DARN TBS STOP REJECTING ATHLETES WHO WORK THEIR BUTT OFF AND ACCEPTING ONES THAT HAVE NO F***ING IDEA OF SASUKE! I HAVE A FEELING THEY R MAKING IT EASY ON PURPOSE SO NEW COMPETITORS CAN HAVE A CHANCE! This is NOT my definition of SASUKE!

Welcome to the world of Casting. No offense to anyone who got shafted in this list but filling in just 100 spots is a bloody nightmare effort. I don't envy the position of the casting crew. It's bad enough sorting through 3000 applications, they also have to balance out the dozens of automatic wildcards (All-stars, talento, celebs, athletes) that aren't even on the audition list) AND and anniversary show where older competitors come back. This isn't ANW where they have several hundred slots in prelims. It's just one show with 100. No one is ever going to be happy with the list. For each Bunpei that comes back, someone has to be cut. Also further confirmation that the Stage 1 automatic clears are now officially gone. Sasuke Rising is completely different.

I really hope this doesn't mean they have a cap on the number of people who can clear stage one. There's no cap. It means you have to prove yourself again rather than rest on your laurels. Getting some reports from auditions and even Inui's tweets on how the process has changed but people were getting lazy expecting that by their presence they should have been selected. He wants effort. So many people want to be on the show and they should be rewarded for putting in the effort and actually giving a damn. That's not to say that happened to Keitato. It was a general statement. In the past people would clear stage 1 then coast forever never improving. They put a stop to that by making them go through the auditions again. Seems the new standard is 2nd stage clear.

I've talked to a few competitors who failed on the second stage, and they all got a call to come back, so I'm a bit surprised about Keitaro. That being said though, these people did submit an application again, and wrote lots of "I've done ____ to make sure I can clear the second stage." I haven't met Keitaro yet so it may just be that he a. didn't submit an application this time, assuming he'd be coming back b. did submit one but didn't write anything eye catching and it got lost in the sea of applications.
From what I've heard around the Sasuke community confirms what Arsenette said; Inui looks for effort and dedication. For example, the 100 pushups thing wasn't about the 100, but rather seeing if you can push yourself past your limit and show extra effort. One thing that was looked for was if your form deteriorated and if you at least tried to maintain a good form or just if you did pushups with your legs dragging on the floor.
Having actually talked to Inui in person, I think that he's a great guy and his presence benefits Sasuke. Everyone needs to realize that the Sasuke staff is hilariously small, the budget of the show is miniscule, there are more Kanzenseiha level participants than we realize, and that Sasuke is an entertainment show and not an actual sporting event. You really can't fault the guy for anything given these constraints. Of course you can be petty because someone you wanted to see on the show wasn't on there (I know two who are good friends of mine) or there was something about the way the show is run that you don't like, but once you consider all of the constraints on the show, no one can do a better job.
As my friend Harold used to jokingly say when we had to make those stupid video projects in high school and someone complained about the quality and suggested we do it again, "BUDGET!" (waves fist).

Well put. Noticed TBS wrote an.. interesting post just today. Seems they paired the list down even further to 43 from the auditions because people just couldn't keep their mouth shut about being selected. (was 57 btw) Curious to hear what happened or if I read that wrong. Folks forget about this whole NDA business. I wonder if Ryoma got b**** slapped again for blabbing. LOL

Interesting 43+57 is 100. Could be a simple mistake? Hopefully... I feel bad if someone was in and then told "oh wait no, sorry".

Interesting 43+57 is 100. Could be a simple mistake? I think that's a coincidence really, if I'm reading that post right that just means 14 people got cut for blabbing. That does seem odd though... ANW takes their NDA very seriously but they still allow you to tell people that you competed

Could be translation error as well. Been trying to get that word translated and it still keeps coming up as "Leak". By context alone it appears the original thought of what that sentence meant still stands, however it could be just one of those words that didn't mean that. Either way similar to previous years we have more than half of the list being wildcards. I'm now focusing on being more curious who the wildcards are. As for NDA, that hasn't changed much from previous years, it's an honor code over there. No one has ever had to sign a document, it's implied you won't blab. Ryoma comes to mind of those who did in the past and were just deleted from the broadcast. Unsure how strict they are this time around. I just remember TBS saying 63 before.. then it went down to 57 then down to 43. One theory floating around was people had scheduling problems and had to drop thus causing that original number to drop. I think that coupled with a couple leaks could bring that number down significantly.

IMO there's no reason why fans can't ask for certain people to appear on the show. Otherwise they wouldn't know.. right? Why not ask them for specific people? Couldn't hurt.

It seems like the Sasuke staff are wanting the show to be presented as more of a sports challenge thing instead of a game show, yet they decline many serious competitors (Yoshida, Tada, Keitaro). I mean I understand what gives good ratings and whatnot, but it seems at this point that TBS doesn't care about ratings when it comes to Sasuke anymore. So what gives?

Besides, in doing so it's likely to heighten fans' interest, and possibly even create a larger domestic and international fanbase (probably more-so domestically due to the whole NBC issue, but my case stands nonetheless). Look how well that tactic has worked in drumming up interest for other forms of media (such as how the SSB4 designers have been heeding feedback from actual players on how they can improve from previous installments; pretty specific example, but it highlights my point of the difference which appealing to fans can make).

39 after the end of the Osaka audition. 66 after the Tokyo audition. 105 down to 57 (although I can't find a tweet for that) to 43. 57 to 43 is not only due to leaks but to people who could not attend for various reasons (合格してもいろいろ事情あって出場できなかった方).

I'll be the occasional Bunpei-reminder of this topic.
