Miis will be used to mark off personalized favorites for different family members in the same household, while the GamePad will let you control your DVR to record shows, set favorites, tweet your reactions to live moments on TV and more.
Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video and Tivo will each be integrated. "Bringing all of your services to one place," is how President Reggie Fils-Aime describes Nintendo TVii.
Nintendo TVii is included with every Wii U purchase, with no additional fees."- Nintendo claims strongest game lineup on a home console's Day 1 in the company's history - I believe Reggie said around 50 games released within Launch Window (November 18th - March 2013) Games Shown:Nintendo Land (included in Deluxe Set -- Launch Title) New Super Mario Bros. I will definitely get it eventually, but right now there are no games that I am that much interested in. Although The Wonderful 101 looks pretty good. I think I'll wait for a Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Smash, or F-Zero game.

Since I finally got a job (and might be able to reserve one for myself since they'll be selling them where I work ), I'll probably end up getting it eventually. I don't do much gaming anymore, but I'd like to have one by the time Super Smash Bros. 4 comes out (i.e. a year or two from now). The main 2 gripes I have about the Wii U are that it won't be able to play DVDs or Blu-Ray discs and that it won't be compatible with Gamecube games. I know that there will be an eShop similar to the Wii's Virtual Console service, but having to re-buy Gamecube games (albeit digitally) seems...unfair. The same goes for Gamecube memory cards---if I want to play these Gamecube games on the Wii U that I already have the discs and game data for, I'd have to start from scratch. Don't get me wrong, it's a neat thing to have to try out games you haven't played before, but for ones we've already had we might as well go back to the Wii or the Gamecube itself. Also, I hope that for the Wii U, you can save anything on the console externally (SD card, USB flash drive, etc.). It's so annoying that on the Wii, any game with online compatibility can't have its game data saved externally (such as is the case with SSBB). So yeah, I definitely have some concerns about lack of features on the Wii U, but overall it's probably something I'll get. Besides, if enough people have similar thoughts and concerns about the console, they might modify it to include some of these features.

Well you can transfer saves through system settings on Wii, but I kinda doubt they're going to allow external saves like that... I don't think Nintendo is that stupid, I mean you do realize the first Wii hack came from a save exploit, not to mention another one that came later on after they had corrected the Twilight Hack, and there's also one that uses a hacked brawl stage to create the buffer overflow. Granted I don't expect the WiiU to be hacked right away (hell, the 3DS is still somewhat of a mystery to hackers at this point, there is no hack yet, they're still figuring out how everything works really), but I don't think Nintendo is going to fall for it that easily...

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait... wait... everyone WAIT!! Hold the phone! Everyone in the world gets the WiiU before Japan!? BEFORE JAPAN!? FOR ALMOST AN ENTIRE MONTH! I... I.... I'm at a loss for words. I half-expected either a simultaneous worldwide launch (at best) or a few months delayed release everywhere outside Japan.

Get people outside the world to fix the bugs so they have a pristine release domestically. This is hardly new with things like games but a first for console. They are hiding something we don't know about yet. That's why I am no longer an early adopter. People forget the problems with the 3DS launch.. but people have short memories these days.

I actually enjoyed yesterday's presentation. I probably won't be getting it until 2013, but I like what I see.
A few points worth mentioning:
- Nintendo confirmed that Wii U games will cost $59.99 on average. Not surprising, but I personally would preferred if they stayed at $49.99.
- In addition, Nintendo confirmed that you can use any SD Card or USB external storage device for the Wii U. Nintendo will not force you to buy propitiatory hard drive upgrades. Reggie himself said that you can even attach a 3TB hard drive if you want. He also said he would love you if you filled if with downloadable content.
- I think it's actually unfair to say the Wii U should be able to play Gamecube games. The Gamecube was two generations ago and to expect the Wii U have both Wii and Gamecube hardware inside seems unnecessary and would only raise the cost of the system. If you really want to play Gamecube games, you can buy a Gamecube relatively cheap these days.
- I love how they announced Bayonetta 2. They got us to think they were going to talk about The Wonderful 101 (which looks awesome, btw) and BAM! Bayonetta 2 out of nowhere. It should be noted that Nintendo is the one to revive this game since Sega cancelled it a while ago.
The biggest reason I not going to get one right now is actually because of the 3DS. I bought a 3DS day 1 and about six months later they dropped the price. I want to see if they'll do that with the Wii U.
Also, I still have a massive backlog to beat, so I don't need more video games right now.

If you really want to play Gamecube games, you can buy a Gamecube relatively cheap these days. I have a GameCube, but I never owned a Wii. It would be nice if the WiiU had backwards compatibility to GameCube, but it's not a needed feature. It's more of one of convenience, especially for people that owned a lot of games for that system. But, I only own like 6 games for my GameCube, and none for Wii (obviously). Though personally, overall, I am a huge fan of backwards compatibility so as long as they can continue to do so (technically). But, that's me personally, seeing as how I've owned a PS1, PS2, and now a PS3, all of which are backwards compatible (except new models of PS3s), and that's quite good for someone like me who has a large library of PS1 and PS2 games.

The only reason I love my Wii so much is that I'm able to play all my favorite games, from NES to Gamecube and Wii. So while I'm excited to see the Wii U and what it's all about exactly, I won't be getting one any time soon.
Also waiting to see if the new Mario game's title will be Super Mario Universe.

Pre-ordered the Wii U Deluxe Set and New Super Mario Bros. U.

Speaking of preorders, I heard elsewhere that gamestop has closed pre-orders on the deluxe and running low on spots for the basic, apparently best buy is out of both and target is out of preorders for the deluxe as well...
Guessing this means I have to wait outside before opening just to even get one...

Didn't plan on getting one at launch anyway. Getting system at launch isn't that great in the first place, there's generally not enough good games til at least the first year.

Well I've been getting things on launch because usually when I want a console, it's impossible to find... had that problem with DS, Wii, to a lesser degree PS3...

Nintendo is notorious for their inflated demands because they don't actually make enough to begin with. It's almost as if they want to make it look like "zomg everyone wants one" just so they can print about it. Either that given we know there are bugs in the system they want ironed out for the Japan release that they are intentionally selling less so they don't have to fix so many broken ones.

Coincidentally, my Wii is having trouble playing games now (everything else seems to work fine, it's apparently just a problem with the lens...hopefully once I get a can of compressed air to clean out the dust inside, it'll be better, but if that doesn't work then this stinks... ). With that said, I wonder if there will be a way to transfer all Wii data onto the WiiU. It's probably unlikely, but just a thought.

Does Wii allow external USB use to transfer data? Since Wii U lets you use USB drives for extra memory. Aside from online purposes, there has to be some use for those USB ports on the Wii.
