compete on SASUKE World Cup you'll never be allowed to participate on ANW again!" Everyone: "Yeah, uh, we were only on ANW because there wasn't a SASUKE World Cup, so, uh, bye." I'd also like to point out that Drew Drechsel, who was originally brought on to ANW to cross-promote Jump City and had no idea about SASUKE going in, just three years later jumped ship to SASUKE basically at the expense of getting a wild card spot in Vegas.

I'll jump ship in a heartbeat. Getting to compete on Sasuke would be a dream come true.

Seriously NBC is just lazy and selfish not letting ANW competitors compete in Japan (except Drew). Somebody get G4 back and air this show.

This is great news. I'm pumped!! Can't wait to find out the details of the format. Will competitors be from a small set of selected countries (like USA Vs. World), or will it be a free-for-all by all interested competitors for spots? Will this be during/after Sasuke 32? If so, is this basically confirming Sasuke 32? Qualifiers? "Teams" or individual? Prize(s)? Ahh.. the questions are unending!!

Ooooooooh My questions were just as many! Right now it's still in the planning stages and still private. We are all surprised it was public to begin with. Just like anything brand new, plans change, delayed, etc. Heck.. Kunoichi revival was supposed to happen a couple of years ago, and we know how THAT went. LOL We'll just have to wait and see what is announced publicly. Hopefully now that the President spilled the beans we will get more details publicly. Given that Sasuke 31 is a month away it's clear that it will happen afterward, however how much after we don't know and we also don't know if it will happen before Sasuke 32. Given the previous problems with the ASEAN Open Cup changing Sasuke 29's format, I was assured something like that won't happen again. How that is translated is anyone's guess right now.

Fantastic news, had just read the TBS FB post about an hour ago actually. It's going to be so good with the top level competitors from all the countries, without the "only top x go through" (assuming they don't change it , hope they stick to Sasuke format ..) Looking forward to it
