Do you believe we will witness history and see the first American to complete the course?
I'd say depends on the obstacles. Especially if they put that crazy cliffhanger.

It's not only the obstacles that will be included, but also the construction of the obstacles. If they "puffify" the Spinning Bridge and Rolling Log or completely botch the design of the Ascending Climb or Salmon Ladder like last time, there's a good chance there will be fewer clears than there should be. I would hope the producers saw the flaws of last years course and will try to rectify those flaws this year, but maybe they were fully satisfied with the course and the results.

The Double Salmon Ladder had safety lines that changed performance of it. I dunno what was really wrong with the Hang Climbing, maybe the fact it had the solid backing instead of a clear one so you couldn't work out your plan for it after clearing the Cliffhanger. Also I don't think someone will win in ANW5. ANW6 maybe, I turn 21 before then *runs away*

I'm still hoping for David C. to atleast get to Stage 4.

The ANW version of the Ascending Climb just looked like "Let's randomly put artifacts here, here and maybe here." The Hang Climbing for me, had the best spacing.

Just for the record, the "Ascending Climb" is only what they called the Hang Climbing in Ninja Warrior 21-24, they used almost the real name for that version in ANW4

No, unless they rig it like last time...

No, unless they rig it like last time... They didn't rig it, rigging it would mean the outcome was determined before anything even happened... They just altered results and let the one person to make it to the end of Stage 2 move on despite being 1-3 seconds late... It was a false clear but it wasn't "rigged", time out or not, Brent was the only person to clear the Metal Spin and that's a fact...

I was actually pretty rustled when I heard about the whole controversy surrounding Brent's "clear", but in hindsight I'm glad they let him go on to stage 3 because it was entertaining As far as a total victory in ANW5, I vote yes if all the obstacles are the same as ANW4 (and they fix the minor bugs like the spinning balance tank).

People wear them because its a thin line of rubber is between them and their feet so they can actually feel beneath their feet.

No one will win.
I mean come on people. The closest person to ever make it that was an American was Kane freaking Kosugi. And that was in #9. The next closest was Travis Schroder in #4 When the course was actually easier. The fact that only one American has completely(David Campbell was able to get to the last part) finished the UCH says a lot. But if anyone can do it(get to the forth stage at least), my money is on one of the big names who have been to Japan before or Derek Nakamoto.

The safety lines on the Salmon Ladder weren't an issue, it was that the jumps were 14" instead of 12" so people just got tired. The Hang Climb was also set up harder than Japan, but the "problem" I'd say was that the holds had spray paint on them...(hopefully this time they'll just buy red holds).

Derek Nakamoto will be the first ANW competitor to clear all four stages-whether the ANW course or some modification. He has the prototype body mass/strength ratio to succeed-slightly short for an average American but with above-average musculature, meaning he can handle any obstacle without straining too much for later obstacles. Brent Steffensen is similar in attributes for ANW success but Derek N. is superior. I believe he would have passed the entire course last time had he cleared the metal spin. I am not necessarily saying he will win ANW5 (sorry for the hedge!), as experience is crucial (even Urushihara had to train constantly on replicates to succeed eventually in Sasuke 24 & 27-he was no "out-of-the blue" phenomena). But one day, soon, Derek will become what his idol Nagano is now-the man people think of when they hear "American Ninja Warrior" (as compared to Nagano and Sasuke-sorry Yuuji, that's just the way it is).

My money from someone on the east coast is Josh Estock. He's got a gymnastics & rock climbing background which is kinda unfair, lol. Here's a link to Alternate Routes last event in March. You can see the individual stages, but if you're impatient, his 3rd stage run is at 6:55.

Last jump on the Salmon Ladder in Japan is 18" ....in Vegas I THINK they were testing at 20" and then finally settled on 18" but kept the rest at 14"
