I think this is a good idea since I guess most people don't read the rules. When a thread is 2, 3, 4 years old why bother to post in it? (Unless to beat a previous bump record )

We'd have to go in manually and lock every old thread, as the only available options in the admin section allow for deleting of old threads, and we don't delete threads unless it's a duplicate or is a severe rule break.

Well most of the time it's a non-issue... I mean it's not like it happens every hour or something... When it happens it gets taken care of...

And, every once in a while, there is actually a legitimate reason for bumping an old thread (i.e. new information, an update, etc.)

Is there a way to warn (at least new) users that they will receive a warning if they bump topics older than 30 days?

We've gone through this so many times before. Right before a tournament we get an influx of new kids (and some I question their birthdates..) and then it dies down again until the next tournament. If nothing else their stupidity helps mods weed out the lazy idiots who didn't bother to read all of the notes and warnings created from those before them.
It would also help those to just use the "report thread" function privately instead of posting stupid pictures and making fun of who holds the bump record. That is just as annoying as the original necroed message. THAT should be banable material as well.

Exactly, and with Scnoi1217 and blt024 also co-managing the facebook page with me, we're seeing an increase in new users as we post more and more news relating to Rising/28. It would also help those to just use the "report thread" function privately instead of posting stupid pictures and making fun of who holds the bump record. That is just as annoying as the original necroed message. THAT should be bannable material as well. Please, please, use the report thread function. We've got a lot of threads going on for such a small community and it makes it a lot easier to manage potential violations with the "report thread" function. Personally, I don't think that posting in a thread after it's been necrobumped should warrant a ban, but a warning should certainly be applied.

For the new members, a warning and a link to the forum rules is what I do. If it persists, then they are gone.
