This might be moved to it's own forum in the future but it's finally happening. After the success of ASEAN Open this year the road continues to Vietnam. The only difference though is that the team behind it.. is different. Long story.. I'll spare you. No date that I can see but the team was present during Sasuke 30 to see the event and see how they can build their own. Once I get more stuff on it I'll write about it.

(nvm same article) Happening in Early Spring 2015. TBS is building the set completely (4 stage course like Sasuke) with Inui being hired to run it. Vietnam competitors only though so it's a domestic event. (not like the ASEAN 2014)

Good to hear it's 4 stages unlike Sasuke Singapore.... *shudders* Thing is Sasuke Singapore (and Sasuke Malaysia with the same course) were trials for Sasuke despite being aired as a series, Sasuke Singapore sounds like a full scale Sasuke replica (similar to ANW4-ANW6 without regionals is a better comparison)

Sorry for the bump (I'll take a warning for it if needed), but has there been any more news about this?

Nah shouldn't get a warning because the event is still happening.. just TBS hasn't posted anything. While not the massive problems that Malaysia had, they are still struggling to get it done. iirc taping is set for later this month or early next. A lot of details were still up in the air and at the time I spoke with him they were busy doing the New Year's stuff to devote brain cells to. iirc airing of this in Vietnam wont' be until around March anyway. So hopefully in the next couple of weeks we'll hear something.

I've been waiting like an absentee, short-attention-span-having HAWk the past few months for words on this to officially come out, and I think this is the first. Anybody know anything on the status of this comp? (Who's allowed in it, when it is\was)? Mcgrath and Kretsch say someone told them in Venice that it already happened... but I don't want to believe it

There's a thread on it and it's not updated for a reason. There's very little public information on it because it got delayed 4 times already. It hasn't happened though and if it works out, it will soon (before Sasuke 31). However, it's a closed event for Vietnam only (Sadly the Malaysia one was a 1 off ). Edit: I just read the article and they do confirm the end of April taping I've been hearing.

I think this should be merged into that other thread.

Thanks mods you rock! Also thanks Penguincatfish for the links which I admit I didn't open before when Mike provided the link (thanks Mike btw) to the story on the TBS site. I'll do an update on my blog along with other odds and ends. The taping is expected to take well over a week since they can only film at night (since it's so hot where they are planning on filming - similar to Vegas during the day). They are also not doing 100 people. The estimated is approximately 200-250 people doing the first stage so between that and it taping only at night they expect it's going to take about a week just to clear the first stage. I feel bad for Inui since he has to do that then run back to Japan for .. well.. you know. This isn't like like Malaysia where every ran an open course. It is strictly for Vietnam. But unlike Malaysia TBS was hired to do the course from the beginning. Their budget is low though (not as low as Malaysia but that had it's own issues) so it's probably not going to be as grand as they originally hoped when this thing should have taped last year. Edit: NOW I know why Inui was soooooo interested in specifically how Brian got hurt.. The feedback on what happened may have changed the landing for the X-bridge. (smaller version) Edit again: The course disparity between the two concepts is interesting. I'm curious if they are going for the concept art that's in color.. or the hand drawn mock ups. Because both are vastly different. NVM I'm an idiot.. No wait.. I wasn't an idiot.. On the concept photo you have Jumping Spider to Circle Slider on one side but the drawings have the Jumping Spider paired with the Hedgehog.. See? So which is it? Now I want to see more construction photos but it looks like they are still doing ditches. Finals isn't for another couple of weeks so we won't find out much for a bit. Interesting first stage.... edit again.. interesting concept.. strange seeing the HPA in the 2nd stage. I'm still fascinated by the split first stage. I haven't seen a split stage since Viking and that's going back 10 years.. Confirmed dates for the Finals April 26-May 6. Geez.. 10 days for filming.. Yikes. Oh and about 140 people from the 3 qualifiers listed on the link that Mike linked.

The three original qualifiers have finished. Hanoi - March 7-8; Da Nang - March 14-15; Ho Chi Minh City - March 19-20 From this April 1 announcement- sasukevietnam.vtv.vn/danh-sach-chinh-thuc-cac-thi-sinh-lot-vao-vck-sasuke-khong-gioi-han-tai-binh-duong/They've decided to add a fourth qualifier on April 24 which takes place over a single day just two days before taping. I think the final count will be more than the original 140, which may be why it wasn't mentioned. Taping is from April 26 - May 2 with the Final Stage on May 5. Stage 1 doesn't have a prize, but completing the other stages will - Stage 2 - 10 million / $464 Stage 3 - 30 million / $1391 Stage 4 - 800 million / $37097

Oh!!!!!! Really?? So there's 1 qualifier left? Awesome! (So that does confirm the number over 200-250 for the Finals). I also found this page with entry requirements. Btw confirmed that they did change the course at the split.

Just found those course renders and dirt pictures on the official Facebook page. No login needed. Anyway, I'm sure it's for citizens/residents only. The only foreigners featured on their Facebook are Aran from Brazil who teaches English in Da Nang, and Avinash from India who is a university student in Ho Chi Minh. The Excel file (http://sasukevietnam.vtv.vn/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Tong-hop-KQ-Sasuke-30.3.xlsx) and reformatted PDF (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/239504047/sasuke/DSCK-FBSasukeVN.pdf) display almost entirely Vietnamese names with exceptions being Aran, Avinash, and a guy named Ben whose last name is Vietnamese. It lists 395 names out of nearly 1,000. No idea what this means or if it's even final for those three regions - I'm going to assume it is. The Facebook comments mention 395 a bunch so I guess no one really knows. My theory is - since they're taking 7 days to tape the bulk of the course, and because Stage 1 and 2 look short and quick, they will zerg rush 400-500 people through Stage 1A, those who pass take on Stage 1B, and most of the remaining competitors will fall in Stage 2, leaving around 10 for Stage 3.

Cool thanks! I appreciate all of the detective work. It helped out a lot with the blog. I'm still confused about that Course A/B thing. Do they chose on the fly like in Viking? I can't ask anymore since he's in lockdown mode if you know what I mean. I did confirm that first stage will take a week. The analogy given was that even in regular Sasuke they do 100 people in 6-7 hours. They are doing more than twice that amount with an untested team (+TBS vets but the untested is the local TV crew that's producing it for Television in Vietnam). They are also not going all night. The theory is that 2nd stage won't be touched until at least 5 days in if they are lucky. I don't see them doing both sides of the course for all 200+ people. I see them choosing sides, however not sure what factor will decide that. I don't see anything on the description or anything on their site to suggest it's part of the rules. Also, this is a 4 stage course so I really don't see them rerunning Stage 1 twice. There's no point. Thanks also on the clarification on the foreigners. Makes sense too considering that all along I was told it's a local event. Even Sasuke is like that where a foreigner can still be on the show provided they are residents of Japan. Same theory here.

I wanted to add that one of our socal training buddies Ben Quan traveled to Vietnam in order to compete in this competition. He ran the qualifiers the week after Venice and passed so he'll be competing in the finals
