I can't believe it! I went to an obstacle gym to practice salmon ladder, cliff hanger, quad steps an the warped wall.
I was making a few practice runs on the warped wall when my Achilles tendon ruptured. I trained do hard this last year in hopes to compete in ANW5. I had all the obstacles down and then 'SNAP'!
Im so disappointed.
Good luck to everyone else who gets in and make sure you stretch them ankles before doing explosive movements with them. Hope to see you guys next year.

This has apparently been happening more and more frequently lately. Are you guys trying to run up the wall with heel strike or something?
Good luck with your recovery. I've got about a bajillion injuries myself right now, none of which are that severe, luckily. Keep us updated if you can.

I use the balls of my feet for most of the force. I'm not sure but I don't think my heels even hit the warped wall. Here is a video of me doing a practice run up the warped wall. Gotta watch a few seconds of salmon ladder. Salmon ladder practice and warped wall warmups

It looks like your heel was touching on the first step. Also it looked like you were running at the wall instead of with it. For when you heal don't try to step like you're running up a vertical wall, think of it more like a ramp you're lightly stepping up and jump up. Sucks that that happens and hopefully you make a full recovery and get back on your game by ANW6 but with that clip I can definitely see how it happened :/

Hopefully I'll have learned to do it more gracefully by next year. Until then, I got some healing to do.

Yeah, that attempt looked a little rough. There's always next year, though. Did you ever find out how severe the injury is?

I see an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow morning for the complete diagnosis.
Guess I'm not training legs tomorrow.

The verdict is in...
Full rupture of my Achilles' tendon. 20 minute surgery on Tuesday. Full recovery in 4-6 months.
I'm going to come back stronger and faster than ever...I hope.

Jeff So sorry to hear that news brother. Very disappointing for you, I'm sure. We can all relate on some level, this wacky pursuit of ours is full of disappointment of various flavors (e.g. not getting invited, getting injured and not competing, getting injured and competing poorly, falling early, falling anywhere, not getting shown on TV). Heal strong, be patient, and come back next year. Your disappointment and recovery from this injury can be your story!

Has anyone even been accepted yet? I haven't heard anything (even though I can't do it). It would be nice to at least be told I was going to go.
I wish all of you guys well and hope to see you on TV. It wouldn't surprise me to see some new obstacles this year like the ones I saw in Sasuke 28 a few months ago.

I've heard of a few people getting some initial calls, but nothing that indicated a definite invitation.

And the greatest one of all... Waiting to be 21...
