Wow. Serious props go to this man. I did always say that if he could break through Stage 1 then he could really go all the way, and he very nearly did. It made me so happy to finally see him get the results he deserves from his training and abilities. As expected, he even looked pretty comfortable on the UCH... if only he were a stronger rope climber haha Hopefully he'll carry on in a similar way from now on, and will get some decent attention for both himself and finally for UNCLI as a whole

I was really hoping it was him who became the 4th champion

You and I both. Still, I reckon he could do it in the future, assuming he can continue to get past the First Stage. He's sure to practise rope climbing now at the very least

Like I said on Yuuji's run. I really thought it was going to be Ryo as the 4th champion. He did awesome either way though.

Keita was there the entire time supporting Ryo. You guys must be blind BTW, Ryo needs to send some thank you cards to Levi. He would've never passed stage 2 if not for him. I love Ryo and everything, and he showed how great he is, but I always felt like his head was never focused or in the game. Especially in stage 1. He seemed to be trotting around like it was a training session or something. Maybe he was having a hard time switching to the competition mindset. This is further enhanced by the fact that he never looked that nervous, at least in comparison to Nagano and Yuuji, lol. Maybe it's a good thing, I dunno. Anyway, by the time he got to stage 3 he was in it to win it. The moment I saw him pass the Sorikatsu Kabe I guessed he'd make it to the final stage.

I think Ryo could have gone all the way if he had improved rope climbing technique. Both he and Yuuji kept trying to pinch the rope with their ankles when they should have been able to lock their feet around the rope instead. That way you can save your arms and stand up with your legs.
If there's another tournament I hope he makes it all the way!

When ryo got to the bar glider and swung oddly I'm like o crap, but he did it! I mean it's not like he's 41 and that was his last shot (sorry okyuama!) but he's 22!

Both have trained extensively for that. Yuuji especially after he went SO SLOW in 22. People were making fun of him for how badly he did. So he stepped it up a notch, 10 notches.

I'm lucky I could notice competitors that early in the morning, much less anybody else (and I did notice most of the other cliffers). I agree with your assessment of Ryo's mindset. It reminded me of Yuuji's first few times, before the "zomg, I'm really here and got this far" turned into "oh sh!t, I can't stand the pressure and the nerves." Yuuji had his game face on after he passed the UCH, for sure.

Bada, They did great going up the rope. And Yuuji clearly improved. Even from his 24 run. So I'm not knocking their speed, but how they catch the rope with their ankles. They should be running the rope under their left foot, over the right, and then cinching their feet together so the rope has nowhere to go. That way they can stand up on the rope without needing to pull themselves with their arms. It saves their hands and their arms for when they reach high and grip for the next ascent. If you just pinch the rope with your ankles like they were you run the risk of sliding down the rope, which means you need to use your arms more than you should.

Didn't Nagano say one time that Ryo reminded him of himself and that if he ever passed the first stage he could achieve great things? I thought I remember reading that somewhere. But if he did say it, I guess it was true . Great work by Ryo. He was so close just tired at the end a bit.

He did AWESOME!!! I'm so happy for him after all the training he does and knowing how hard he prepares for the course. He deserves it!

I honestly thought he was going to go the furthest this tournament, and I was having major kittens when he cleared the third stage. Just shows what people can do if they can just make it over that first hurdle.

I was very happy for an all UNCLI final. I was hoping it was Ryo AND Yuuji winning There isn't a cap as to how many can win btw Still he did awesome! Poor thing was nervous out of his mind though.. he's painfully shy and getting that type of attention can be daunting. Nice kid too

I thought I should add in my two cents:
Ryo's run was incredible. While a little sloppy at times, he performed very well and it really shows how much his training paid off. Awesome job by him and he made the later 3rd Stage obstacles look easy.
