The time limit seems a tad lenient, but I prefer the time being too high than it being too low, though I'm assuming its to cut competitors a break after the mass exodus of Stage 2 last year. ANW seems to have no rhyme or reason for digesting either. I know everyone is subject to being digested, but how do you digest the fastest time of the night, and even worse, say nothing about it being the fastest time of the night until the very end and even then, not make a big deal about it, when they can't shut up about it during qualifying? David Campbell was digested in the original 27 broadcast when he shattered the clock in Stage 1 I believe, but we still saw the graphic show his time as he cleared and even showed a close up of the time left on the clock and they definitely showed him on the ANW finals IIRC.
Hang Slider was an interesting idea with a iffy execution. Most of the competitors were strong enough to keep it from moving. It looked much cooler when Idoko was on it as it spun around (or rather he let it spin around). The island ride to the Double Salmon Ladder was neat, made me chuckle seeing it. Double Salmon Ladder was a killer as usual, I can't tell if anything was adjusted, but I wasn't that big of a fan of ANW's Salmon Ladder "look" (using a metal bar on metal rungs [I've always assumed it was that as opposed to it just being this year] and the rungs poking out further than the "source material" does [again, assuming because they look that way to me, though they looked less angled as well this year]) in the first place, but that's a moot thing.
So happy to see that the Balance Tank is infinitely better than last year's poor excuse, still don't agree with what looks to be soft padding around it and still believe the Sasuke design should be used (the "bumps" on the tank) but it's much better this year so I'm happy with it.
And Andres' fail on the Metal Spin in my opinion proves why it should be higher placed as opposed to essentially being level with the competitors. I agree that the landing appears to be more difficult than it should be, but no one's failed from that so no harm no foul? Though I feel making it higher (not impossibly high, just high enough so that when the chain stretches you don't have to worry about clipping the water. It should be either you make the grab and beat the obstacle or you don't and completely fall in because you couldn't hold on, not you held on, but your legs still touched the water.
I liked Stage 2 as a whole, especially because of the Balance Tank fix, the only things I thought were particularly bogus were the digesting of Finley and the Metal Spin, which I had an issue with since last year. Looking forward to the season finale next week (didn't see the commercial because thankfully my DVR didn't record past the hour and minute time but since I know who made it the farthest, it wouldn't have affected me too much, but I always have an issue with how their thought process of "let's show significant footage and ultimately spoil how far some make it in the stage because that's totally not what we're trying to convince you of watching").

You are right... metal rungs on the DSL rather then wood. How did I not notice that....
Apparently I need to build a metal salmon ladder. Does anyone know of a good scaffolding supply website? Perhaps this is a question better suited for a different section of the forum.
PS. I saw the previews for next week, don't watch it if you don't want major insight as to what happens.

I can't pinpoint it exactly, but there's something, or things, about this season that I just don't like.
Stage 2 went from being a poorly conceived and constructed stage that was too difficult in ANW4, to a poorly conceived and constructed stage that was too easy in ANW5.
The time limit was ridiculous; to go from 105 seconds in ANW4 to 125 seconds in ANW5 because of basically one obstacle change didn't make any sense.
The Hang Slider was a terrible idea of an obstacle; just build a proper Slider Drop.
With the Balance Tank, the track just seemed too short, and the tank itself seemed to go a little too slow; I don't know if it was a design or contestant thing.
The Metal Spin chains were too long and too low. Andres De La Rosa never should've been able to hang on after his hands slipped about 3 feet down the chain.
I am glad that they made Stage 2 brighter looking than how it was ANW4, and the Wall Lift was better than last year, although the walls seemed to be slightly higher off the ground than in SASUKE.
Last night's episode was painful for me to watch.

I dunno about vegas but I think just the rungs need to be metal, my memory may be off but something looked possibly wooden for the frame that holds the notches (besides the scaffolding it's mounted on). They're kinda like hollow rectangles of metal but yet are still sturdy despite the light feel (or as much feel as I got through the bar...). An important note though is they have a glossy paint on them... they were pretty shiny in the day EDIT: Actually one of my testing vids is good for ANW5 SL reference

I swear...do they just decide who gets fast-forwarded by dart board?

Why are people pissed about stuff being too easy? They fixed all the obstacles that they completely screwed up last year in Stage 2!

I swear...do they just decide who gets fast-forwarded by dart board? Seriously!!! I really wanted to see Casey's run because I missed it in Vargas and it was just insanely fast. And I can't even begin to explain how upset I am about my run, I really expected them to show it because so many other competitors told me it was the beast I'd ever looked on the course. Looks like I'm just gonna have to bug NBC/G4 for the footage or just cross my fingers and hope they put it on the ANW YouTube

NBC f***ing hates you. FYI, recap: City qualifiers: FF on G4 City finals: Full run on NBC (fastest time) 1st stage: Full run on G4 2nd stage: FF on NBC All four were clears. By a Japan veteran. What. The. F***.

That's disturbing.. I'm going to start calling James "Kouji Hashimoto" because TBS does that crap to him every time.

They hate others more than James . Honestly, it seems that if you don't have a sob story they can exaggerate, they don't want to show your run.

Its just me but this joe moravasky dude kind of annoys me hehe. He strikes me at being a bit more openly confident than the others, maybe. I don't mind so much because he has been able to, so far, put his money where his mouth is, so to speak. Also, he isn't nearly as cocky as, say, Noah Kaufman, or however you spell it.

Were you calling anyone out in particular or was that just a general statement?

Were you calling anyone out in particular or was that just a general statement? I think it was a reference to the fact that most of the people who got a competitor profile said that they would become the first American Ninja Warrior.

I think the main thing that stood out to me was the Metal Spin. It just seemed like even the chains or whatever they are that hangs down were a completely different material than Sasuke's. Which probably makes it easier. Especially how in Sasuke it actually kinda seemed it stretched when you jumped on to it, and it was a bit tad too close to the water.
And it confused the crap out of me when at the end they said James and Casey are going on as well. To me, my first thought was.. Did I miss an episode? Or did I miss there fast-forward? I even went back through the entire episode to make sure! That's the first time I've seen them do that before.

The metal spin in vegas is chains with a rubber tube over them (as opposed to a tight wrap around the chains in Japan), I don't think tgey have the bungee mount that they adopted early on in Japan.
But those tubes do not help at all... the Ring Chain (the original Circle Cross that they changed before qualifying was scheduled) had that same kind of tubed chain are pretty slippy (that might have been the humidity at the inner harbor but it felt harder than a vertical metal bar is to hold on to...)
