Wonder if Okuyama will return. He did clear Stage 1 in 29.
He is retired. He broke his ankle during 29 and got surgery. He decided he won't compete anymore.. too many surgeries. Sorry I thought this was discussed already, it was a discussion around the time of the Sendai event.

Oh, that sucks. Still, at least he made the decision himself, and went out on a decently high note. Well, other than the broken ankle.

How did that happen?! I'll need to read that but I'm so sorry to hear that so late... I hope he's ok...
He's fine now but he took it as a sign to just let Sasuke go and not end up really screwed up. He dropped down from the circle slider funny onto the mat. Realized something was wrong but thought he just tweaked his ankle (Adrenaline is an awesome thing.. ). He did the Swap and even got to the pool and once he hit the water he instantly realized it was bad. He had surgery shortly after. He's back up and walking just fine now (he even did the Sendai event taking photos with fans). He's just not going to tempt fate anymore, he's already had reconstructive knee surgery at at 40 years old you don't bounce back that quickly.

You mean the cross slider right? First obstacle in stage 2? (this is really reminding me of a few other competitors getting injured on the first obstacle of a stage...)
Plus, age. At 45, his best SASUKE days are probably behind him unfortunately. In the earlier days of the show, a lot of the Finalists were in their 20s. Since at least SASUKE 17, the majority have been in their 30s (Nagasaki, Hashimoto, Kanno and Matachi being exceptions). Mileage (and of course sheer talent) makes a difference but for the most part, the male athletic peak is generally understood to be around the mid to late twenties. In the case of SASUKE, I'd like to think that being around that age plus the experience gained over the years adds up to someone who has a good chance of breaking through, either hitting the 3rd Stage or the Final but that's just speculation. As always, there are exceptions to every situation.
I'm sure that if Okuyama felt he was 100 percent he would like to try again but the chances of him repeating his past success would probably be not very high.

I expect to see Senor Sasuke trying out for Sasuke 31. EDIT Also since this was an off topic post I would like to add more by asking if there was any list of names of who was at the tryouts and if any noteworthy people tried out like Keita Tomino or any other Unlimited Cliffers tried out.

Yamada just doesn't know when to quit does he. It doesn't surprise me however. Will (oddly) wish him luck if he makes it in (though I slightly doubt it)

He's not applying.. he's there to cheer on the Tigers (as was written in the post). He did this every year so far.

Now that! Makes a lot more sense. Thanks for clarifying. Translations don't do it justice. O.O
He's a member of the new Shin Sedai and has been the most consistent competitor along with Kanno. I think he's set in terms of his place in the competition.
If someone is going to be an idiot.. I have the right to call them out for what they are. Lord knows everyone does it to me when I do it.
Inui sometimes goes out with some of the competitors, especially the Shin-Sedai ones. Anyway, according to an Inui tweet, the course alterations will be: Moderate for the 1st Stage Minor for the 2nd Stage No change to the 3rd Stage
