Aw, that's too bad that you'll miss Shingo. But if you get on Sasuke, you'll probably meet him. I have a feeling that he and the other All-Stars will be allowed compete in Sasuke 29, regardless of their performance in the Trials. The reactions of the fans and the All-Stars themselves to the forced retirement have not been positive. Not allowing the All-Stars to compete--especially Shingo, who has been in every tournament, and is a fixture of Sasuke--would be a very bad idea. Ratings would almost certainly be very low.

So the trials are Saturday and Sunday? Just making sure. Yes the 27th and 28th. Maguro Festival is 28th and 29th which is why there was some confusion (especially with Shingo). I expect to not get much information since we know some of this will be televised so they will be very strict with NDA's. I'd love some pics but we'll see.

I just got another e-mail changing my day to Sunday, so it looks like I won't run into Shingo... I think because they plan on airing the trials, there was a note saying please have your cellphones turned off when you enter the area. I'm not sure if that means no pictures too. No pictures of the course is S.O.P. As arsenette said, people can get their photo opportunities in the parking lot or the rest areas. Releasing photos (that gave away info) and/or results was a good way to get the old producers to bring the hammer down on you: in one case, someone ran the course but released some info on his blog then got completely cut out of the show. I think it also later affected his attempts at getting back on (he eventually did). Trials are the 27th and 28th in Japan. Just an FYI for those not in Japan, the 29th is a national holiday, hence the Maguro Festival is the 28th and 29th.

Yes, although this year the "week" is split into two consecutive long weekends (27th to 29th, 3rd to 6th). For most people (and schools) the 30th to the 2nd are regular days.

Yeah, it's definitely luck of the draw on if golden week is a week or a few random days off. I have to teach at one of my elementary schools on the 1st, and if not for that I'd have a solid week off. There are a couple of very nice companies that give you the week off but like 99% of all places and schools rarely get the week off unless the calendar alignment happens to be perfect which is rare.
