Per Ryo's Twitter, he has been hospitalized with a lung issue. He also mentioned an injury, so I imagine they're connected. It's looking like he won't be healed up in time for the next SASUKE.

Yikes. Hope it's primary and not secondary. If it's secondary, than this could be only the start of problems. On the other hand, it seems like recovery from pneumothorax is fairly simple. Judging from what the Wikipedia says about aftercare, it seems that he'd need several weeks of recovery before serious training, so depending on when filming starts for the next Sasuke...

Judging from what the Wikipedia says about aftercare, it seems that he'd need several weeks of recovery before serious training, so depending on when filming starts for the next Sasuke... Seems the cause he's telling his friends is too much underwater training.. he's trying to get better in the backstream (and any other swimming obstacles they may/may not have planned) and took too much air in his lungs holding his breath. At least from what I gather. Someone with much better translation skills can tackle what he wrote. Luckily for us Ryo's twitter is public so we can read his back comments. It was all this week where he discussed what's going on. For now he's in the hospital for another 2 weeks. He's got approximately a couple months to be back to 100% if the calculations are correct. Considering how sensitive the lungs are.. this could be problematic. I'm sure he'll keep us posted. In the meantime he seems to be going stir-crazy in the hospital so feel free to send him messages of encouragement. I'd suggest putting both English and Japanese in the same sentence.

If the backstream is in 30 I'll jump off an overpass. It's ridiculous how polarizing this obstacle is that you have to have special training for it. Everyone hates it. And Ryo's time on SASUKE is at risk.

Ryo is finally out of the hospital. Seems (if Google is correct) he stayed for 3 weeks and had to have surgery?

Sasuke 30 is a long way away. But ASEAN Cup is just around the corner! I don't think he'll have a chance to compete in that.

Someone sent me pics of what his surgery looked like (Since I don't have Facebook and it was a FB message - maybe someone can link it?). if he's ready to do anything let alone compete in Sasuke. Poor guy

He'll get better in the short amount of time. There are 2 FREAKING months until the ASEAN cup, so he'll be well and stronger than ever. This is what contestants have to do to conquer the obstacles. I'm STILL amazed at how surprised people are about this. That's 100% Sasuke!

I wouldn't be surprised if he goes down very early in ASEAN Cup. When you've really been out with a problem like that, it takes more than two months to recover the fitness one needs to be COMPETITIVE. Sure, it's not like he's running a marathon, but remember how many years it took for Ryo to be fit enough to put all of the pieces together just to clear the First Stage. It's going to be difficult to be able to go deep in a competition where smart athletes around the world are training to peak during the time of the event.
