So after seeing Ryo's Menko cards I searched and found a small unopened box on Amazon Japan. It's a box of ten packs (five cards each). But! The collector in me says "Don't open it! Who else has one of these?" On the other hand, I have no idea what cards are in there and there aren't many photos of the cards online. I leave it to the SMF community to decide if I should open the box or leave it as is. You have until I wake up tomorrow morning (8:00 AM Tuesday JST) to vote.

I personally want to know what's in them but that's just me. Unless you want to resell it at a higher price, a collectable item is there to be enjoyed. What's the point of having something still in the plastic unless you want to enjoy what's inside? IMO obviously.

Clearly there's no market for wrapped boxes of these, so I say you go for it.

You can still open the packages and keep the cards in mint condition by laminating or framing them. I say open and enjoy them.

NEVER laminate cards, that completely ruins the value... Card Sleeves are a complete different story if you can find them in that size, card sleeves are good, laminating is terrible EDIT: Don't quote me on this because I'm going based on the shot from the broadcast, but it looks like they'd fit in MtG/Pokemon size card sleeves

Didn't know that. Thanks for the trading card lesson
However, I doubt there's too much value in these cards anyway. To a fan they're priceless, no doubt. I was just thinking about ways to maximize enjoyment, not potential resell value.

Well these are probably VERY rare so you can just frame them so you can enjoy the cards and keep it in good condition.

Well these are probably VERY rare so you can just frame them so you can enjoy the cards and keep it in good condition. Yes, they are so rare that Ube found them on Amazon Japan with relative ease. Of course, there is the possibility that there wasn't a huge demand for them when they were released (or at the very least, the supply was higher than the demand), and therefore a lot of them are still unsold. Regardless of their rarity, I vote for Ube to open them. Also, does anyone know how many different cards there are, and which people appear on them? Also, any idea exactly when these cards were released? I'm guessing 2000 or 2001 (i.e. around the time of SASUKE 6 and SASUKE 7), and almost certainly before the end of 2002 (when Kinniku Banzuke was cancelled).

There were two series, produced between 2001-2003. Meaning they would have photos or people on Kinniku Banzuke from 2000-2002 most likely. 63 cards total in Series 2, mostly Sportsman No. 1 cards. I'm hoping to get that Kane Kosugi card Ryo had where he's doing the Pipe Slider in SASUKE 8 (he was wearing 91) but that might be from a different set as Kane had his own run of Menko cards.

The last set was too Pro Sportsman No. 1 centric (which i would have realized if I had looked at the box closely). So off to Rakuten I went and got the Kane Kosugi box.

Since I'm thinking of it now, have you gotten more Ube? I know I wanted to see that one Kane one where he was screaming clear (I think it was the 3rd from the left on the broadcast?

Unfortunately, the ones I got were a different series. There were two Kinniku Banzuke and two Kane sets and I got the boring versions of both.
