We don't really have anything to go on other than the manner of David's post and that one reporter that was really excited. I suppose if you have to perform a Pipe Slider dismount from that new obstacle, it could take a lot of people out. A Stick Slider dismount could also take a lot of people out. We shall see...
EDIT: The number of people through the first stage doesn't necessarily correlate to how many people get to the third stage. There are a few people who are pretty much guaranteed to pass the second stage if they reach it.

I voted that David would make it to Stage 2, so everything is now up to fate and whatever happened on Monday to say what happened.
As for 2nd Stage auto-clears, I'd like to point out that Nagano is the closest you can get to an Auto-clear and he failed it in 20. Freak things can happen, and (being a statistician at heart) I think having 7 people in the stage gives a good enough probability that out of that number, SOMEONE is gonna beat it.

With 9 beating the first stage, I was a little disappointed there weren't as many people that passed Stage 2 as I was hoping for. Better yet I think the biggest surprise came when Levi fell, I couldn't believe it and it was exactly how Brian fell.

I think David can go far but that pipe slider thing looks pretty tough, so i have no clue were the dudes going, i would like to see 5 or 6 people clear the first stage that seems like a solid number.

On the bright side, if less people clear then the broadcast won't be so rushed.

From all the hints and suggestions that people have been saying, I can honestly say that I have ALSOLUTELY NO CLUE how well people did in Sasuke 22. I had a feeling that David failed in Stage 1 but doesn't feel too bad because a lot of people failed Stage 1 (like 19, or, heaven forbid, all 100 failed). But other people seem to be suggesting that a lot of people did well, especially the all-stars. I really can't make anything of it. I'm guessing there were a LOT of stage 1 failures, including David. How is 19 people failing first stage bad...? I meant Sasuke 19, sorry.

Well, I know one day that the course designers really want that "all 100 fail" thing to happen. Higuchi (who isn't even there this time) would want more passers than last tournament, I'm sure.

Not even 19 was an intended "all 100 fail" because Higuchi said he did not expect these results and expected 10 to 12 people would move to stage 2. His expectations and the course intentions might be two different things, though.

Like I said, I know Higuchi didn't expect so many failures. The design team wanted 100 failures. Higuchi usually always expects several passes so the fans could see more action.

Oh, right. Still, I kept thinking he thought differently from the rest of them. I just wonder how the rest of the design team felt after 19.
But we're leering off-topic...again.
