the year before I sell my soul rights to NBC. Has anyone confirmed that they've sent their submissions yet? (Referring to competitors) Jin hasn't yet but will (although we know he's already invited.. ) Other than that haven't heard anyone else yet.

XD Anyways You think we may get some of the former shin sedai in the action this time? Hashimoto is missed dang it! and maybe Jun Sato? I know last I knew of him he was in college but it's been about... 6 years or so? maybe less... 5 years. He should be out by now.

I've checked some facebooks and no competitors have said anything about sending theirs yet, but the entries did just come out a day ago.

Hashimoto is officially retired.. Not sure about Jun but remember that he was during the Monster 9 days. All of those from the past have to impress Inui now (especially if he doesn't know them) so just because people have passed the first stage in the past that doesn't mean anything to him. The requirements are much stricter and much closer to "casting" than ever before. He wants people with personalities and show well in TV. Jun never fit that mold sadly.

Not everyone can handle the sheer pressure of being labeled a star in television. The prying eyes and demands of the fans can affect gentle souls like Kouji and he felt the pressure so much he just couldn't bear it. So while people like me yelling at TBS for stripping him of the title, it was him that didn't want it and he wanted to fade into the background. But, we wouldn't let him, so he went away because he couldn't handle the expectation of living up to the title of a New Generation Star. I feel bad because I feel partly responsible for that one.

We all partially feel responsible... but the story is for another day. I'm only assuming the actual shin sedai will be in attendance as they have been since 27?

BTW, people who completed the course in Toyosu over the summer were promised at least a shot at appearing on the show. Inui was actually there a couple times so he may already have some people in mind.

BTW, people who completed the course in Toyosu over the summer were promised at least a shot at appearing on the show. Inui was actually there a couple times so he may already have some people in mind. Yeah. There was some conjecture as to HOW many of the list were going to Sasuke. Some rumors were only the top spot being guaranteed and the rest going to auditions with that weighed in. I'm only assuming the actual shin sedai will be in attendance as they have been since 27? The usual suspects are now known to the current production staff (All-stars, shin sedai and of course those who have participated during the Rising era) so there's less of "those" going back to auditions. Auditions are for the newer faces (or those who haven't been able to make themselves known to be TV caliber. The major problem with what goes on in Auditions (and Inui went to both Facebook and Twitter to voice the problem in detail) is that everyone is too "uniform". Unlike the past where you had personalized audition tapes and letters sent to TBS where you can see their personality in how they promoted themselves through their entry, everything is electronic now. So Inui's problem is a simple one. He writes "DESCRIBE" your job and people put "Student" or "salary man".. he had literally 100 of those one word answers in a row (some, former Stage 2 competitors) and he gets frustrated because they didn't answer the questions. They answer as if they are filling out a form instead of actually promoting themselves which after all is the POINT of an audition application. He said "describe" not "list" your occupation. So hopefully, those who have done well before, know how to promote themselves to this game show. This is after all a television event and personality plays a huge role to keep the casual audience. Each year they get more applications (last year was close to 3k) and so the list gets tighter as to who even GETS invited to auditions. Unlike the USA, there isn't a "walk on" line so if you don't get selected to go to auditions, your quest is over for that tourney. As for the Kouji thing, that's not unique.. take for example all the All-stars now on Facebook who are bombarded with comments (even positive ones), some every single day from a couple of people, that mount to added pressure whenever they foul up. Reminds of me of that Nagano interview they posted where he almost quit (again) because he knew he wasn't ready but he had a legion of fans all sending him well wishes. It takes a strong will to stand up to that kind of scrutiny. It just adds more weight to their shoulders. Heck, look at Yuuji, he's literally falling apart before our very eyes. That's why I don't use Facebook and when I do contact them it's for specific reasons and varied in between. I don't comment on everything, otherwise it's overwhelming. A simple like on pics, videos usually is enough to let them know we are there without going overboard.

Do we know yet how they are going to handle foreigners who have previously competed and performed well? For example, will Lee En Chih be allowed to compete?

There's never going to be an "international" option, and international applicant's that have successfully applied, have usually been within Japan for the entire duration of time between interviews/trials, and competition taping; paying all expenses out of pocket on their own. This. Right now any internationals are straight invites (like in the case of Drew in 30) and still up in the air for 31. Still a work in progress and very frustrating. There's stuff in the works in the background but impossible to know what's going to happen from now on. The only example of someone international would be like what happened with Jin where he works and lives in Japan and was invited to audition in the Tokyo area. As someone who lives in the US and doesn't speak Japanese, does it make sense to submit an application since technically, it is open to international competitors? Is there any shot at being considered? I'm intrigued by: There's stuff in the works in the background but impossible to know what's going to happen from now on. Maybe I should wait it out and see if anything happens.

Hmm complicated to answer because so many factors are involved. Chances are very slim in general for those who work and live outside of Japan. We aren't even sure about the Drew situation let alone anyone else outside of that circle. There is a general leaning towards keeping Japan as a local event (TBS' idea) but that's not ironed out. Trust me, this is a common question and I know they haven't even dealt with it yet. They know foreigners will try to enter (Some lied last year and made it to auditions - One Australian and one Taiwanese faking addresses) but Inui vows to be much stricter this time around as he is actively looking for cheaters. Lying in general on the ap won't endear yourself to him. That said, be honest about where you are from. The worst that happens is that they ignore it altogether. Doesn't hurt to send something electronically and it costs nothing. Chances are slim to none though. It's a huge problem.
As for Lee, I don't know. While Inui has major influence, he's not the one that does those specific invites. That's a direct TBS invite and it's up to them to decide what to do. For that matter so is Drew as they foot the bill for both.

Even still I'm happy that they do like their fans. This will compel them to return. Also about Yuuji I don't doubt it! He's got one big difference against everyone else. He's a 2-time grand champion! No one else is! So much pressure just got added... that may explain why Yuuji was digested twice in SASUKE 29 and 30... trying not to cause too much a scene... poor dear... hope he pulls through.

I wasn't expecting to be eligible to compete in 31 of course lol. I don't want to be in ANW at all either so I'm being.... patient.

I hope they at least allow Lee to compete. Even though he's a foreigner, he's still a veteran, and usually performs well. I'd like to see Drew again, too, but, even though he did well last time, he's only competed twice and only cleared the first stage once. Lee has competed--and cleared the first stage--many times.
