What even happened to Yuuji near the end? He looked to be going strong then stopped. Maybe he rushed the ending when he tried to grab the bar and as a result the current sent him back.
Either that or the current gets much stronger the closer you get to the end.

I have mixed feelings about the Backstream. In the history of SASUKE ( Well up until 27 I guess) your goal was to not fall in the water. And now you have to get in the water to clear. However, we would have saw many clears if it wasn't for the Backstream. Also, nobody ever said the defintion of SASUKE is "Stay out of the water or get eliminated". But falling in the water and losing has been a tradition. Overall, I think it should go.

I wondered that during the broadcast, so many just swam on top against the full force (strong!!) of the back curent, I'd love to know if they were told about it before hand, or just left to either a) randomly benefit or b) figure it out within a few seconds of getting into the BS tank (not like that had any time to play with !)

Everything is messed up about the obstacle. The concept, the execution, everything.
After watching the comparison video, I was reminded of Kunoichi 7 with the Log Jam + Flying Pillar combo. Early on, hardly anyone was making it to the Flying Pillar in time. But you could tell over time how much slower it was getting.

So I wasn't imagining things, the current did get reduced on the later runs ? Visably and audibly I thought it was, but sometimes hard to tell in the heat of the moment and with stream etc (video, not water!) - as far as I'm aware, the motor type noise you could hear when it was on closeup of the tank would have been whatever is generating the current, I thought it sounded different/quieter later on.

I think everyone realized it was a huge speed test and didn't have the breath to hold at that point so going under wasn't a great option
Also I'm a week + a couple days early to say this but honestly the Backstream should be replaced by the Circle Cross from ANW's Baltimore regional (with Metal Spin chains instead of ropes, Japan MS style and not ANW style like the "Ring Chain" (testing name before the rope switch) had). Good test in a speed stage, also grip and some endurance and strength test, just add 5-10 seconds to the clock

They should have at least given Shingo & Koji reruns after they modified the current.

They should keep the 130 second time limit . Then they would be able to have enough time to clear the backstream . But then the should have the sasuke 16 metal spin . This would level out the playing field coz its hard to catch the rope with wet hands

What about a second Metal Spin after the first. Wouldn't that be harder?

I'm surprised that nobody has yet mentioned the fact that 7 of the 9 former finalists who attempted 29's Second Stage failed due to either timing out on the Backstream itself or losing too much time while attempting the Backstream to make it through the Passing Wall quickly enough. I don't know about everyone else, but this gives me the impression that the Backstream was overdone this time around. I'm neutral on the matter of the obstacle remaining for future tournaments, but if it is to remain, it should at least be kept to an appropriate difficulty in conjunction with a considerably-more-lenient time limit.

Ok fine . Keep the time limit at 130 . But add in the skywalk before the backstream . This will be a reasonable stage 2 design . It would create a lot of nerve wrecking moments .

I say either increse the time limit by 10 seconds (to 100 seconds) or lessen the current of the backstream whilst keeping the time limit 90 seconds.

Anyone who wants the backstream out is a wuss it was a thing of beauty and more interesting than the reverse conveyer ever was. The problem was the time cut not the obstacle!

I would love to see the look on your face and your indignant cries of injustice if it was Nagano who got stopped at the rigged Backstream.

The Metal Spin has gotten boring... as much as I dislike the Backstream I'd rather keep it than bring back the MS...
I still say the Circle Cross would be great there, not even saying it out of bias for beasting the chain version
