Get your spec on here. Your whos, whats and everything else.
First off, I think it's pretty clear that this will not be your father's SASUKE. It reads like TBS is trying to keep the name alive but also distance itself from the M9 era. Will that be good or bad? Who knows?
If they really want to shake things up, they should make EVERYBODY go through the qualification process. That includes Nagano and Yuuji.

I'm going to cross post this here from the news thread since I wanted to add something: The guy mentioned as chief producer, Hiroki Kikuno is a long time TBS producer, not a guy with a direct connection to Monster 9. However, he worked on Kinniku Banzuke and the later iterations of the show, both as a part of TBS and as a part of Dreamax Television. Dreamax came out of the TBS Sports Division and they produced several SASUKE and Sportsman No. 1 shows before Higuchi formed M9. (As a side note, I can't remember if Higuchi was at Dreamax or not).
When I put his name and Higuchi's name together in google, I get two things: information about ZONE, a sports documentary show Dreamax did and one random comment on 2ch which is hard to parse but it seems that Kikuno was a director for Kinniku Banzuke during the time of the Power Island accident (don't know if he was the actual director of the segment or not).
So, he has experience with sports variety, especially the TBS type, but it was a long time ago.
No other names seemed to be tied to the show yet.
From that info (head producer is an in-house guy) it seems like TBS owns SASUKE or if not, is in control of most of it. Also, until the Muscle Musical came along and sucked his attention away, Higuchi seemed a bit more hands on. Kikuno may have the same background (although he is Higuchi's junior) but he's been doing baseball and documentary stuff for a while. Hopefully Kikuno will bring in more recently experienced guys to help him. Hey, Katsumi Yamada needs a job.

I would like to see some old favorites come back for this revival.
Get some Shunsuke, Shiratori, and maybe even the Kousugi brothers.
Sure, chances range from non-existent to never-in-eternity, but it would be nice.

Has anyone even stated that it'll be 100 competitors?

Nothing yet, but for now it wouldn't hurt to assume old standards until further notice.

I really, really hope that most (if not all) of the elements from previous tournaments are retained. This includes rules, format, competitors, obstacle layout/objectives, and editing, to name a few. After all, if this change is similar to the Kunoichi 1-7 to Kunoichi 8 change, I'm sure many of us will be very disappointed.

www.tbs.co.jp/eng/programsales/news/en2012092710.htmlIf it were not for the overseas programming, it sounds like a whole different show. Like when a big movie studio gets their hands on a property that you love and then does..stuff...to...it (think TMNT@without, I believe, the parts about being teenage and mutants - something that is actually happening) It will be awesome if it sucks. I mean, that is not what I want but it would be something if it becomes this high profile flame-out.

I expect there to be changes but I don't expect something Kunoichi 8 level, TBS Kinda learned the hard way that was a mistake... I kind of expect this to be Sasuke with some more technical elements, more obstacles that would be similar to Banzuke events... Now that I think of it, what I have in mind sounds more like Sasuke is turning into a less death trap version of Viking.
I also expect some iconic obstacles to say, Soritatsu Kabe, some Cliffhanger, some Spider Walk, one of the existing log obstacles to return (I kind of expect Escargot)

As someone who was more positive about Kunoichi being re-imagined, I'm probably more optimistic than others, but as long as it's more Figure It Out-revival with minor modern changes and less "Ninja Turtles" Michael Bay reboot.

Also considering that one thing that was mentioned about trying to go to a sports format, I kind of expect a more serious tone in the air, and despite the fact it sounds like ratings hell I expect less celebs (excluding ones who have a legit shot like Kane Kosugi was)

I really hope the format stays the same.

I really hope the format stays the same. Me too.. but we'll have to see. My main concern are the entries while I'm sure you guys will be bitching about the obstacles LOL I just want the current format of 100 competitors competing individually in a 4 stage course with the competitors being mostly wildcards with a small percentage of trials competitors. That way the mix of vets will still be a part of the show while they raise the new competitors. Though.. they will be aiming for sports show.. so who knows when this will change..

I kinda expect this to be set up in a way that the All Stars and New Stars can still get to keep their spots, like if they're going to make this a sports so, I expect them to keep the "pros" of the "league"

I think the most realistic prediction is that everyone will have to go through the qualifiers (Including Nagano and Yuuji) and the course will not have a Kunoichi 8-style reboot.

We do not know what type of qualification process they will be using as of yet. It could be a trial or it could be an audition.
Crossposted from the news thread again: According to this tweet:
Sato Inui of production company FOLCOM will be directing SASUKE 28. Inui was a part of Dreamax until 2004 until he started FOLCOM, the company that produced DOORS. Inui took part in SASUKE, Kinniku Banzuke and Sportsman No.1 from those programs beginning until 2004. It has been eight years since he has done a SASUKE.

Considering he did old school Sasuke, I wouldn't be surprised if he re-makes some old obstacles (e.g. Big Boulder or Chain Reaction)

I wouldn't be surprised if motorized obstacles return (granted some new ones), that was the era of them (Ugokukabe, Goren Hammer, Gyakso Conveyer, Propeller Untei, hell, the Ensuitobi might have been an old design that got scrapped and then got used later).

Let's play "What Sim Sasuke obstacles are gonna be in Sasuke 28"!
I think at least 2 or 3. I should take a look at some of the obstacles.
