So fill in a noob... Is this basically Japan's Wrestlemania? This was covered at the end of page 1 and start of page 2 For someone who asked earlier about NJPW, Wrestle Kingdom is considered their biggest show although the final of the G1 Climax is one of the most important non-title single matches of the year. Winning the G1 Climax is more like the Money in the Bank briefcase without the anytime anywhere stipulation. The winner is guaranteed a title shot down the line (along with a trophy and giant check). Not just a title shot down the line, a title shot at their biggest show, Wrestle Kingdom (so their WrestleMania) which takes place every January 4th. EDIT: To go back to this point would comparing it to Royal Rumble be a fair way of describing it? Winning a title shot at the big show of the year, so that sounds fairly similar to how Royal Rumble wins you a world title shot at Wrestlemania

Derp. That part slipped my mind. Anyway, regarding "match of the year candidate", Okada/Styles is in a log jam at 4.5 stars with a few other matches ahead at 4.75 stars, at least according to Wrestling Observer Newsletter (who hands out the award). Fair warning, these people reeeeeeally like NJPW. profightdb.com/top-rated-matches.html?year=2014

Although NJPW puts on some excellent matches, including this year's G1, Dave Meltzer is NJPW's circlejerk poster boy.

If you notice in the Styles/Suzuki match, the crowd was all for Suzuki until he lands that punch at the end. They want to cheer for him but he'll always do something heeltastic that makes them boo him (at the Dontaku show I went to, it was handcuffing his opponent to the ropes).
Also, oddly enough, people are thinking that the next feud is going to be Suzuki-gun versus the Bullet Club, which would be yet another heel on heel feud.

This is one of the biggest promotions that doesn't exist Seriously I'll be more impressed when something actually starts instead of partnerships with a company that hasn't even really started... much less have any kind of TV deal (good luck with that)

I'd like to think that they only ice their thighs, because you're hear a slap for something as small as a kick to the gut. Then again, the Young Bucks use Superkicks as if they're the living embodiment of Hwaorang from Tekken. And since this thread is basically the New Japan thread at the moment, I knew there was a reason the Rainmaker is my current favorite finishing move: TIL Okada can break three baseball bats with it.

So who does everyone think will win the G1 Climax? I hope it is Kazuchika Okada but they apart from Suzuki (who I personally find a massive heel ) I don't mind who wins as I find almost all of them really cool and good in the ring, even Bad News Barrett rip off Bad Luck Fale!

The idea that Fale has 12 points astounds me. Suzuki is always my pick in spite of knowing he'll never win, but I think we get a repeat winner so that there's a way to get the belt off of Styles. Naito isn't going to be a back to back winner. I can see Nakamura winning G1 and Okada getting the belt back from Styles. I could also see the same happening, just swapping Okada and Nakamura.
EDIT: Now that Benjamin can't win, I really hope Honma gets his victory. That's Honma's last opponent in the official tournament.

Will be interesting to see what exactly it was he got fired for. Always sort of liked him but he never really fit in with the WWE style. His contract was up this year anyway and from what I've been reading about this, he was possibly not planning on renewing.

I think he would put on some great matches in NJPW but I see him ending up at AAA sadly It's a shame but at least Ziggler won't lose as many matches now

Word is that TNA is also interested in him. Could he be a Hail Mary effort to save TNA?

Better question, can TNA afford him in their current situation

The G1 Finals will be the top tier of CHAOS going at it. Leader "King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamaura (A Block winner) vs 2nd-in-command "Rainmaker" Kazuchika Okada (B Block winner).

Unless Alberto Del Rio lives his gimmick of being an ersatz Million Dollar Man and owns his own TV network, I don't really see how he'd be able to save TNA. Anyway, he got fired for slapping an employee who may or may not have said something that offended him. prowrestling.net/article.php?WWE-News-Alberto-Del-Rio-update-38386Okada and Nakamura haven't had a singles match in about two years (at the 2012 G1). Should be a good final. Okada doesn't have a singles win over Nakamura, I think.

Calling it now: Okada def. Nakamura and that match wins Match of the Year
