The Variety article is basically the same as all the Japanese articles that are based on the TBS one minus the TBS/G4 self-admiration:
TOKYO -- NBC has skedded the hit Tokyo Broadcasting System sports gameshow "Sasuke" for a fall primetime spot, TBS announced on Wednesday.
The show, which launched in 1997, has been a consistent ratings winner ever since. Broadcast as a special on TBS, "Sasuke" challenges contestants of various sports backgrounds (or none at all) to clear a fiendishly difficult obstacle course.
It has been broadcast, in different versions, in 153 countries on five continents.
Known in the U.S. as "Ninja Warrior," the show bowed on the G4 cable station in October 2006 and became a cult hit. It generated a spin-off, "American Ninja Warrior," whose third incarnation is skedded for airing on G4 in 10 episodes starting in August.
NBS, however, is planning to broadcast the climax of 27th Japanese "Sasuke" on a yet unspecified date this fall.
Also, TBS and G4 are partnering to present "Ninja Warrior Japan Relief," a 50-hour marathon show for Japanese disaster relief skedded from April 29 to May 1, featuring the New Year's "Sasuke" show.

K so this weekend when they show Sasuke 26 (without the Americans) they will have a marathon for Japan relief. Seems Sasuke 27 will be shown sometimes this fall on NBC if I'm reading that correctly and ANW3 will be shown on G4 in August? Am I reading that right?
Edited: Cut and paste from what I wrote on the G4 forums: From the sounds of it.. Sasuke 26 will be shown on G4 this weekend (sans the Americans as we have been warned) and supposedly there is a Japan Relief marathon that I don't see advertised at all.. typical G4..
ANW3 will be aired in 10 parts in August on G4 it seems.
And Sasuke 27 will be shown on NBC sometime in the fall. This is the intriguing part. (Cutting and pasting from another thread) It's unclear what they plan to do on NBC this fall. Not sure if they will air a G4 version of 27 (NW chopped up version omitting the Americans whenever it's tied to ANW), the Sasuke version like Taiwan shows it (with just subtitles and deletion of sponsors with a new opening and closing) or if they plan to do a Viking version the way they did it in ESPN back when they showed Viking (as a friend of mine suggested). If it's a true NBC production they might do a whole different broadcast to suit their needs.. I'm almost afraid to see.. but I'll cast judgment later when I see it.

So Sasuke 27 will be the final Sasuke? And the winning bidder of this ebay auction gets to go to Japan? Confused! Unsure also what they meant by that.. if it is true then the original article back in January saying 27 was the final Sasuke is correct.

Well they used the word "climax" enough to hint it will be the last Sasuke, but why would they take the time to switch to NBC if there would be only one left? Re-runs don't exist in Japan, correct? It doesn't make much sense. Still very confused.
I have much more questions but I'll just wait to see if my mind can process what the hell is going on here.

NBC is now owned by Comcast so the connection makes sense now. Comcast owns and operates G4 as it is.

So in a way, G4 owns Sasuke now? No.. they never did. TBS in Japan Owns Sasuke. G4 only has USA first air rights. Being that NBC is also a Comcast company that means that NBC might be the next network to run Sasuke provided there is a 28. Unsure right now how G4 is going to handle this. We might see 2 versions of Sasuke 27.. NW version on G4 and NBC version on NBC. Right now I doubt NBC will show the sans-American version that G4 produces whenever there's an ANW attached to it. I would believe NBC will have their own crew doing this.

Ok, so am I getting this correctly? Airtimes: ANW3: August on G4 Sasuke 27: NBC in the fall NBC is owned by the same people that own G4 It's unclear what they plan to do on NBC this fall. So NBC is not a Japanese network? I am quite confused. Why would they change the format of the broadcast then?

Okay from the articles we can surmise a few things.
April 30-May 1 is a so called Marathon for Japan relief (no one has been talking about this so I have no idea wtf is going on). We DO know that Ninja Warrior 26 (Sans the Americans) will premiere on G4 (finally).. forget that the show was taped in October.. LOL.
ANW3 will be aired on G4 in August in 10 part episodes.
Sasuke 27 will be shown on NBC "sometime this fall".. which could mean anything from late September to December when it officially becomes winter..
NBC and G4 are owned by the same parent company - Comcast in the United States.
TBS Japan and Monster 9 own and produce the original Sasuke. NO hands are changing there. It's the American broadcaster that is either changing hands or are doing a joint venture. Fact though is that while G4 is a cable network (lowest rated in the country btw..) NBC is a national network (free to air) which a substantially larger audience - one of the top 3 in the country. The only thing Comcast owns in terms of Sasuke (whether it's NBC or G4) is the American broadcast rights of a Japanese produced show.
As for why I think the broadcast will change.. NBC produces their own shows with their own paid people. If they bought something they will put their own spin to it since it's their own broadcast. Every station does this. Just because they are owned by the same company doesn't mean they all share cast and crew. Besides.. NBC is premiering this show for the first time in network television. Meaning a brand new audience with no history of G4. They have to do a different broadcast to educate a whole new audience to this show.

No its definitely the American NBC. Ube talks about how could go up against NFL games in the Fall if they choose to show it on a Sunday in the fall.

Quick TV Stat to add to this: NBC's highest rated program is The Apprentice. With Trump announcing his candidacy for President, NBC is going to lose it's highest rated show. Plus, this is a new thing to add to the primetime lineup.

Plus, this is a new thing to add to the primetime lineup. All networks flip flop every season. Was like this when I was in NBC back in the 1990's.
