Okie dokie! As many of you know I started watching Sasuke 20 (and blogging) since March, 2008. Nothing could have prepared me for watching TBS for the first time. Outside of the language barrier there were a few things I had to get used to. Commercial breaks.. Unlike how the have them in the USA.. They are not at all patterned.. in the beginning of the broadcast you'd swear they went on for 45 minutes straight with no breaks.. (time your potty breaks.. LOL .. Pee before you watch.. trust me on this...) As the night wears on.. you see more.. and more.. and more commercials (usually perfectly timed with the 3rd stage making runs seem endless.. Also.. they don't wait until the run is over.. expect to be cut at any time.. "Someone is going down the flying shoot and".. ( BUY THIS CAR).. Takeda reaches to the Cliffhanger.. he's jumping and " THIS SPOT IS SPONSORED BY YAMADA CORP.".. "Yuuji is going up the final tower and "BUY ANOTHER CAR".. Shingo is about to dismount the HalfPipe Attack " DO YOU HAVE HEMORRHOIDS??" Get.. used to this.. trust me.. Oh.. and go with the flow.. some of these commercials are just as hilarious visually and I personally see is part of the entertainment of watching the whole program All in all have fun with the broadcast. Feel free to post any other observations you've encountered when watching TBS shows in contrast to what you are used to when watching TV. (passing popcorn)

As a warning, you know it's time to pee when the guy that sounds bored starts talking. He will sound like he's doing a documentary on toothpaste, or he's explaining the reason paint dries step by step, because he sounds that bored.

It's called gravitas. As opposed to the commentary which is all hyperbole.

So THATS how Katsumi its flat broke yet!
Anyways to try to stay ontopic. It may sound annoying as hell, but it truely makes for great TV. When a huge thing is about to happen and you dont know how it will turn out or a huge surprise, IE nagano 19, 22, 21, 23, 24. It'll put u on the edge of your seats!

One more thing: They will continue the run a little bit earlier compared to where they ended the run for the commercial. For instance, in 23 they had a commercial when Nagano is on the Heavenly Ladder somewhere close to the G-Rope. Then after the commercial Nagano was just about to start the Heavenly Ladder.
So for new viewers, don't get shocked when this happens. It happens A LOT.

Another thing...expect a crapload of replays when someone falls. And when I say a crapload, I MEAN a crapload. Seriously. "Aaaand..."*dude falls in the water* *replay* "MASAKAAAA #36 FAILS!" *replay* *replay* *replay* *slowmo replay* "And now with competitor #37."
Also, they do mess up with the order of runs a bit. Besides cutting runs (especially at the start), sometimes you'll see competitor #30, then competitor #88, then competitor #31.

Lets not forget the interviews! There will be lots of interviews wheather he/she fails/passes. With SASUKE 26 being a 3-hour program, there shouldn't be as many interviews and replays as in previous shin-sasuke tournaments. I'm glad they cut it down to 3 hours - of course, if it's because few competitors passed stages 1 and 2 then it's not good.

And don't forget the shots of the always interesting all-stars after anyone fails.

Nothing G4ish... only times you really see that happen is with Fast-Forwards or times where they don't show the competitor's number

Let us not forget the overly dramatic music when a vet/All-Star/Shin Sedai fails (or clears the 3rd but I doubt that will happen this tournament). At some point, you WILL end up emotional from it. See: Takeda after failing the Spider Flip in 24.

Other aspects that will be new:
The regulars each have different cool theme music playing when they first appear. Even regulars like Hang Gliding Man and The Octopus.
Unlike G4, it will not be structured so that each segment starts with all the guys who fail, followed by all the guys who clear. If #100 fails, then that's how the first round ends. There will be dramatic tension and release based on how well the field as a whole is doing.

This will be my first time watching it live - I sure am excited! But a bit nervous that the options for streaming aren't going to be reliable, or my computer isn't going to be reliable. We'll see...

If it means anything, from when I started watching live (23) there's never been a situation where EVERYONE got screwed over and couldn't watch. Our options (with the odd exception of course) tend to be as close to reliable as you can get without outright calling them reliable (I mean none of these options are 100%, but they're B+, A- -like IMO). I can't recall any overly drastic situation [/revisionist history]

Be Warned, streaming is usually not good quality except for those rare cases where we find a HQ version.

At the same time, we're lucky to get the chance to watch it live instead of waiting months for G4 (or for our international viewers + DirecTV subscribers, just getting the chance to watch it period), so you shouldn't "complain" because the quality isn't what you would like. Only Keyhole tends to have near-unwatchable quality.

I'm just saying. There are people who this is their first time and I'm telling them the quality will not be good. I've seen in past tournaments where first timers came in and were completely disappointed at the quality.
Most of us are content with it, but there are people who arn't.
