yeah i figure it's gotta be pre-september 1997 (Sasuke 's airdate). when i'm out cruising the net looking for soundtracks, things i haven't heard with a release year of 1997 take priority, followed by soundtracks i haven't heard released 1990-1996. i'm hoping to randomly stumble upon it.

Although the digest theme is probably from before September 27, 1997 (the aforementioned TBS airdate of SASUKE 1), due to a lack of video evidence we don't have definitive proof that it was used until SASUKE 2 (which aired on September 26, 1998). As a result, I've tried checking some OSTs before the latter airdate (albeit to no avail thus far).

It was used in SASUKE 1 initially as a replay theme. Later tournaments would end up using it solely for replays of competitors failing. Skip to 2:49.

I think you're confusing that theme (which we usually refer as the "Fail Replay" theme) with the one I'm referring to (see below). Although the "Fail Replay" theme was definitely used in SASUKE 1, the digest theme may not have been used until the next tournament. Regardless, unfortunately we still don't know the name of either song. Maybe the song might've been created by TBS themselves and not actually a part of any OST. To be honest, I very highly doubt they would arrange a single, original song for SASUKE that early in its history (especially one that's not even the main theme for the show). It wasn't until SASUKE 29 that a few original songs were made for the broadcast; prior to that tournament there was never a mention of anything similar, which has been backed up by the fact that every other piece used before then came from another source (anime, movie, TV show, video game, band, stock music, etc.). Even its unofficial main theme prior to SASUKE 29, "Yagyu-Gaiden", is borrowed from elsewhere.

It's probably all stock music---otherwise, I have no idea, unfortunately.

Kota Ibushi's Theme (31-)
Edit: I heard if this is right or not, but isn't this his theme in Chikara?

That's track 20, "Fight" off Mobile Suit Gundam 00 OST 2. By Kenji Kawaii which tournament was it used in? It was used in 33, specifically for/during the thing mentioned in spoiler tags. By the way, I'm fine with music used in 33 being posted here for now, as long as spoiler tags are used appropriately. However, if we do get a number of other songs used in 33 in this thread, I'll go ahead and move those posts to a new thread in the 33 board.

Btw was checking the master list.. didn't we already establish that Yuuji's theme is from Log Horizon?

I believe the master list you're looking at (the Google Docs one) was initially made before the more comprehensive, updated one was uploaded. This one doesn't account for Yuuji's new theme from Log Horizon, among a bunch of other songs. The newest one can be found elsewhere on the forum.

In 33, this song was used as Seiki Takasu's (#52) Stage 1 profile/intro theme.

VGM AKIRA found the extended version of the digest clear theme (still in low quality though and he somehow found a pic of {Spoiler}Jun Sato's 1st Stage clear with a timer). {Spoiler}

What would you guys say that SASUKE/KB used most frequently in the old days, anime/OVA or video game music?

I'd say anime/OVA music was much more common than video game music. They've also used songs from bands/orchestras (most of which are ones from Europe or Japan), television/movie soundtracks, and (more recently, i.e. the past 10 years or so) production music. They've also tended to use many songs by the same few composers, as well as songs from recently-released soundtracks with respect to the original airdate of said SASUKE/Kinniku Banzuke episode (for example, if a Kinniku Banzuke special aired in September of 2000, they'd most likely use a song from a soundtrack that came out in either spring or summer of 2000). However, most of the stuff that we're missing is likely obscure anime/OVA and/or video game music---much of which is extremely difficult to locate, even with the aid of music identification software (example: Shazam). Unfortunately, there are only other two ways to find this music otherwise: either recognize it from something you've watched/played, or manually go through said soundtracks. However, neither method is 100% reliable---it's infrequent that someone is familiar with an obscure anime/game (and even then might not remember every song from its soundtrack), and some obscure full anime/game soundtracks aren't possible to find online.
