I know you have to be 21 but what month do you have to be 21 by, to be eligible to compete?

I think you just have to be 21 by the date of recording, I remember during ANW2 Oti talked to the staff about it because he wasn't 21 during the submission period but he would have been by the time it recorded.
So I recommend talking to casting about a solution.

Yeah, just talk to them. The casting people are always very nice and helpful, especially considering how many people they have to deal with day in and day out. Back in ANW2 when this happened to me, the guy I e-mailed told me he wasn't sure what I should do, so just lie on the application. I ended up just saying I was born one year earlier. It was never brought up at the competition, and if you do well, they'll get the correct date from you several times from your driver's license and all those forms you have to fill out on site.

That's a big relief. Assuming it's still around and airing around the same time, that'll be my situation. I've always wondered about that.

See I won't be 21 until July of next year so I'm debating whether to try next year

If you're 21 by the day of your run and you have the funds to travel and compete, I say go for it. Experience is extremely helpful, and you have more than a year to prepare anyway. That's plenty of time to get stronger, work on your cardio and do a few other little things.
