Sorry but I'm annoyed by that. It's like you didn't bother reading what was going on in the background or even knew their history. Or you forgot how Sasuke started. Don't make assumptions as to how I formulated my opinion. I am disappointed by the course. Simple. Edit. I also want to note that I wasn't expecting a course that could be fit for a Sasuke 30 or something of that nature, but the fact that an actual Sasuke competition was the prelims for this random assortment of obstacles is very odd to me. But this backwardness isn't even what bothers me. It's just the course as a whole.

But this backwardness isn't even what bothers me. It's just the course as a whole. I honestly have zero idea what you were expecting, especially since we had more than a year's warning. I'm honestly surprised it's as big as it is. They got TBS to do the obstacles and even Inui was there to supervise it. Hell they got more than even ANW who didn't bother even consulting with TBS on anything over the past several years. Japan is the powerhouse in the equation. Comparing Sasuke Japan to a fledgling organization that's last hosting competition was a small 2 stage course in the middle of a street festival 2 years ago with a shoestring budget is like expecting the Olympics from your local gym. It's just not happening. They don't have the manpower, experience or money to pull that off. Japan is even in this for several reasons, a) it's a spin off (just like ANC1-4 and ANW1-5). Do you remember ANC1-4? This course blows that away. b) the event is made with the 40 year anniversary of the ASEAN Organization's relationship with Japan. c) TBS and Sasuke Malaysia/ASEAN organization are providing that one last opportunity for other countries to come back into the event after G4 royally screwed over the foreigners by locking out the foreign entries. THIS at least is something they can build on to get that opportunity for those foreigners trying to get noticed by TBS for consideration to get into Sasuke Japan. That's something NBC is not interested in doing for Americans anymore and other countries don't have the capability of ever hosting themselves. Besides if you think this is ghetto wait for NWE when that gets off the ground. That's going to be much smaller than this. Anyway.. here's the blog for Day 2.

Least he's just disappointed by the course. I can understand that when you look at it the way he set out. But the qualifier that Yasuke got seems to have been more promotional then anything. It's put him over as the Sasuke Kid and given japan a reason why these 5 are THE 5 to send. I'm sure next year we will see different obstacle combinations anyway as the event grows. For now, bringing back all the favorite obstacles is a great way to hold their first event ever.

I'm just saying if I flew out there and tried to qualify for Sasuke and didn't, and that was the course I had to run, I'd be disappointed.

That part is pretty disappointing. Would be cool if they'd held like a muscle park like thing for people who didn't qualify so they can try the obstacles. Would be a good way to draw more of a crowd too.

Maybe this is a difficult concept to understand, but there is a lot more to participating than winning. Especially in this competition which is about people rejoicing in a common goal to do extraordinary things and reach personal heights. Any competitor, even the one who spent thousands of dollars to not qualify and sulks back home 'disappointed' has missed the point. The kind of cultural exchange must be thrilling for all of the participants, young, old, strong and weak alike--to spend just a little bit of time with others who share in your passion-- it must feel priceless.

If you want an international experiences or cultural exchange you can join the military, study abroad, or join the peace corp. Sure Malaysia is cool and exotic, but I'd be there to compete on a legit course, or a chance to get an invite to Sasuke. If I'd get neither opportunity, disappointment would be an understatement.

It's not about the international aspect, it's about the camaraderie which is the heart of this sport. As you can see all the guys there are having a great time, probably the time of their lives. Look at Ryo. Guy isn't even competing. Having a blast though.

No one really said they wouldn't enjoy being there. If I was, I'm sure I'd be crazy excited. But since we're not there and all we get is to see these 8 obstacles. I'm sure you can understand and leave people to their own opinions about the course. Despite the history of this competition, it is now considered a growing sport and thus the competitive aspect is growing. Especially in this competition where it's really not everyone vs the course. It's everyone vs everyone else. Meeting your tv heroes would be sick. But it's not the ONLY reason some people are there.

Sasuke Malaysia's facebook has photos of people running today. There is a cameraman recording a stage 3 competitor but it could just be for the sasuke 30 navi or other promotional reasons. There doesn't appear to be people recording every run.

Something I have to remind myself is how diverse the fanbase is. People watch for completely different reasons. I remember having violent arguments with people I disagreed with but had to understand over the years that not everyone thinks the way I do. This is one of those times. This is also the reason why ANW is largely dismissed by hardcore Sasuke people like myself. It's this thought pattern. Dudesky and I are in agreement while the others are in agreement as a dissenting point of view. At this point I'll just agree to disagree. Those there seem to be having a great time and the Japanese invited are having a ball. Those who are being shown to TBS as potential Sasuke invites are more thrilled right now especially since they never had this chance before. Even if they didn't they still like THIS spirit over ANW's, which is why they flew halfway around the world to participate in the equivalent of a county fair. I applaud their support. This is literally the only thing keeping Sasuke Japan alive, otherwise the show would have been cancelled. Anyway moving on, something of note. We have results! Overall results: Jump: Drew Dreschel (USA) Wang Jun An (Taiwan) David Campbell (USA) Hang: Drew Dreschel (USA) Yuusuke Morimoto (Japan) Awg Mohd Hasnal Husna Bin Ahmad (Brunei) Power: Drew Dreschel (USA) Alan Connelly (USA) Kong Takahashi (Japan) Overall Top Times: Drew Dreschel (USA) Yuusuke Morimoto (Japan) Awg Mohd Hasnal Husna Bin Ahmad (Brunei) (incidentally the Brunei kid is the one featured in the hometown article) Each round got medals and overall winner got money (Rumor was something like 30k USA but that's unconfirmed) Drew Dreschel is the overall winner

Just got back from SAOC. The course was so-so, the scale was small, the weather was blazing hot, BUT the atmosphere was freaking awesome. Great camaraderie between the athletes. The foreigners never complained about the heat, instead, they just chose to enjoy themselves.
There was a break in between runs, where a mini party was held. Athletes showcased their moves; backflips, sommersaults, bboying, etc. I don't have a video of it, but there were many people who recorded it and probably will be posted on fb. It was a really amazing atmosphere despite the blazing heat
I lost my camera battery during the event. Unfortunately, I couldn't take any pics today, nor can I take them tomorrow. Sorry, arsenette.
Back to the event. This is how it works. The course is divided into 3 parts: Power(gallon throw, wall lift), Climb(devil steps, unstable bridge, globe grasp, cliffhanger) and Jump(spider walk, warped wall) The 100 contestants were divided into 3 groups, namely A,B and C, and divided further into sub-groups, A1, A2, A3 etc. Group A would start on the Climb, where sub groups A1, A2 would go first. After A1 and A2 have completed their runs, A3,A4 would go next. This continues until all members of the group has run the obstacle.
Group B started with the Jump and Group C started with the Power. After all members of the group have completed the obstacle, they would rotate the obstacles. Group A would go on to the Spider Walk, Group B, the gallon throw and Group C, devil steps. After all group members have ran the obstacle, they would move on to the remaining obstacle they haven't ran.

Does anyone know if an Australian made the top 106?

Does anyone know if an Australian made the top 106? Dunno. Ask in Sasuke Malaysia's or SAOC's Facebook. They have been answering questions and would really be the only ones to know the country make up.

I'm happy people enjoyed themselves. You can just call me Azhan, that's my real name. Well, part of it. I did manage to get these pics from my cousin. Team Japan warm up Part of the opening ceremony. Do you think he'll make it? The King has arrived! The place blew up. Everyone was screaming 'Nagano! Nagano! Nagano!' The king in a rare moment of awkwardness Just couldn't pass up this opportunity, could I? Could anyone? Part of the party that I mentioned earlier. He later went on to do some flips www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152258236324433&set=o.208325015852937&type=2&theater
