MAYDAY! MAYDAY! So I posted on here that at the ANW finals in Vegas, I'd given Nagano one of my DC Fire Dept shirts to give to Takeda, hoping that he'd then send one of his back my way. Well last night, my yahoo mail inbox BLEW up with like, 44 messages from takeda, with numbered subject lines (like "Thank you for the shirt. CIMG3331.JPG [28/44]". Only problem is, when I open them, there's nothing in them, or it'll say "this message has no content." When I click on the subject line for "search for message with same subject", it takes me to another screen that shows a partially translated message ("To Mr. Mike Bernardo. How do you do? My name is Toshihiro Takeda. The shirt obtained from Mr. Nagano. It wears at work. Thank you. I am sorry that I did not... ...") and then I can't read any more! Does anyone know what may have happened? Or how I can view the original message, and, what I'm assuming are 44 jpg images?!?!? HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEE!

There aren't even any attachments that I can see. Just the names of the e-mails have jpg at the end, and are numbered 1/44 - 44/44

Hmmmmm, this is tricky. My best bet would to temporarily (only for this) open a gmail account, forward these e-mails to your new gmail account and see if they come up differently there.

Wow, they really kick it old school in Japan. This used to be the technique used to upload binaries to USENET newsgroups. You might want to snoop around the Internet for how to join these files.

Sorry for the bump, but Takeda finally got back to me, albeit with a cryptic auto-translation. Still awesome to actually be communicating in some way, shape, or fashion with one of my heroes!
"To Mr. Mike Bernado How do you do, my name is Toshihiro Takeda. The shirt obtained from Mr. Nagano. It wears at work. Thank you. I am sorry that I did not reply to you very sooner. although participation to SASUKE cannot be performed -- from now on -- aid of SASUKE all stars -- I would appreciate your favor. I am performing the relief activity by helicopter now. I am looking forward to being able to meet by the day or Midoriyama of when. SASUKE 消防士 竹田敏浩"

I'm not sure if there ever even were any pics; it may have just been some kind of weird glitch. Perhaps in a future exchange! Keep me posted on the appearances my shirts make, though, and also if any of our tester footage that TBS shot pops up anywhere

The message was ambiguous enough to allow for who knows what, but it sounds like he's dedicating his time to aiding the tsunami/earthquake relief effort. Come on Sasuke 28... I MUST get over there!

Takeda is the baby He just turned 37 in May And no it's the type of job he's doing. He's a helicopter jumper but not in the tsunami region (although he was there for a few months last year immediately after the disaster). He's in Gifu which is middle of the country. The crew that makes his team is handpicked and it takes almost 2 years of certifications and whatnot to even make the team. Given how small the group is and how specialized they are he didn't think it would be in the best interest to injure himself in a game show while being employed in such a specialized field. He will however still go as a spectator. While I will miss him competing we do have to remember he has seriously injured himself during Sasuke so given how important this job is and how he cannot be replaced as easily (though both firefighting and heavy rescue are not "easy" replacements) I can see why he chose what he did. He's given us 10 awesome years

Brian I hate you.. I know it was a joke His worst was his shoulder injury falling into the final mat er.. was it Sasuke 12? Either way he already had dislocated his shoulder before and was already injured but falling into the mat with his arm up broke his shoulder. He's had other stuff but that was his big one that messed him up for a long time and even recently has had to tape his entire arm every single time he competed in Sasuke.

Do you have the message in Japanese pre-translation disaster? Negative, it was pre-mangled when I got it, unfortunately!
