I know we don't know all the competitors yet but I think we know most likely the usual suspects. This is just for fun someone can make a more serious competition prediction thread nearer march. So couple things to predict firstly how many will clear each stage ? Write out EG S1 = 10 S2 = 8 S3 = 0 final = 0 Also for fun what changes do you predict will be made to the course if any?. IE S1 = 1 change ( pole maze replaced) S2 = 0 changes S3 = 0 changes finally although the line up isnt fully confirmed yet about these people who are most likely to be there how far will they get and what will do them in? Makoto Nagano - Toshihiro Takeda - Bunpei Shiratori - Shingo Yamamoto - Katsumi Yamada - Kazuhiko Akiyama - Daisuke Miyazaki (Mr hand ball) - Kenji Takahashi Yuji Washimi Paul Anthony - Jordan Jovtchev - Shinji Kobayashi (Garbage Man) - Minoru Kuramochi (The Octopus) - Masami Harashima (Hang Glider Man) - Yasuo Aoki Koriki Choshu - Naoki Iketani - Levi Meeuwenberg - Brian Orosco - Just for fun get us all excited in the lead up.

I'll start of course
NUmber of people who clear....
S1 = 8 S2 = 4 S3 = 1 FINAL = 0
Changes to the course
S1 = 1 change (Pole Maze replaced) S2= 1 change ( swing ladder changed) S3 = 0 changes
finally how far competitors will go...
Makoto Nagano - Final stage - fail final rope climb Toshihiro Takeda - gliding ring (S3) Bunpei Shiratori - devil steps (s3) Shingo Yamamoto - Salmon ladder (s2) Katsumi Yamada - warped wall time up(s1) Kazuhiko Akiyama - warped wall time up(s1) (assuming he comes out retirement. Daisuke Miyazaki (Mr hand ball) - salmon ladder(s2) Kenji Takahashi - flying chute (s1) Yuji Washimi - salmon ladder(s2) Paul Anthony - Jumping spider (s1) Jordan Jovtchev - Warped wall (s1) Shinji Kobayashi (Garbage Man) - Halfpipe attack (s1) Minoru Kuramochi (The Octopus) - Log grip(s1) Masami Harashima (Hang Glider Man) - Log grip (s1) Yasuo Aoki Koriki Choshu - Steps (s1) Naoki Iketani - salmon ladder (s2) Levi Meeuwenberg - Cliff Hanger (s3) Brian Orosco - Salmon ladder (s2)

Hmm, I'll just go for my gut instinct on everything...
S1 = 11 S2 = 6 S3 = 1 FINAL = 0
Changes to the course
S1 = 1 (Pole Maze) S2= 1 (Swing Ladder) S3 = 0
Makoto Nagano - Rope Climb (Final) Toshihiro Takeda - Gliding Ring (S3) Bunpei Shiratori - Cliff Hanger (S3) Shingo Yamamoto - Salmon Ladder (S2) Katsumi Yamada - Time up (S1) Kazuhiko Akiyama - Half Pipe Attack (S1) Daisuke Miyazaki (Mr hand ball) - Cliff Hanger (S3) Kenji Takahashi - Jumping Spider (S1) Yuji Washimi - ? (hard to say) Paul Anthony Terek - Jumping Spider (S1) Jordan Jovtchev - Flying Chute (S1) Shinji Kobayashi (Garbage Man) - Jumping Spider (S1) Minoru Kuramochi (The Octopus) - Sextuple Steps (S1) Masami Harashima (Hang Glider Man) - Log Grip (S1) Yasuo Aoki - Sextuple Steps (S1) Koriki Choshu - Sextuple Steps (S1) Naoki Iketani - Salmon Ladder (S2) Levi Meeuwenberg - Cliff Hanger (S3) Brian Orosco - ? So couple things to predict firstly how many will clear each stage ?
S1 = 5 S2 = 4 S3 = 2 final = 0
Also for fun what changes do you predict will be made to the course if any?.
IE
S1 = 2 changes (Pole Maze and Sextuple Steps) S2 = 1 change (Swing Ladder) S3 = 0 changes
finally although the line up isnt fully confirmed yet about these people who are most likely to be there how far will they get and what will do them in?
Makoto Nagano - Final Stage Fail Rope Climb Toshihiro Takeda - Third Stage Gliding Ring Bunpei Shiratori - 2nd Stage Salmon Ladder Shingo Yamamoto - Third Stage Cliff Hanger Katsumi Yamada - First Stage time out (tarzan rope) Kazuhiko Akiyama - 2nd stage Salmon Ladder (only because of the eyesight issue) Daisuke Miyazaki (Mr hand ball) - 1st Stage Warped Wall Kenji Takahashi - won't compete Yuji Washimi - First Stage Halfpipe Attack Paul Anthony - difficult Jordan Jovtchev - First Stage Flying Chute Shinji Kobayashi (Garbage Man) - First Stage Jumping Spider Minoru Kuramochi (The Octopus) - First Obstacle Masami Harashima (Hang Glider Man) - First Obstacle Yasuo Aoki - First Obstacle Koriki Choshu - First Obstacle Naoki Iketani - difficult Levi Meeuwenberg - Final Stage Rope Climb Brian Orosco - difficult

Stage 1 clear: 11 (Nagano, Takeda, Akiyama, Shiratori, Miyazaki, Levi, Brian, four others) Stage 2 clear: 4 (Nagano, Takeda, Miyazaki, Levi) Stage 3 clear: 0 Total Victory: 0
Stage 1 changes: 2 (Sextuple Steps, Pole Maze) -- Sextuple Steps might stay, but I think it's possible they'll be replaced for 22. Stage 2 changes: 1 (Swing Ladder) Stage 3 changes: 0
Makoto Nagano - Stage 3, Gliding Ring --- Specifically, he'll get to the end of the track and fall when he tries to jump to the finish platform.
Toshihiro Takeda - Stage 3, Ascending Climb
Bunpei Shiratori - Stage 2, Wall Lift (TO) --- Conditional on if he can get past the Salmon Ladder.
Shingo Yamamoto - Stage 1, Final Climb (TO)
Katsumi Yamada - Stage 1, Warped Wall (TO) --- Hopefully his injuries have gone away by then.
Kazuhiko Akiyama - Stage 2, Salmon Ladder --- As much as I want him to do well, I think Stage 2 being at night might prove to be his downfall.
Daisuke Miyazaki - Stage 3, Cliff Hanger
Kenji Takahashi - Stage 1, Halfpipe Attack
Yuji Washimi - Stage 1, Jumping Spider
Paul Anthony Terek - Not competing
Jordan Jovtchev - Not competing
Shinji Kobayashi - Stage 1, Jumping Spider
Minoru Kuramochi - Stage 1, 3rd obstacle
Masami Harashima - Stage 1, Log Grip
Yasuo Aoki - Stage 1, First obstacle
Koriki Choshu - Stage 1, Log Grip
Naoki Iketani - Stage 1, Flying Chute
Levi Meeuwenberg - Stage 3, Ascending Climb --- If he can make it back to Stage 3, I don't see him repeating the same mistake he made on the Cliff Hanger in 20.
Brian Orosco - Stage 2, Metal Spin --- Either this or TO on the Wall Lift.
EDIT 1/5/09: Changed Akiyama's prediction since he's planning to be there for 22.

Hmm...I'll do this too, just for fun. S1 = 9 S2 = 4 S3 = 1 S4 = 0
Changes: S1 = 1 or 2 (I think we all know which ones) S2 = 1 S3 = 0
Makoto Nagano: Final Stage Toshihiro Takeda: Gliding Ring (jump) Bunpei Shiratori: Devil Steps, maybe. Somewhere in first half of Stage 3. I don't see him TO'ing in Stage 2 because that time limit is still rather generous (unless you're Lee Enchi), and we know he can do the Salmon Ladder. Shingo Yamamoto: Goddammit, he's going to pass Stage 1. Salmon Ladder. Katsumi Yamada: Warped Wall...he's just not that great at it. Kazuhiko Akiyama: Warped Wall. Same reason. Daisuke Miyazaki: Shin-Cliffhanger. Kenji Takahashi: Flying Chute Yuji Washimi: Halfpipe Attack Paul Anthony Terek: no show Jordan Jovtchev: no show Shinji Kobayashi: Jumping Spider Minoru Kuramochi: if he shows up, then either 1st or 3rd obstacle. Masami Harashima: As usual, Log Grip. Yasuo Aoki: As usual, halfway through first obstacle. Koriki Choshu: If show, the first obstacle. Naoki Iketani: Flying Chute Levi Meeuwenberg: Shin-Cliffhanger Brian Orosco: Metal Spin.

This is what I think no changes to the three stages, (that is of course subject to change)
s1=0 s2=0 s3=0
Makoto Nagano - Final Stage (but fail at rope climb) Toshihiro Takeda - Final Stage (finally, but fail at rope climb) Bunpei Shiratori - Third Stage- Cliffhanger Shingo Yamamoto - Third Stage- Ascending Climb Katsumi Yamada - Third Stage- Cliffhanger Kazuhiko Akiyama - First Stage- He times out Daisuke Miyazaki (Mr hand ball) - Third Stage- Cliffhanger Kenji Takahashi- Third Stage- Cliffhanger Yuji Washimi-Second Stage- Salmon Ladder Paul Anthony Terek- if he there- Second Stage-Salmon Ladder Jordan Jovtchev - First Stage- Flying Chute Shinji Kobayashi (Garbage Man) - First Stage- Flying Chute Minoru Kuramochi (The Octopus) - Sextuple Steps Masami Harashima (Hang Glider Man) - sextuple Steps Yasuo Aoki Koriki Choshu - Sextuple Steps Naoki Iketani - Third Stage- Cliffhanger Levi Meeuwenberg - Third Stage- Final Ring Brian Orosco - Second Stage- Metal Spin
Shunsuke Nagasaki (if going)- Third Stage- Spider Flip Matsunaga- Salmon Ladder again Lee Em Chi- Cliffhanger or Spider Flip (remember he is a rock climber, could easily pass Ascending Climb, so that is why I put spider flip)
BONUS: If Kevin Pereira goes again, he fails Jumping Spider.
How many people passed I say s1=14 (usually one unknown is there, as well) s2=8 s3=2 final=0

Don't feel like following the format. Everyone thought in 20 the pole maze and other things would change, but they didn't. In 21 everyone thought the quintuple steps, swing ladder, and pole maze would be taken away, but they weren't. That's because no one was passing, they needed easy obstacles like those. Now that 9 people passed stage 1, there is no more need for those easy and stupid obstacles. I expect a new first obstacle, a new obstacle on stage 1, and a new obstacle on stage 2. Probably replacing the swing ladder, but who knows, only 3 passed stage 2 last time so maybe we'll only see a time change. I expect minimal differences in stage 2 and next to nothing in stage 3. I suspect Nagano to fail earlier on and Takeda to reach final stage. (More of a hope than anything, man now THAT would be something, Takeda, only all-star to never reach the final stage is the 1st to make it to the new one... that'd be tight) Shingo finally overcomes his bad luck and passes stage 1 with another close stage 1 call. Yamada makes it up the warped wall. Bunpei makes stage 3. Nagano fails early on. Shunsuke returns. I'm not going by gut instincts, because that's BORING. Everyones predictions gotta be the same, ya know? "Nagano gets final stage, Yamada fails early again, shingo fails stage 1 again, blah blah blah". Totally lame I say Kenji Takahashi times out on stage 1 after a valiant effort. Washimi times out on wall lift. Kawahara can't make it up the warped wall. Akiyama makes it to stage 3!!! =D Nagasaki returns, but gets his arse kicked after being gone so long as the course changed so much he doesn't know what he's doing.

^ There's a general prediction thread already. And I'm not sure how much the course has changed in Nagasaki's absence other than getting easier, and he doesn't seem particularly fazed by new challenges (see: Salmon Ladder).

I'd love to see takeda get to stage 4 alone he deserves his moment to shine, Just being realistic and see it more likely being Nagano to be the first to reach the shin-final stage . I'd love a suprise though!

With the Pipe Slider gone I think Takeda can make it to the Final Stage. The only reason he failed Stage 3 all the time was because he couldn't do the Pipe Slider jump, now that its a low friction ring with a notch he can make it.

Surely that's not the only reason Takeda kept on failing. IIRC, he only failed there in 8, 12, and 17. The other times he didn't have enough stamina (like 15) or his shoulder was bothering him (like 13, 14, 16, etc. etc.)

Yeah, we always forget that some of these guys carry injuries with them year after year. Takeda and Yamamoto both have shoulder injuries that they've never been able to shake off. Still they have both (moreso Takeda) done quite well under the circumstances.

Also, I think Takeda looked his best he's ever been in Sasuke 21. The only other tournament to compare it to would be Sasuke 17 where he made it to the Pipe Slider. He looked like he still had a lot of energy left, as evidenced by how long he hung from the Hang Climbing, so I definitely think he can make it far.
