Yeah they did mention this during the extended application process and they still turned people away since they had too many. Just saw the update on twitter as well.

If Nagano being there is not enough for people, here is TBS (finally) acknowledging SASUKE Malaysia. The course was overseen by SASUKE Japan people. Still the vague wording about who will go, just that the person with the best record will come to Japan. It doesn't say that they have to complete the course. www.tbs.co.jp/hot-jyouhou/201105251607.html

Awesome thanks I am thinking if they see who is the better one or.. if there are several I don't put it out the realm of possibility that they will send more than 1. I personally hope they get more than one spot.. but it depends how good they are. They are safe saying just one right now.

Holy crap. That looks like a direct obstacle import. Is is possible they did that?
Anyway, looks awesome! Wish G4 would take notes...

All of this news on Sasuke Malaysia is really awesome, but I'm wondering if these trials are meant to serve some other purpose. Think about it. Sasuke became popular in the U.S.A. after they started broadcasting it as Ninja Warrior, then they sent a few representatives via ANC (19-22), now with ANW they're sending 10 people for every tournament they have these trials. Meanwhile, at the same time as Sasuke is gaining popularity in the U.S.A., Taiwan, Malaysia, etc., it's been losing its steam in Japan relatively quickly (over the past few years especially). Point blank, what I'm trying to get at is that might Sasuke be becoming more and more of an international competition/gathering event rather than being for nearly entirely the Japanese? After all, there doesn't seem to be much more time for Sasuke in JAPAN, but perhaps if they draw more attention from the rest of the world's Sasuke audience they can keep it alive in some (hopefully similar) shape or form? This is an opinion only, but who knows---the future of the show is pretty dim right now, and for all we know these international promotions and endorsements could be TBS's final hope for Sasuke.

I'm pretty sure it's just a result of the popularity of the show. If Sasuke has a greater international audience, it doesn't help TBS at all.

Agreed with Cole. While it's friggin' awesome that they are getting publicity.. it won't generate ratings in Japan by itself. That said, given that TBS/M9 has given 2 months notice on Sasuke 27 it "seems" that they are trying to do something to generate interest in Sasuke as a franchise. Something they have refused to do in the past year alone. Whether that translates to ratings back home remains to be seen. I'm actually happy how much publicity this is generating though.. even the Japan websites are posting about it... on their own.. not just the canned press release from TBS like they do with ANW. Maybe because the government is involved in this they have different angles to report? Either way it seems it just started so I expect some information overnight about the first day. If I find anything I'll post them as I find it and write a synopsis over the weekend.
To my knowledge they are going to post a video of this but doesn't seem to be a "live" event.
