Per Inui's Facebook, SASUKE 30 is a go. Credit to Philip Scott on the screencap:

Am I excited? Definitely.
Am I apprehensive? For sure.
I'll stand firm with my opinion that Inui has NOT been good for Sasuke and I have little faith that he'll restore it to what it should be. I actually feel that Sasuke is in a good place currently (mediocre ratings with what seems like a shoestring budget), but I'm fearful that Inui could turn off SO many viewers that Sasuke isn't sustainable at all.
It will be very interesting to see how Sasuke 30 goes. I'm truly hoping for the best!

Mind expanding on that? I don't necessarily agree or disagree, I'm just curious why you think so.

I'm excited it's finally out in the open. It's been moved a couple times to accommodate a smooth first SAOC. Now they can concentrate on Sasuke 30. Been bugging him to make it an anniversary show.. we'll see if it works out. Current projections have it in a few months and not spring.
As for Inui being there. He's all that they have left. With Higuchi destroying Monster 9, TBS is lucky to even have Sasuke right now. By all accounts it should have died with M9 during bankruptcy. They only had a chance to save Sasuke. The others like Sportsman, etc are all gone.

This is awesome news! Hopefully the anniversary competition goes well! My primary concern regards how/if Inui plans to hede viewer feedback as a result of the past two tournaments. Specifically, I'm hoping that the Backstream is removed for the sake of more positive audience reception and better ratings (both of which may be more of an issue than usual for SASUKE IMO, as failing to meet either goal on an anniversary tournament may be an unrecoverable hit to its continuation). Also, forgive me if this has or has not been confirmed yet publicly, but do we know if certain foreigners who competed in SAOC will be in 30?

He hasn't said anything publicly yet about it. I'll be talking to him soon (as you can imagine being out of the country for 2 weeks his work is backlogged). I'm not sure what he's planning for 30 so please PLEASE ask for an Anniversary event.. even if it's just numbers. His original plan was to just have a normal one and not an anniversary event.
As for Backstream.. let's just say he makes his decisions and won't budge. As far as the backstream is concerned, none of the athletes subjected to it complained about it. That's what he's taking as feedback. Thanks to the support from SAOC basically keeping Sasuke Japan alive right now, and the fact that TBS is no longer worried about viewership, they plan to expand on other ideas on how to shape the show. I don't have details on that. Maybe he'll post more about it.

Also, that's good that TBS doesn't care about viewership anymore.

Am I the only one here who doesn't mind the Backstream? It's been known for a year and a half that you need to know how to swim. If you still can't, you aren't trying hard enough.*
*except for the jets in 29, that was just stupid

What's more evil on a course famous for telling its competitors to not get wet...by forcing it's competitors to get wet before lifting heavy objects.

Mind expanding on that? I don't necessarily agree or disagree, I'm just curious why you think so. M9 was in a rut for most of Shin-Sasuke and on. They never seemed able to pull off a Sasuke with a combination of a good course, good mix of competitors, good editing, and good advertising.
With Higuchi and the rest of M9 out, it was the perfect opportunity for Inui to come in, evaluate what worked, what didn't work, and get Sasuke back somewhat to its former glory.
What we got was more of the same: questionable obstacle/course design, terrible decisions regarding competitors (retire the All-Stars? What?!), shockingly bad editing, and virtually no advertising. I sincerely hope Inui really takes the time to study past Sasukes and re-learn what made them great (didn't he even work on some early Sasukes?)

That unfortunately is not Inui's issue. That's Kikuno's issue. He's the producer, not Inui. While Inui is the most visible he's hardly the one in charge. He's hired help just like all the directors before him. Even when Inui was around for 14 tournaments it was Higuchi in charge because he was producer. Inui now a strong voice when it comes to Sasuke, however Kikuno and TBS call all the shots. With them not even worrying about ratings anymore now that the spin offs are keeping Sasuke alive, there's no real incentive to be innovative anymore. That's something that's plaguing Japanese television as a whole though. Not just exclusive to TBS or even Sasuke. TBS of course is not helping the issue since they have no interest in investing in Sasuke or any of their shows. That's a problem that has been plaguing the company for several years now.

I personally can't wait until the revival of the US vs Nippon rivalry if there's even a smidgen of American competitors in the tournament based off SAOC.

Maybe today isn't so bad! Glad to hear that Sasuke is back, and as for the backstream, I love it. It's a good change for the course, and something original. Now if they just brought back wall lifting...

I feel like I should be more excited. Even this thread hasn't had great response like the last two tournaments.
