Just got a reply from a representative. "Yes, we have your video and application. Thanks for checking. We will be letting people know if they have been selected to run starting this coming week. The southwest qualifying round will take place in Venice April 5-6" Come on man, that was at the top of the page...

I think the new system is eliminating Midwest and Midsouth regions and just moving them to the closest corner, I'm sure it's more technical state wise but that's what I figure, but with another course being built somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised to see a West/Central split (like maybe Venice and oh... Kansas City or some very central place like that) and two east coast locations.

I tweeted Matt Iseman and I heard back that he's not certain when they'll announce (he had previously tweeted that he thought they would announce today).
That said, we are pretty confirmed for Venice Beach - April 4-6 Baltimore - April 18-20
I am in Baltimore today, and it is snowing.
I also have pretty decent intel that one of the other two cities will be in Texas. Probably Dallas, maybe (not likely) Austin.

We actually had snow stick here in Oklahoma overnight. 'Twas just a heavy dusting, but it was 87 just a few days before. Sheesh.
Dallas again would be kinda nice. My old college roommate lives in Plano, and I have family within decently short driving distance in Tyler, College Station, and Shreveport.

Dallas would be cool again - hoping for Kansas City though! I also heard a rumor about Denver?

I only saw Denver mentioned once, but I've seen Austin or Dallas (pretty much just "somewhere in Texas") several more times. I think Kansas City would be optimal for the most people, which is probably why it won't happen.

Is it open audience, or do you have to call in advance to get a spot?

David Campbell and James McGrath got their calls for Venice (so, NW + SW together confirmed for sure). 4th for interviews and such, 5th for qualifiers and 6th for regional finals.
From David:
Looks like the 7th is definitely out as one of the days.

What's confusing is whether they will keep the Southwest and Northwest regions, and have them competing in Venice, or whether "Venice" is sort of its own region. With everybody running the opening round on Day 1 at Venice it means there are probably fewer run spots than last year for the equivalent where they had a Day 1 for each of the SW and NW regions. They have said that there will be nighttime runs, so maybe that is their way of stuffing more runs into that first day. Still, has me nervous that there are fewer run spots this year than last year, and almost certainly more applicants given the exposure ANW has had the last year with it going to NBC, and them doing a "Best of 2012" run, and the Syfy and G4 marathons, etc. Yes, I am feeling neurotic!

It's a shame they are less organized this year.. last year before the applications were up we know where the hell these things were going to take place

Well if the sw and nw from last year are combined thats probably settling it for me as a walkon. Reason being 250 runners from last year + new addition and only i day(or night). Dont expect as many people running so hopefully they have walk ons cause i'll be in line starting wednesday if need be with friends

Yes, I am feeling neurotic! You're not the only one! David Campbell's comment that he heard there wouldn't be walkons has me freaked out, so I emailed casting. I'll be posting the instant (plus or minus a few milliseconds) I get a response. At least in my case, there's a nice bright side: the chiropractor visits totally paid off and I can walk (sit and lay down, too) without pain, plus I'm healthier than I've been in decades. Still getting stronger by the week (added another 25-30 lbs. on some of my lifts just since I recorded my tryout video), and still losing size from the fat going away. Next year, I should be at least half as awesome as other Ninja Dads like Matt and Kerry, which should cement a guaranteed invite. Plus, since I've managed to get a guarantee from work that I can take some time off around ANW time, I might be able to use it for Alpha Warrior instead if no walkons. Alpha Warrior is the best idea for a "travelling theme park" ever. Just wish it had started 20 years ago, and maybe I'd never have gotten into the shape I was in.

see with the fact that there is only a week till tryouts i expect people not to make it and usually they fill those spots with walk-ons, so i don't believe they'll get rid of it but it could easily be limited spots depending how many people they expect to run
