How old was Bunpei when he beat stage 1? Not only was he extremely old, but he was coming off of an injury and big hiatus as-well. Plus, that certainly wasn't an easy first stage, and it was only his second shin-Sasuke attempt.
Yamada isn't too much older than when Bunpei beat it, plus his body is still in the right shape to do it. He also has a lot of experience on the Shin-Sasuke course.
He CAN do it, he just needs all of the pieces to fall into place together for once.

Either way, if Bunpei can do it after coming off of a hiatus an injury, Yamada surely can do it if he conquers his mental demons.

Well yeah, it's not very likely. Possible though.

like the Yamada discussion. He just consistently screws up. I've always felt he needs to slim his upper body more he carries too much weight up top.
That aside there have been too many times in these 8 years here he's gone far in the first stage and failed only because of stupid mistakes. For instance clearing the warped wall but taking 8 seconds standing at the top of the chute. Then time's out by maybe 4 seconds. He has more than enough ABILITY and has continued to put out some strong 1st stage performances but just hasn't beaten it in forever. Onething I like is he seemed to live vicariously through others and enjoy their accomplishments more which in turn I think has made it easier for him to just go out there and try not to feel pressure.
Im not going to pretend he's great b/c he isn't but I also definitely see that he is still a good performer and can do real well at any tourny
