As some of you may recall from a few months ago, ProBoards announced a new version of the forums, and we opened a test copy of these forums on the version 5 servers. Well, the test is almost over and ProBoards is rolling out version 5 in the coming months, applying to all forums across their entire network on April 29th if not done so before hand. We have the ability to upgrade to version 5 now, but instead we are going to wait to apply version 5 to the forums on February 1st, ahead of the April 29th forced upgrade. The upgrade allows us to (hopefully) customize the boards a bit more than they have been able to previously, and will also allow us to install server-side plugins to help better manage the forums and help users out in their experience. [ Things to know about the upgrade ] - Mostly just style upgrades to the site, with few minor changes to layout. Everything should generally stay the same. - The web address (URL) will NOT change when the upgrade happens, so don't worry about losing the forums. - We will have more flexibility in the customization options after the upgrade than we do now, but we still won't have full control. Some things are going to remain out of our control. The core experience shouldn't change after the upgrade, but for anything that does, we will try to do everything we can to make sure things are fixed. We can't make promises because this is ProBoards' project, we're just going to go through with the upgrade before the forced upgrade in late April.

I assume that all of our posts will be archived? (i.e. all the posts/topics will still be here after the upgrade)

Posts won't be "archived" because nothing is going to happen to them. Everything's going to still be here, all that's really changing is added stuff and it's supposed to look "better" (different in my opinion).
Everything will still be here - all the categories, sections, topics, posts, users, etc.

A new "Sasuke Maniac" theme has been created and applied as the default forum theme. This will not overwrite anyone's theme settings, unless you were previously set to use the forum's default theme. The theme is meant to mimic the look and feel of the main SasukeManiac.com website, feedback is greatly appreciated.
On a side note, anyone else interested in removing the shoutbox, or am I the only one in that camp?

Sucks I lost a few posts thanks to the fact I'm up at night and post more after midnight.. LOL P.S. Now I see the shoutbox.. yeah.. get rid of what you can below this. It's busy enough as it is..

I definitely like the Sasuke Maniac layout. I was using the Green for the update as that looked the best to me, but I'm going to use this one now.

Regarding the "Recent Topics & Stories" box below the quick-reply box, we cannot get rid of this box as it is a part of the ads on ProBoards version 5, so that's something we're going to have to deal with. However, if anyone is interested in opting out of the personalized ads displayed in the "Related Topics & Stories" box, you can do so here. The ads ("Stories from around the web") will still be displayed unless someone purchases an ad-free option for the forums, but they will display non-personal ads if you opt-out. If an ad-free is purchased ($8.00 for 1 month or 50,000 pageviews, whichever comes first), then the "Stories from around the web" part of the "Related Topics & Stories" box disappears entirely.

On a side note, anyone else interested in removing the shoutbox, or am I the only one in that camp? I don't mind the Shoutbox, I actually kinda liked having a little place to put random comments that didn't warrant a whole thread... but I guess it wasn't really needed.

Btw.. I miss not having "Mark forum read"... Sometimes I don't want to check every single thread in a specific forum and constantly telling me there's new stuff. Any way to get that back?

It's still there, it's just hidden... See that pull down menu on the forums that say "Action"? Just select "mark board read" there...

I know it sounds fantastically stupid.. but I kinda liked seeing birthdays without having to do a "view" for it. Strange as it is I liked seeing that.. anyway that's my last suggestion of the day
