Similar to The Anime & Manga Thread, and The Video Game Thread - it's time for a well-rounded center for the general discussion of movies and TV shows. And I'll start us off again... Just finished watching Ip Man, twas a great movie. Been told many times it was good and I need to watch it, but I finally got around to it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I like the movies produced by Sherwood Pictures. It's actually a church, Sherwood Baptist Church in Georgia, that's making these movies. There have been four so far. The most recent one is about to come out on DVD. They keep getting better and better. The first one, Flywheel, had the lowest production quality, because they only had a budget of $20,000. They used pretty much all of it on the camera crew. The actors in the movie are members of the church. Even with that, it was still pretty good quality, especially when you consider how small their budget was. The second movie, Facing the Giants, is my favorite. The other two are Fireproof and Courageous. Fireproof is the only movie where they had a professional actor. Kirk Cameron played the lead role. Courageous is the most recent one. I got to go see it in the theater about a week after it came out. It's about to be released on DVD.

I'm not really a movie buff (not at all, honestly), but my favorite movie ever is Napoleon Dynamite. It is just AMAZING.

Ip Man is defnitely an awesome movie. If you get the chance, watch Ip Man 2. It's just about as good and continues the story of Ip Man. It's because of these movies that got me into Wing Chun.

Random question, but this seems like the most appropriate thread to ask it in.
Does anyone know of a site that streams NHK? I was interested in watching their New Year's Eve show Kohaku Uta Gassen (it's apparently a showcase for top J-pop artists)
I already have Keyhole, but since we all know that sucks to high hell I was wondering if the SMF forum knew of any other services or sites streaming J-TV

Watched The Adjustment Bureau the other day. Good movie. His concession speech at the very beginning was really funny.

Saw The Artist a couple weeks ago in Landmark Theater. A black and white silent movie made in 2011? Easily my movie of the year for me.

I don't always watch television, but when I do... I prefer - Criminal Minds - Deadliest Catch - Dirty Jobs - Extreme Engineering - How I Met Your Mother - How It's Made - House - Human Weapon - Mega Disasters - Modern Marvels - MythBusters - The Ultimate Fighter - UFC Fight Night - UFC Unleashed
and a bunch of other random programming that might be on Discovery, Science, or History channels.

Mythbusters, Human Weapon, and UFC are awesome! In fact, I'm about to watch an episode of Mythbusters. For those of you who have Netflix, many of the Mythbusters episodes are available there.

Finished watching Game of Thrones Season 2 (A Clash of Kings). Favorite series on TV right now, probably favorite live action series overall now that I think about it. Completely engaged with the story and the characters, always wanting more. Haven't read any of the books, though I'm currently reading book 1. Eagerly awaiting Season 3: A Storm of Swords, Part 1.
While waiting for Game of Thrones Season 3 to air, I'm killing time with some other shows, currently watching The Newsroom with Jeff Daniels and Emily Mortimer. The first 8 minutes of the show is enough to hook you for the rest of the season. I'm not interested in politics or news that operates solely around politics, and this show kinda does that, but it's all wrapped up in such an amazing presentation and story that I can't stop watching it. Episode after episode. Great cast, great writing, and can't wait to see where it goes in Season 2.
As for movies, I saw The Dark Knight Rises on opening day (after Midnight release), and as a huge Batman fan, I damn near cried. I loved that movie. Favorite movie of the forever.
Recently got around to watching The Hunger Games now that it's on DVD/Blu-Ray. Was pretty good, some friends that read the books were satisfied with it's translation to screen. I was disappointed by the similarities to Battle Royale, but it was unique enough to stand alone without too much to drag the experience down for me (I'm a huge BR fan). Exceptionally happy (and a bit surprised) by the fact that they didn't give it the Twilight treatment and focus heavily on character (see: teen) relationships.
And, if you're a gamer, or a fan of documentaries, or both; you should check out Indie Game: The Movie. It's a damn good look into the world of independent game development and all the hard work and effort that goes into making games. Gives a lot of insight into the lives of game designers and programmers that are just everyday people that use video games as a medium to express themselves like some people would do with writing a novel or making a movie. Gives even people that don't like games, a better understanding and appreciation of video games. Now that I think about it, even if you don't like video games, watch this documentary anyway.

I didn't really like Dark Knight Rises. Too many plot holes and jacked up character motivations for me to really get invested, which detracted from my enjoyment of the movie. It was shot very well though.
I'm also a huge Battle Royale fan (specifically the manga).

(Are we allowed to talk about shows not related to ninja/sports/Japan?)
Any other TWD fans in the house??
If there's one show on TV that can outdo Sasuke / Ninja Warrior as my all-time favorite show, it's The Walking Dead. And not because of the zombies, or the gore, or anything like that. Because of the people, and the stories, and the emotions it brings up. I like imagining how people would act in a post-apocalyptic world, what they would do, what would become important to them, how they would adapt, etc., and I think TWD addresses a lot of those questions.

Yes just in General chat. Not "other shows" that are reserved for game shows and other obstacle courses.

I loved The Walking Dead right up until about Season 3, then I just got bored of it. I've tried watching season 4-6 on Netflix, but I'm just done with the show.
I'm currently watching Gotham season 3, Agents of Shield season 4, and Star Wars Rebels season 3; while waiting for Game of Thrones season 7 sometime next year. Just finished up Marvel's Luke Cage on Netflix, went through all 13 episodes in one binge the day it came out. I need to finish Marco Polo season 2, and start watching Narcos season 2.

I'm not generally a Television person myself, but I would say that i enjoy watching many anime series on youtube, one of them being 'prison school'. I also enjoy wathcing 'Adventure Time', and I would often draw illustrations of characters based on the artstyle.

There's this hot new tv series I watch called 'Sasuke'. It's basically a spinoff of Naruto, featuring the adventures of another main charcter.
G4 might be bringing it stateside soon.

Well TV wise I'm very picky on things like that. I mean obviously I watch Ninja Warrior and ANW whenever possible but they're not always on so what else do I watch? Well I do watch My Little Pony (Yes. I do mean it.), Big Time Rush, iCarly, Victorious... and that's about it. On my list of shows I still watch even though they're for little kids, there are 2 that are good. Lazytown and Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!. I was NEVER a fan of Dora. Sorry. But Blues Clues was fun UNTIL SHE STARTED TALKING.

I figure I'd make this thread because we have Sports,Wrestling,Music,Anime etc. So I figured it would be nice to add a TV thread. Here you can talk about anything regarding TV shows, Movies, series not on tv (YouTube Red, Netflix etc) So what about Cobra Kai. If you didn't watch my god it is great. The first 2 episodes are on YouTube and the cliffhanger is so great. You should give it a watch if you haven't. So for people who did watch it what do you think. Enjoy the TV thread.

Brooklyn Nine Nine got cancelled by FOX, turned down by Hulu, and got saved by NBC all within 48 hours. Whew.

So for people who did watch it what do you think. I thought it was absolutely fantastic. I was never a huge fan of the Karate Kid series originally, but they've got a good story and production, and I was seriously impressed by the whole thing. I'm looking forward to the next season and see where it takes the characters.
