any idea if akiyama has been confirmed yet? Not yet. Been trying to figure that out. Feel free to tweet Inui and/or Sasuke TBS and if any of them reply let us know! I know I've been bugging them. Edit: Inui got back to me on Twitter. He's not coming.

TADACHI NO INVITE??? That sucks so bad. He's got mad skills. Yeah, Tada is one of the best I've ever seen in terms of Sasuke ability. Inui did explain to me why certain people were picked over others, and I passed that info onto Tada. Basically, occupation is #1 in terms of being picked which is very understandable. If someone knows a little about Sasuke, they may not know who "Nagano" is, but I promise you they'll know who "the fisherman" is. Tada is still a "college student" (I think he's in a vocational school but it's basically equal) which is the most common occupation for applicants. If you just write "College student" Inui is probably going to read no further because there's hundreds of them. He said, it's not that we don't welcome college students, but everyone needs to write something to set them apart from the rest. The question about occupation on the application even says "be as specific as possible" because they're staring at printed text and want to see something special. For example: "Part time udon shop worker, captain of the cycling club, majoring in economics at Tokyo University" will easily get you picked over "Junior at Tokyo University." Hopefully Tada can come up with a way to fluff his occupation up and be picked to compete next time because I genuinely think he can tear through all four stages.

I remember Inui posting on twitter that he misses the old applications when they were forced to write in their entry and send it via snail mail. He could judge personality based on how they marketed themselves (their handwriting, how much information is sent and even if they sent videos/pictures). The new process has everything being sent electronically so all he has to do is print them all out and place them by region. So as you can see above.. there's not much variety in this process. You have a bunch of text that looks identical after a while. So usually they go by occupation, place those in a pile (like not inviting 15 different fire fighters, etc. or in this case all college students) and then sift through history, ability and even personality. Those who already have a history (someone who cleared stage 1 in the past for example) would be given priority over someone they have never seen. Simply, if they don't know who you are, or you do nothing to stand out, or haven't shown any commitment, progress or even passion then they would just pass the paper over and go to the next one. I feel bad for Tada. I swear if the process was the same as it was years ago he'd be on the show again, however he hasn't made himself marketable to the new crew running the show these days. I hope that changes next time.

I wonder if now that he's in Inui's head that he won't be an alternate or something along those lines.

If someone knows a little about Sasuke, they may not know who "Nagano" is, but I promise you they'll know who "the fisherman" is. Exactly. My mom refers to Akiyama as "the blind guy" ANW and Sasuke aren't so different after all when it comes to their acception process.

Even my parents know "the fisherman". I've tried to explain Yuuji to them but I don't think they remember. This is also probably why there were the stupid Japanese nicknames, because people are more likely to remember "The Godfather" than Shingo Yamamoto.

This is also probably why there were the stupid Japanese nicknames, because people are more likely to remember "The Godfather" than Shingo Yamamoto. Most nicknames that stick usually refer to an attribute or history with people though "the fisherman" "the shoe salesman" "the blind guy" "The fireman" "Mr. Octopus" "Mr. Sasuke" "Lucky bastard that got Bunpei at his wedding" "Gas station manager".. all either physical attributes or occupation or schtick. I think the only few names that will stick from the NBC ones are thing people can relate to when they see them. It's easy to spot "The Beast" (because damn.. look at him LOL), "Speed Demon" is going to probably stick but not sure if people will remember the name or the guy with the black "Sasuke" pants and war paint on his back that likes to scream. I honestly think the only name that will stick with the audience is Kanno's name "the Muscle". His whole schtick is how much he lift weights and is shirtless. The rest.. not so much because it's not a physical attribute or occupation. IMO obviously. And yes agreed that the process is very similar to that of any casting project when you are staring at 3000 applications all printed in the same font, same paper and same format. Inui spent 8 hours just pouring over the Tokyo auditions a week after he did Osaka's auditions. I swear if I stare at something that long all the text starts to mesh together. I agree with Inui.. I wish it was handwritten.. you can remember "oh the guy that posted in red block font with a picture of him on fire".. LOL

So I figured I'd mention that Bunpei's competing. BUNPEI! I mean I don't give a damn about the other 99 people, I'm watching for Bunpei then I'm leaving.
Ahem.
Anyway...

I was screaming in my chair for real. Shame Akiyama won't be there. 2006 will be the official last time all 6 All-stars were competing in the same tourney. I don't expect Bunpei to do well, he's still hurt, but it was really nice of him to come back after a personal request from Inui. I've been seeing a few pictures of him here and there (mostly Shun's twitter account) so it will be nice to see him with a number on him and competing. I'll milk that for what it's worth. Agreed, everything else in the tourney is gravy.

Will Akiyama at least be there? Unsure if he will be but I doubt he is. If he shows up he competes. To my knowledge there's never been a time where Akiyama showed up but not to compete. Maybe someone can ask Inui to clarify? He told me he's not participating. Audience member is another thing. As for Drew, yeah until I hear a confirmation (which I HOPE is true) no one else posted it in the news. I wish the whole team was going but the political drama between TBS and NBC is super thick right now and they were only gunning for Drew. I honestly hope the rumor is true but for now it's listed as rumor until otherwise noted by TBS/Inui or Drew himself. Can someone point blank ask him? I don't use Facebook and he doesn't write on Twitter unless it's to post something posted on Facebook.

The info showed up the same time as the miami regional, it's possible it did come from Drew. The source is still unknown but it's highly possible

Awesome! Thank you both! That would be great since NBC would have had to sign off on it and for future invites this is extremely important. Keeping fingers crossed.

In other news, Keitaro Yamamoto has been rejected and will not compete in SASUKE 30. Which means if you got screwed by the Backstream, too bad! No SASUKE 30 for you!
