Awesome. Thanks a bunch for the translation. Hioki is quite the entertaining guy. Was a fan of him after Sasuke 29, and was really glad he got this far in 30.

Kazuma Asa waiting for his turn of the 3rd stage on the ground.
Asa: Kyo no ore, yabai-suyo. (It's bad today.)
Yabai-suyo, majide. (It's bad. I mean it.) (Means that he's very emotional today?)
Voice-over, narration
A landscaper, Kazuma Asa, two consecutive advances to the 3rd stage.
Yet he failed at Crazy Cliffhanger both times.
There is a Crazy Cliffhanger set he built at the rooftop of his house.
Asa: After the work, always one try (at it) except rainy days.
Only one shot you get at the real stage, at Sasuke, you know.
I thought that being able to clear it with one try is the most important point.
Yamada-san once said that what there would be beyond after all the effort you could put.
I'd like to know what I can find too.
Yuki (his girlfriend): When he cleared (his Cliffhanger), he sent me the video.
Voice-over, narration
The relationship with his girlfriend, Yuki started last spring.
Since then, she's been supporting his dedicated mind towards Sasuke.
She gives her hand-made lucky charms to him before Sasuke competitions.
Asa getting ready for his 3rd stage run
Voice-over, narration
Those lucky charms still have been in Asa's hands.
Asa: Yoshi. (OK)

Yes, Hioki has a nice character, a really nice guy, the manager of an appliance store. (Is the store her father's?) Was the best man for his marriage Shiratori? His wife is very beautiful, and he looks to be a nice family man. Anyway, he's beginning to stand out as a big character at Sasuke, which is good.

I was wondering, maybe I should change the comment Yuki said after Asa cleared the 2nd stage, "He was looking cool." to "He was looking handsome" since it's a girlfriend who's talking. Or you don't say "be looking"?

In that context, "He was looking cool" does just fine. Using "handsome" sounds like something an older woman would say, and as far as I know she looks younger than Asa. Also, Shiratori did speak at Hioki's wedding, but I'm not sure if he was the best man.
Also, another request: Hioki's speech after his 3rd stage failure.

OK, I'll do Hioki's speech after his 3rd stage failure. (Since there are many requests still remaining to be done, it will take time though.)

I have no idea how many Sasuke related books have been published in Japan, but I would send copies to Japanese publishers too. Japanese are always open to American things. Will do! I know TBS and Inui were interested (probably to make sure what I have written is correct) so we'll see. It won't be until 2015 though. My hope was to get to Japan and do interviews with the competitors so I'm hoping to be able to crowd fund that aspect of it. It's a lot of money though to travel there so I'm not too hopeful about that. I'll cross that bridge when I get there though. Working on a different project stateside first before I tackle anything abroad. That would be great. Ask the owner of this board about the crowd fund thing if you can put it on the board or not. I would tip in for you.

Right after Ryo Matachi cleared the 1st stage
Matachi: Kore ga Shinsedai da! [This is (the power of) Shinsedai.]
Asa: Yaru! yaru! (Awesome!)
Miki (his mother): Yaaa!
Matachi: Yoshaa! (Yeah!)
Nagano: Sugoi. Sugoi, sugoi. (Great)
(Looking at the cheering party of Matachi,) Omedetou gozaimasu. (Congratulations)
(Looking at Miki,) Okasan mo omedetou gozaimasu. [Congratulations to (Ryo's) mother, too.]

Yusuke Morimoto at the starting point of the 1st stage comments about #3000 given to him.
Morimoto: Well, I was given this number 3000. It's a big responsibility (to carry THE number).
At the same time, I'm really pleased that this number was handed to me.
Well, I'll try to relax and enjoy it.

The book project with a trip to Japan isn't in the works until probably early next year / late this year so I'll do a post when I know for sure when I can go live with that. Much appreciated! As for Shiratori, it is my understanding that anyone can give a toast at someone's wedding (and usually the list of people is fairly long) and he was one of them. He just happened to be Sasuke famous so we know him from that. They both live in Chiba Prefecture and as of now I don't know why he was at the wedding. I'll ask at some point when I'm done with the Sasuke blogs, etc. for Sasuke 30. I won't get to go back to finishing that until later this weekend as I'm out of town.

Intermission before starting the 2nd stage.
Voice-over, narration (the very end of the part)
This is the first 2nd stage in seven Sasuke competitions
since the last time three Sasuke All-stars advanced to the 2nd stage all together.
Takeda: It's first time in ages for me to advance to the 2nd stage.
So everything is new (to me).
Yamamoto: The difficulty level (of the 2nd stage) has been up a little bit again, you know.
So I have to fire myself up and attack.
Nagano: As for skin diving itself, it's my hobby, and I'm good at it.
But it's hard to go underwater when you are asked to do it
after you've done many things and are out of breath.
Voice-over, narration
These are two guys (Urushihara and Matachi) who have been eliminated at Backstream for the last two competition.
They've been busy in image training (for Backstream).
(Skipping Drew Drechsel's interview)
Asa: If I failed at the 2nd stage, honestly it would really mean for me that the whole year has come to nothing.
Morimoto: There is a responsibility for #3000. I have to roll up my sleeves.
Yamada: (Speaking to his disciple, Yamamoto,) You have no choice.
This is a burden (fate) that you have to carry for their hope.

Right after Masashi Hioki was eliminated from the competition at the 3rd stage
Mayumi (his wife): Demo sugoi. (Still amazing.)
Hioki: Oh, koreha suge-na. (It is tough.)
Interviewer: What do you want to say to your family now?
Hioki: I'd like to say "Arigatou" (Thank you).
Because I like Sasuke, started competing for Sasuke.
Because I wanted to be looking cool to her, started Sasuke.
She didn't laugh at me about it, but always supported me side by side.
Then we got married, have had kids, and was able to show, in front of my family, that I attacked the course,
especially the 3rd stage with my best effort.
I owe everything to my family.
Interviewer: Otsukare-sama deshita. (Good job. Thank you very much.)
Hioki: Arigatou gozaimashita. (Thank you very much.)

What's the difference between the interviewer's "thank you" and Hioki's "thank you"? Is one more formal/polite than the other?

I don't like single Unstable Bridge, either. yeah the unstable bridge isn't very necessary anymore. But still. The ruling will probably stand unless the SSL gets removed which I highly doubt will happen. But Yamamoto's reaction to stage 2 I couldn't agree more!

What's the difference between the interviewer's "thank you" and Hioki's "thank you"? Is one more formal/polite than the other? That's a good question. I never knew there're so many "Thank you" words in Japanese until this translation. So yes, the first one is a little more polite "Thank you" but situation dependent at the same time. When you say "Otsukare-sama deshita," it has to be at public space. You don't usually use that word at home. That literal meaning is "you're tired, sir". So in most cases, you use the word when you're with someone who's not your friend, and use it when you are about to part with that person / group of people. As for "Arigatou gozaimashita" (ありがとうございました), it's pretty standard, polite way to thank someone or some people, also showing gratitude when you part.

Interesting. I knew that Hioki's basic "arigatou gozaimashita" means "thank you" in Japanese, but I don't think I'd ever heard the interviewer's "thank you" before. Or, if I did (maybe on another Sasuke) I didn't know that's what was being said. Is the ending "shita" used when speaking to multiple people? I've seen that ending before (as opposed to just "gozaimasu"), and it seems like it is used when speaking to more than one person.
